I'd like an elaboration on that. Even Gerstmann who provided the softer statement is speaking indirectly and without specificity. Are there others who've given more details? Any that especially mention that it was shown to journos in particular -and a good number of them?

Other than that, i actually know someone i trust who knows a journalist who said the exact same thing -that people saw it behind the scenes and liked it-, even before jeff said that, so when i came across the jeff clip, it actually confirmed that more so i was a bit surprised that it was aligned up, i doubt they talk about the same people.

But of course this is not actual evidence and you only have to take my word for it, something i don't expect anyone to do, my word alone is not any better than any "fake leaks/4chan rumors" so i didn't bring it up in the first place and i thought it was irrelevant, but yeah, i personally have strong reasons to believe in it besides jeff clip alone -which is a strong enough evidence on it's own imo-

Would you mind elaborating on who this is referring to? I read several pages back but didn't see anything fitting this accusation, so I'm not sure how common these comments you are seeing are. I know I was critical of aspects I felt needed improvement, but I also said I think emulating BOTW would be a smart move and listed 2 reasons why. And also that I was relieved they are keeping the sci-fi themes, and listed why I was apprehensive based on previous rumors. So sorry if this wasn't directed at me, it's just confounding to me because my comments touched on botw and thought provoking criticism, but also positivity. They also garnered "likes/agreement", and were far from superficial, so I apologize if my anxiety is getting the better of me. Granted I'm definitely not in here as often as some but I'm not seeing these sentiments you characterized as persistent. Of course, I would agree with you if people are just being negative without adding any substance for discussion -that is a bit of a kill joy, but I think the converse is also true, that repetitive comments repeating the same positive sentiments aren't particularly constructive either.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
How about no. Next post not specifically about this game goes in the garbage where it belongs.

Gah. That's so funny, I could cry.

For what it's worth, I got together with my buds the other night, and it seems like everyone in my IRL circles (none of whom are *big* Sonic fans, though they will play the good ones sometimes) had a pretty apathetic reaction to the Frontiers reveal. It pretty much amounted to "lol it's just botw," leading to me interjecting with "YOU DON'T KNOW HOW RIGHT YOU ARE" and telling them about the leaked pitch, leading to a conversation of how lame it is that EVERYTHING has to be open world, and then swiftly moving on to talk about how hype the movie trailer was.

But let's keep in mind, things may have changed substantially since the pitch. Just because it was pitched as an obvious take on Breath of the Wild doesn't necessarily mean it'll end up being THAT exact. (Although yeah, if it really DOES have Sonic with amnesia, four Titans, a naturalistic open world with scattered ruins, etc... wow. Sonic's suffered years of overblown criticism that it was pandering too hard to Mario fans, and Sega has heard your concerns. Sonic will now pander too hard to ZELDA fans instead! :D)

The "what if?" I'm holding onto now is the cyberspace levels, especially given that all the leaks have compared them to Unleashed or Generations. If there are enough of them, and they can stand as replayable high-speed action stages, then the open world stuff can do pretty much whatever it wants to do and I'll happily put up with it. I saw someone speculate that maybe the reason the open world stuff looks so generic is so it'll contrast the more traditionally Sonic cyberspace stages, and that could be really cool! Such a concept reminds me of Sonic Adventure, where the more grounded adventure fields just made the fantastical action stages stand out all the more.

    [IMG][IMG]

But if the cyberspace levels are more akin to special stages, where they're all fairly same-y and straightforward, and you're just gonna go in there once to get an emerald... yeah. It's early days yet, but I can see this being a factor that makes or breaks the game for me.

I hope you're right that the cyber-space stages are aesthetically varied and interesting. It could/should be an excuse to go as absurd as they can imagine. My fear is that they will be like the BOTW shrines or the Sonic Simulator in Colors and all have a generic "vaporwave" look to them. Time will tell!

I hope the leaks were accurate in describing these "Cyberspace" stages as being like Unleashed/Generations.

if they end up being closer to Forces (boring level design, short level length, poor control) I would be a bit disappointed.

I feel like "Forces bad" is a bit of a meme at this point but it really did leave such a sour taste in my mouth to the point that I do not want any of that game's DNA to be present in Frontiers at all :/

I hope the "Cyberspace" stuff will not be another excuse to Tomoya Ohtani compose his EDM songs again. Don't get me wrong, I actually like his EDM songs, but I kinda wanted to hear his atmospheric songs again. Tho', I'm not even sure if he will be the soundtrack director for this game as well or even Jun Senoue. Getting a new soundtrack director would be also interesting, honestly.

Anyway, about the Cyberspace itself, I really hope it's not just Special Stage. So much can be done with that.

personally I'm hoping for some next level drum & bass lol. DnB in video games always goes so hard. it's always sounded like a pretty sick sound for Sonic in the past imho

I imagine the ambient music will be found in the overworld and the trailer is probably a good example of what we'll hear (even though that specific track will not be present in-game).

Also it's very cool that Tee Lopes is still getting to work on official stuff long after Mania!

I don't see how cyberspace could be just special stages if this game is supposed to be "big". Whatever objects they removed for the reveal trailer, I have a hard time believing it's going to be anything so significant as to roadblock you from reaching new areas for an entire game's length, so either there's more to cyberspace than meets the eye, there's a lot of cyberspace levels, or the game gives you more stuff to do outside of the main quest.

oh god you just reminded me of a fear I didn't even know I had, which is that I really hope the score isn't going to be solely orchestral work because it's """epic""". I actually really dislike the orchestral stuff for the games' cutscenes (Solaris Phase 2 aside), and if the OST is just that...I might cry ahahaha

Re: gameplay, I am very curious as to how they will solve certain problems with how Sonic would work in a large env like this. Such a style has been attempted by fan tech demos in the past and I've certainly spent many a daydream imagining how my "thinly disguised Crazy Taxi as Sonic" concept would play out.

Man, I really miss the DnB songs from Sonic 2006 and Unleashed, they were so good. In my opinion, SEGA could hire Falk to compose some songs for action stages (remind that he did some songs for Sonic Mania Plus on Encore Mode), his Sonic style gos hard when he do it:

It was confirmed right now right now that the voice in the trailer was Amy.

"Cindy [Robinson] as Amy... Amy's voice is actually what you've heard in the trailer. I know some people online were a little confused about that, but it's confirmed, from me, that's Amy".

The plot thickens. If that’s the case then what’s with the footsies of the information disappearing from official channels before now?

At any rate, Cindy Robinson returning is…well, I hope voice direction is better this time around but past a certain point I feel like there’s just nothing that can be done to warm me to her take on Amy.

  15. Does this mean that Amy is going to be Sonic's main ally for this game?

Personally, I would actually enjoy a vaporwave aesthetic, but only if it is varied, and not the same style in every zone. Normally, I prefer that zones have a "realistic" quality to them, in that they follow some sort of internal logic (for example, a contravention of this would be a zone made out of giant cakes and cookies, or in Sonic Mania, there is that huge gloved hand that shoots you from a revolver... it just doesn't make sense outside of the gimmick IMO). But if these zones exist in cyberspace, then a vaporwave aesthetic would not violate this premise, but embrace it. It would be sort of like the bonus stages in Mania, which I found cool. Realistically, if Sega is going to play on hauntology (which vaporwave is), we are more likely to see cyber-GHZ, and cyber-CPZ. I would hope Sega has the sense to not make each Zone the exact same aesthetic, as this was a common criticism of BOTW. Correcting past mistakes is an opportunity when following in BOTW's footsteps... but more assets require more money, and... Sega...

What official channels? Where Sonic's Japanese VA is concerned, it's probably a matter of yet-to-be officially publicized info being disclosed when it shouldn't be. That's the only actual pull-back that comes to mind. As a general matter of not outright revealing the character, they probably didn't want that to be known -and I'd be surprised if they did want it to be known now, especially considering how the voice is framed so mysteriously on the Japanese site.

Gonna have to watch the relevant section of this stream.

I feel vindicated. The voice sounds so much like Robinson's Amy.

I don't think so. It's probably the case that Sonic's allies have been separated from him somehow and are able to communicate with him as he tries to save them. Not sure if it was real leak or a fake leak that stuff something like that, but I'd be on it anyway. And Amy's give was probably chosen for this trailer for arbitrary reasons, like a softer female voice being more suited the trailer than anyone else's.

Here's the full quote with slight paraphrasing for readability:
There's also mention of Pollock returning as Eggman shortly after.

This. I'll try to give the English cast another fair shake when the game comes out, but I might end up switching to the Japanese voices pretty quickly.
