    Jack shit.
Trophies "leak" because people get the game early or people are testing out stuff on their personal accounts. Then scraper sites log that.

I just realized... what if, rather than the auto run Sonic CD styled Tank Controls, the special stages have full movement ala Sonic Jam/Adventure? That would be amazing.

Oh yeah, and their Shadow the Hedgehog Let's Play was just painful

If I remember correctly, I believe that Aaron and... Arin :V are actually pretty good buddies, which is why Aaron puts up with Arin's shit.

Can't wait for Arin to dump all over Mania. Because it was SO fun when he did it in 3&K. Dripping sarcasm.

Well, Arin's complaint that Sonic 'moves too smoothly' in the title screen animation of Mania is a good example of what to expect. :v:

Having not watched an episode of Grumps I'm going to assume (read: hope to god) that Arin 'plays up' his dislike of Sonic as part of his character.

Otherwise it seems kind of odd that Aaron would continue to publicly support someone who's essentially trying to put people off supporting the brand that you're trying to promote, if that makes sense.

Then again, I don't know anyone who really listens to Arin's opinions. His Ocarina of Time video (followed by the apology for said video) didn't do him any favours. I just hope people enjoy watching him slag off Sonic in the way I laugh at DSP playing any Metal Gear game.

If it weren't for the fact that a lot of people take Arin's word as gospel due to being a Game Grump and Egoraptor, I'd honestly say to really not give a hoot about him.

Scroll down the comments, in response to someone asking him about the animation.

"I kind of hated it... What was he even doing? He was just moving limbs everywhere with a ton of frames, very wonky imo"

Boils my piss every time. Literally complaining that it looks 'too good' more or less.

Stop looking to Game Grumps Sonic playthroughs for fair analysis and enjoyment from the players. You'll have better luck squeezing water from a stone.

If you want a group of people to have fun playing a Sonic game, Super Best Friends and OneyPlays are probably your best bets. Former really dug Freedom Planet, latter knows Taxman does good work.

Oh I'm not looking to them for fair Sonic praise, I'm just wondering why they're being thanked for continuously pissing on the franchise.

Like ya Vinny Vinesauce doesn't like Sonic either but at least acknowledges some of its merits and that people have reason to like it. Arin's just a cupcake eating dick.

Part of the time, Arin's not exactly wrong (ie Sonic 06, the hideous broken scripted sequences in Sonic Adventure), so it just fuels the mess of his criticizing parts of the Sonic series that don't warrant it.
Arin is one of the countless people that fell for the "Sonic is all about fast" meme and doesn't understand Sonic, and as with countless people, has a warped dissonant understanding of Sonic due to all the brand confusion caused by westernizations and marketing. I blame him for spouting uninformed opinions recklessly as an eceleb but I also find it hard to blame him because of how difficult it is for the layman to piece together a genuine understanding of the Sonic series. There's an example in that Oney Plays segment Jason just posted, in which Julian thought Sally Acorn appeared in Sonic CD and was then confused when he was told she did not appear in any of the games (and even that isn't true since Sally did make an appearance in Sonic Spinball which is just another point contributing to the tangle of many layers and branches of confusing information).
Once again I just can't express my bottomless gratitude for western localizers turning everything Sonic related they touched into cancer and being the progenitors of the irreparably shattered Sonic franchise. Where would we be without diehard satam fans and Archie comics and Ken Penders and Sonic Boom and Sonic is all about fast ergo Sonic was never good stigma and endless confusion.
I can hardly blame Sega for being so nervous about the west handling Sonic.

Any publicity is good publicity. Over exaggerating frustrations at Sonic is a pillar of the channel. Aaron probably saw an opportunity to go viral by fucking with a person who's never been all that keen on Sonic, and it's been mutually beneficial for exposure. Not to say it's purely ulterior motives, but going after Game Grumps was like one of the first things he did when he went back to Sega.

Oh some games suck sure, in fact most probably do. But SoJ doesn't have the best track record either. America might have muddled things up (which, to be fair America muddled up basically every Japanese franchise), but after Sonic 3K it's basically Japan's fault.

Then again Sonic's always been shallow (Hey look it's cool Mario). A shallow backstory makes sense for a shallpw character. The fact Sonic has succeeded despite basically being a marketing ploy is nothing short of a miracle.

There's more reasons to distrust Sega of Japan than just Sonic, simply ask any Phantasy Star fan (especially for Universe and Online 2, the former of which SoJ basically withheld updates and events from SoA and the latter temporarily went on a persecution binge against western players despite not bringing it over to the west simply because the western fans were already on it). Not to mention the whole Shining and Valkyria franchise debacles. But Sega of America has made up in their own ways such as the infamous launch of the Saturn that all but killed the system out of the gate over here.

Sega botched a lot of things with Sonic, but at this point, what they really botch now are specific, individual games, seeing as since Sonic '06 they've been absolutely paranoid about the brand image; Boom is the riskiest they were willing to be with that, and outside of RoL it's not exactly killed Sonic by any means. Besides that, it's been all the mainstream misconceptions stuck in people's heads, certain rabid parts of the fanbase that pull a vocal minority and make things worse for everyone, and cynical 20/30-something year olds feeling burned and jaded that have been contributing to the rot. Not to mention the fact that the moment anything ever happens, you've got a lot of even dedicated fans going 'ruined forever' and the Sonic Cycle still being shoved in people's faces liberally; just look at the Forces thread around the time of each and every other announcement since the initial gameplay reveal. Arin's a non-issue compared to the fans themselves, and most of the real fan shitstorms are isolated to the online seeing as casual audiences really don't care.

At this point Sonic Mania's pretty much the sole exception to that gigantic mess that's built up over the years.

You say that as if SoA had a choice. It was Bernie Stolar who really killed the Saturn in America.

Eh. I would hardly call that a miracle. Have you taken a look at Mario, Mega Man and other similar game characters from the time? Shallow characters were the norm back then. In fact, Sonic was downright nuanced compared to them, especially for the time :v:

But yeah, Sonic having a backstory is an awful idea.

    Who was part of SoA.

And that was preceded by Sega of Japan not telling Sega of America about the Saturn, so SoA made the 32X and then abandoned it in short time while screwing over all the people that had thought it was going to be big in any capacity. Then they hired the then-recently-fired-from-Sony Bernie.

Really, it's like a game of tug-of-war where it's almost like they keep trying to one-up the other about terrible decisions made over the years.

  19. He definitely does, he's even outright said that he does a couple of times. He genuinely doesn't seem to like any of the games, though.

He actually said that about Sonic 3 & Knuckles, of all things. That was a miserable LP to watch, since Dan wasn't there. On the other hand, their Sonic Adventure series is probably my favourite LP of all time, believe it or not.

The reason I'm in favour of the Grumps doing a Sonic Mania LP is that I can already see Dan responding to every pointless complaint Arin has with "Arin, what the fuck are you talking about, this is amazing".

  20. ^The verdict's not out on that claim yet, but yeah, if we're talking the Let's Play channel with the biggest audience on YouTube, if a few million people come to watch them bitch about trivial shit, chances are a good 50,000 casual fans would get curious and try the game out themselves, right?
