He guessed it would be over 3 million in the third quarter results, and for all we knew, it was still in the 2.9 million range until Kishimoto specifically told us that it had hit 3 million. 2.9 is close to 3, but it's not 3.

He is talking specifically about his guess specifically

Also worth mentioning that the 2.5M figure we got in 12th December, the 2.9M is at the end of December, so assuming the 2.5M is close to its announcement, that means additional 400K in close to 2-3 weeks

it still blows my mind that Flowing made it onto drum & bass channels, and anecdotally every time I dropped one of the boss themes in my server's music swaps, I had otherwise uninterested people going "holy shit I need to get this game". I totally agree with this.

I got interested in Frontiers partly because of the music. I hum Undefeatable in the shower sometimes.

Idk if intentional or not but it reminds me a lot of that stupid moon thing Zazz rides in Lost World

  10. So despite me saying that the game doesn't look like it's for me, I saw it was on sale last night and picked it up. I promised myself that if I don't like it I'd just move on - I was already going into something I might not like, so if it isn't for me then that's no skin off of my teeth.

The opening tutorial was a little long before the game would let me save, but I kept playing afterwards. The movement was a little slow, but after I upgraded my speed to around level 4 or 5 it felt better. The story feels like some weird bad fanfiction so far, but this series has never been known for its amazing writing. That being said, the more I played the more I liked the game! I was several hours in when I set it down last night, and I'm looking forward to playing more tonight!

The game definitely doesn't put its best foot forward, but honestly? I'm loving it now that I'm past the intro jank. I'm glad I gave this game a chance, I'm having fun! Is it the be-all end-all of what I want from a Sonic game? Nah, not at all. I gave up on that a looooong time ago. Is it a fun and entertaining experience? Absolutely!

  11. If you didn’t know, getting max rings gives you access to Sonic’s top speed without needing to upgrade. So you can just cyloop until you pick them up.

My only issue is that I don’t like the blue boost aura at max speed compared to the colorless one you have at level 98 and below, but whatcha gonna do.

Edit: Went back to Frontiers this weekend to dick around a bit and noticed that Sonic’s attack string can change its finisher depending on the direction you hold the analogue stick. No input seems to do the double foot kick, holding forward seems to do an uppercut kick thing, and other directions do a sideways spinning kick. I’d need to play with it some more because it can seem inconsistent, but that’s what it looks like to me. I don’t know if it has any impact on damage or how it affects the enemies, but it’s interesting. I think it’s probably leftover from when the combat was a bit more demanding.

Speed upgrades don't actually upgrade Sonic's running speed at all, apparently. I've not tested it myself, but a lot of sources say that it only increases the speed at which Sonic climbs. When his speed is maxed out, he looks pretty awkward climbing surfaces because he moves his arms so quickly.

  13. This isn’t true. Idk how to even argue against it because it’s just blatantly false. Max ring running speed is the same as upgrading to 99 and you feel the difference immediately, and it’s huge. Idk about the climbing stuff, but I assume it does make a difference there. It impacts drop dash speed as well.

Edit: I thought @Blue Blood was referring to boosted running. It didn’t even occur to me that he was talking about just moving around lol. I also don’t think non-boosted changes.

When you reach lv99, you'll permanently unlock the "blue aura" speed that you would previously only have when you have the maximum number of rings you can carry.

But whether or not Sonic's standard running speed speed actually increases at all between lv1 and lv98 I can't actually say.

  15. It does. I actually debated staying at 98 because the speed was more or less the same as 99 but it lacked the aura.

The Speed stat does not impact Sonic's base running top speed from what I can gather. It affects his boosting top speed and his climbing speed.

If only the speed stat affected cyber space...

  18. Oh, if that’s what was being referred to by @Blue Blood, my mistake. I see the boost in Frontiers more like Lost World’s run button. So to me, running here = boosting.

I can’t go check to be see but yeah, I don’t think it changes based on your level.

  19. That would be an improvement.

  20. You know, I wonder if Sonic Team holds true to their plan that Frontiers is gonna be the foundation for the next handful of games to be iterated on, if they would try to include the “Cyber Space” or “Action Stages” in the actual open-zone.

Instead of portals or loading zones or whatever, it’s just there. Kind of like if in SA1 you just run into the beach or the casino and boom- level begins.

That could end up solving the issue with the controls (assuming they keep all the options and sliders)- of course if the actual level designs are still blocky and uninspired, it might not be that big of an improvement.

I definitely don’t think the switch could handle something like that, but by then I would imagine Nintendo’s successor would be a lot more powerful. Or maybe not. It is Nintendo after all.
