Sonic Social Media Shenanigans (This totally just happened...)

I loved the SB comic. But I'd prefer not crossing the streams. Even though the cartoon has gotten solid reception, Sonic Boom is still considered poison. Even if it wasn't, I would rather strong lines between series in the franchise. For instance? I'm glad the Babylon Rogues never made it into a core series title.

 

The bigger problem with Boom Sonic would be with how they'd handle the gameplay of his sections of the game. "Generic 3D platformer" bits would probably ruin the game.

 

Correction: Generic Platform Metroidvania.
My wish is to see what they improve on in Fire/ice. not forcing you to get everything would be nice.

 

They did notice that criticism and are changing that according to interviews. Level design is now less Metroidvania and more linear with extra places you can go to, which is where the collectables are. Also all collectables are now optional. So you can either just focus on finishing the levels or getting collectables and unlocking extra stuff.

So while on the surface it looks like more of the same from Shattered Crystal, with it using the same engine and stuff, they are changing the level design quite a bit. That being said, the problem with Shattered Crystal was more lack of variety. If you've played the demo then you've pretty much played the entire game cause the rest of it is pretty much just more of the same but in different environments.

Not that the people at Sanzaru can't think of different things to put into the game. Their Sly Cooper game is much better than Sly 2 and 3 cause each level uses different fun mechanics/gimmicks. They could probably add as much variety in Fire & Ice if they have the time to do so. Still going to wait and see though cause it's kinda hard to be optimistic after having played through the terrible Shattered Crystal.

No problem with doing different gameplay styles for Sonic, as long as it's done well. Sonic Boom, well, wasn't. And it certainly wouldn't fit in with the fast paced Classic and Modern Sonic bits.

Also I don't think I've ever said that turning Sonic into a generic 3D platformer would be a good thing. Or at least didn't use the word generic, cause I don't really use that word when describing something positive.

 

That's quite unfair, I think, as the first post of youtubegaming twitter wasn't meant to be mean.
