My pick is something that absolutely no one cares about, sonic's drift in unleashed.
Think about it. Look at this image. Sonic goes ~200 miles per hour in unleashed, and he's pressing his hand to the ground, whether it be dirt or concrete, to round corners while still going as fast as he already is.
Shouldn't he be absolutely scorching his hand from the friction of this, especially on concrete?
This is a really pedantic detail that no one cares about, yet it's always stuck out to me.
What would you pick for something that really doesnt matter, buts still odd in sonic games?

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
"Miles Prower" and "Amy Rose" being a thing implies every character has an actual name and surname but they just go around using their species name like a bunch of 14 year old at a furry convention

The Sonic 1 logo is not centred properly

This, and the fact the 'Press Start' text doesn't appear is undeniable proof Sonic Team can't even get past the title screen without screwing something up

Sonic Team's website, sonicteam.com, is unsecure.

And, fun fact, the website is so simple it can be loaded on a Sega Dreamcast, personally tested this myself (it took minutes on end, but it managed).

Is there a reason for this? Is it related to overscan?

I've snooped around a bit for an answer, but I've never really found one, best bet I have is that it's simply a developer error.

I believe this mistake might've gone under the radar because it might've been less noticeable on CRT televisions.

  9. Could it be an adjustment made for the trademark symbol?

It isn't, even the trademark symbol is off by a few pixels.

Plain HTTP is not the massive security risk it's made out to be. If you're not logging into something or buying something, plain HTTP is just fine.

    Life.
So it seems that "The [Animal]" is sort of like a surname; it's just not as apparent outside Japanese.

All those introductions of "I'm Sonic The Hedgehog! But you can just call me Sonic for short!" that sound weird and redundant in English? In Japanese, they really are introducing themselves with their full proper name (of sorts) and in English too, so it's suddenly no wonder they cap it off with "…or just [first name]!"

It's like saying "I'm Martin J. Tubbins III, Esquire! But my friends call me Marty!"

Despite being included in official art, Sonic's sprites in the Genesis games seldom seem to have the gold buckles on Sonic's shoes.

Scanned from the back of the Sonic 1 guide book, which I no longer have, unfortunately. (Sold basically everything in my collection before moving to Japan.)

Why does Casinopolis have a shower room? What exactly was the reasoning behind putting public showers in an otherwise realistic depiction of a casino floor? Things like the giant pinball machines and their entry teleporters, and the arms that shake your rings loose in the vault are in line with the usual stylistic strangeness in Sonic, like loops on public highways, but the shower room is just bizarre. Was it just about Sonic having a place to get cleaned off after exiting the trash-filled basement? When I was a kid, it gave me the idea that casinos actually had showers, like you were supposed to use them to calm down after a particularly devastating loss.

The showers are there for the people that get punished and fall into the sewers.

Some of the pleasure quarters here in Japan, especially those left over from the bubble era, are "all-inclusive," with onsen/showers, massages, restaurants and bars, and, yes, gambling with slots/pachinko/game centers/etc all in one place. A good example of this is the Grand Chateau area of Kyobashi in Osaka, which I went to a few weeks ago (and more info about it here) to photograph the remaining neon signs and check out the game center, and there are others like it all over Japan.

My take on the Casinopolis showers is that the whole area is the "night life" district, with everything that comes with it.

It seems to be an oversight: the emblem and copyright text are both part of the same graphic.
    upload_2022-5-17_13-1-7.png
This graphic does not occupy the full screen, so it has to be offset horizontally to avoid appearing against the left side of the screen. The choice of horizontal offset simply centres the graphic, but because the emblem is not centred within said graphic, the emblem is not centred on the title screen either.

I can apparently recreate the exact formula the developer used to achieve this: the screen is 320 pixels wide, and the title screen logo and copyright text are 272 pixels wide. When determining how to horizontally offset the logo, the developer simply did (320-272)/2, which gives 24. However, the emblem only occupies 256 pixels, so the formula should have been (320-256)/2, which gives 32.

The Tokyo Toy Show prototype appears to lack the copyright text, so this borked centring may be a leftover from that.

In Sonic 2, the copyright text is not part of the emblem graphic, so this issue is avoided altogether.

  20. Let’s pretend I said copyright text instead of trademark :eng101:

I just double checked on Sonic Jam and it wasn’t fixed on there. I imagined it would have been since it’s a port but maybe they weren’t aware and just blindly converted that code over to the Saturn without paying attention.

It’s interesting that Space Channel 5 is listed on Sonic Team’s Dreamcast software library. I’m wondering if it’s because of Takashi Yuda being the director. It’s really weird because Sonic 3D isn’t there at all despite Sonic Team making the special stages and playing a bigger role in the Mega Drive version’s planning.
