The BPMs in Alternate Carnival Nights Zone felt a bit slower than the original, although I'm loving Alternate Ice Cap Zone a lot, personally. It's kinda tempting to plop them into Freedom Planet's music folder, as an occasional alternative to Battle Glacier. (Then again, I think everything you make could fit in FP like a glove; you have a unique signature in your music that all musicians need to stand out.)

I've added a new Press Coverage section to the site (and a link to Stealth's Blog post).

I notice a lot of websites have been covering Sonic Runners, so I've been emailing the authors of the article directly to tell them about the campaign.

It would be good if the livestream could still go ahead (I'm sure there'll be more activity on it over the weekend when everyone has more time). The petition seems to have flatlined, so something like the livestream another push to encourage more sign ups. Having the petition stopping at 2.5K could send out the message that there isn't actually enough demand for the remaster.

Here's something interesting I found: Back in January, Sega licensed a dance remix of the Mega Drive Sonic music. Among the remixed tracks is Ice Cap Zone. One would assume that would be a no-no, given the legal troubles, but the press release by Sega actually explicitly mentions the stage. Ice Cap is the only MJ-track on the album (and it's combined with Chemical Plant and Aquatic Ruin). I've not actually listened to the music, so it could be that it changes it enough to avoid any comparisons to the original.

Maybe it's okay because it's fanmade? I haven't heard it either, though, so I can't say.

I thought Ice Cap was in the clear because it was confirmed to be a The Jetzons b-side that Brad Buxer recycled. Even if he was working on Sonic 3 under contract by MJ, MJ had no rights to the song, so I doubt Ice Cap has any legal hangups anymore.

Alright, just to prevent people from doing this: don't spam about this in SEGA's charity stream going on right now. It's off-topic and just probably just as annoying as people who reply to whatever SEGA tweets about how Shenmue needs a sequel.

What handsome rogue would have attempted to do such a thing?

+ - It was one post telling people in the chat, likely Sega fans, about the campaign and website, after telling them to donate to the charity the stream was promoting first. Hardly spamming.

You're not the only one who might have the idea of advertising it in the chat though. Multiple people going in there just to talk about this hot new Sonic 3 Remastered campaign could make things messy, and make discussion in the chat about the campaign rather than SEGA's charity stream.

Not to mention it might put SEGA off the idea entirely if it just begins to hijack other events. Pushing for something tends to cause resistance.

  10. Not only that, a Twitch chat isn't the best place to do something like this in general unless it's focused on the actual topic. Anyone trying to shove the campaign into that is wasting there time. I hope no one has, as doing so would undermine this.

I really don't think Sega would be so vindictive about a tangent of fan enthusiasm, especially prefacing such promotion with support for their charity drive. Oh well. What's done is done.

Regardless, it's not very good practice. For a campaign that's been handled as professionally as possible, that sort of push makes it seem no different to every Sonic Adventure 3 or Shenmue 3 petition. It looks bad to SEGA and to the fans who you hope would sign. It's important that people know this campaign is different and that it's better. There's a good few reasons why some big name sites have picked up.

Anyhoo - 40 signatures until we reach 2500.

Totally agree with Blue Blood. We need to show SEGA this is a serious campaign. Fans trying to promote this through a live-stream is not a good idea because it would never be taken seriously and could be seen as pestering or trolling. The last thing we want is for SEGA to be more against re-releasing Sonic 3&K. Although it's good to see fans enthusiastic about the campaign.

The petition has now reached 2,500 supporters. I'd imagine an ideal target would be for the petition to reach at least 10,000 supporters?

If you want to guarantee enough single sales per signature with an assumed sale price of $2.99 for them just to break even on total development and launch cost (including programming and assets integration/creation, the QA process, localization, promotion, distribution, etc), try multiplying that by at least 9

  15. So, if I understood that correctly, you're saying that the best target for the petition is to reach around 100,000 supporters, is that right?

If you can build up momentum without crashing streams and such, then I'm sure you could manage it. What happened to that stream idea? I'd recommend getting somecallmeJohnny to host that or at least put up a youtube video about it since he has a large fanbase.

  17. Oh yeah, right. I was going to remind everyone about that actually. Someone should ask the BrainScratch crew and maybe the HFC as well if they can do this.

As bigsmile and 360 have said before, the petition hitting a major news site would draw in a lot more signatures. (Not that smaller news sites aren't contributing as well. 2,500 signatures is an encouraging number.) I think it's only a matter of time before somebody picks it up, so can't let the campaign slow down in the meantime.

A thousand times this. 100K might seem like an out of reach number but my Shenmue 3 petition from 2003 hit 70K in two weeks. All that happened was major news sites covered the petition and the story spread like fire causing a rapid spike in signatures. We're still yet to be covered by a major gaming news site and this is our primary weakness. I've been off the radar for a while because my Internet got cut out but I've finally been paid and was thus able to restore it (hence me posting now). I am therefore able to contribute to the campaign again so potentially tomorrow and then throughout the beginning of next week I'll return to assisting Big Smile again and apply energy and effort into getting us covered by the major news sites. I have some ideas (like asking editors on NeoGAF for help) so I'm confident I can make some progress.

I'll be hitting this hard since I'm determined for this campaign to have an impact. As Stealth said we need those signatures to spike so that will be my focus from tomorrow.

  20. So I just had this small conversation with Mike Pollock:

I'll see what other avenues I can pursue.
