When I was making pages x months ago for this, I couldn't find evidence that "Alien Front Online" arcade cabinets existed. "Regular" Alien Front ones do and I have no idea if those have online play, but I get the impression the networked variant was cancelled for whatever reason.

If it did arrive in winter 2000, that's at least a nine month gap between the arcade and Dreamcast versions... and I don't know if the idea would have been viable in late 2001.

Well that makes sense. I was only looking into it because an Alien Front (sans online) rom cart popped up on ebay recently and I was wondering whether I should get it. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with standard digital jamma controls, so until I build a jvs analog controller there was not much sense in me getting it. I might try and run it via my CF drive and see if it works (one of these days when I find the time).

Someone should build and sell a JVS compliant analog control pad, I'd buy two.

I wrote a program back in 2006 which could extract the PCM waveforms from Night Trap/Double Switch videos files and create bit-for-bit copies.

This is from the 3DO version; it's the best quality available outside of the unobtainable studio recording -- it's a few seconds longer than the lower frequency SEGA copy:

I don't have the FLAC anymore, but the difference is negligible.

    For your delectation:

this auction has ended and there's only a handful of scans provided but there's still some... uh... gems. Basically it's a Sega-sponsored Tiger Electronics catelogue from 1995/1996, which for some reason lists a bazillion devices which weren't actually released. Well done lads.

Lots of freakishly weird tat. Observe the horrors of the "Wrist Com", Sega branding slapped crappy bits of plastic... and even an unreleased Sonic the Hedgehog game!

When scanning 150-odd page black & white manuals for the wiki, is it better to have?

300 dpi images with high jpeg compression (95)

    or

600 dpi images with low jpeg compression (say 50)

    before converting to pdf?

When you say high compression, do you actually mean low compression (I.e. it is compressed less and is therefore less lossy)? :v:

The settings you've had for things scanned so far have been good - if you're running into file upload limits or something like that I'm sure you can encourage an admin to force it through.

er yeah, that's what I meant.

Yeah, it's to get around the upload limits, but also it seems like overkill for a manual that is mostly white with black text. It's like I'm preserving the individual discolorations of each fibre in the paper.

Those could be important. We may be able to track down the source of that paper if you preserve that information.

Forgive my ignorance in the matter.

A US Sega 32x to Genesis Model 2 cable would work on their european counterparts?

    Thanks.

Yes, all Genesis / Mega Drive video cables are region-free.

...with the exception of two things:
    • RF modulators (MD2) - different TV standards require a different modulator. MD1 RF switches are identical worldwide (except maybe for the connector), since they merely switch between inputs; the actual RF modulator is in the console.
    • Japanese "SCART" cables - while they use the same connector as SCART, they have a different pinout.

Does anyone know if the WKK remote control system receivers are compatible with the official wireless pads for the Mega Drive? I like that the receiver has a wire, as it'll allow for greater flexibility, but I don't want to buy one if my wireless pads won't work. Usually I'd just take the punt, but I just bought a guitar XD

Just a question, can a UK sega original power supply have 220 Volts as Input without causing any problems?

220 is a bit of an odd voltage.... but seeing as they were designed for 240V and the UK now uses the EU-standard 230V, I guess it'd be OK? Can't say 100% for sure.

Oh I thought it was 110-120 V in the UK, in this case I'm happy to be wrong.

My numbers are a bit outdated, 220 was what it used to be in the old days, sorry, might be 230 V around here now too if it's a EU-standart now

    Thanks for your help.
