3DS version looks slightly more fun, but absolutely nothing about Sonic Boom is exciting me. Well, the Sea Fox being in the 3DS version is a really cool throwback, and I kind of wish we saw more references like that. But yeah. If they wanted to do something new for the kiddies, they should have relaunched SatAM. At least a fifth of the adult Sonic fanbase would ALSO like it. XD
It's like they really want you to remember that the characters have voices outside of the cutscenes. It sounds like they have more cues for quotes than Gex 64, albeit not quite as repetitive. We need a comilation video of how talkative the characters have gotten since the days of Sonic Adventure to properly assess the situation. The "Rings! Om nom nom nom!" line has to be some sort of attempt to wipe the memory of "GET A LOAD OF THIS!" from long-time fans. I mean, surely we haven't devolved to this point where this counts as humour. Also, that friendly robot with Sonic and Amy before that chase segment looks like a reject from a game two console generations ago. And what was with the delivery of some of those lines, such as the "Good job, now keep chucking robots at this boss."? How about I just let this monstrosity continue to dry-hump a giant effing hole into the ground if you're not going to take the effort to not sound bored by this endeavour? I don't know. I guess I'm just old-fashioned and I don't appreciate a character stating the obvious when it comes to a boss's weakness.
You guys have pretty valid reasonings. I read through all of it, and I honestly have nothing more to add; my opinion is a concatenation of all comments made here so far. Where are Retro artists when we need them? :v: Quick, come up with badge arts, please!
So I guess I'm Team Indifferent Member #7, then? Do I win something :v: To be honest, I don't think the game looks bad, per se, but it's definitely not very... Sonic-like. Saying that, it does remind me of PS2-era platformers like Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank, which were a huge part of my childhood, so... I dunno. Taking a standard "wait-and-see" approach, I guess. (To clarify I'm talking about just the Wii U version, I haven't bothered looking into the 3DS version yet)
Still not impressed... And for the record, I liked Generations and wanted more because it was the first 3D Sonic game to ever truly grasp the concept of multi-layered stages in 3D, similar to what we saw in the genesis titles. That's what I want more of, not BOOSTTILYOUDROP gameplay. It just so happened to work reasonably well with unleashed's boost mechanics. They struck a fine balance for the first time since Adventure. The engine was also polished and the challenges well balanced. Lost Words botched this by creating rushed, frustrating, and poorly designed stages all over again. Pretty much the worst of the Colors stages amplified more heavily. This game, again, may be okay in the end... but so far it's like Sonic Labyrinth, or if I'm being generous, Sonic Battle. A wacky spinoff game I would play once and never again, at best. (And even then, I've played good spinoffs like Spinball countless times)
Wii U and 3DS E3 trailers are up: I guess the trailers made the games look a tiny bit better?
Yes, I came here just to say that. Those trailers definitely make the games look better. I need to see more recent footage in order to properly form an opinion, though, after seeing those trailers.
Well that confirms some stupid bullshit going on with past lives or the giant hedgehog statues seen when around the world. Game still looks like pants. Also those youtube comments. Jesus fucking christ. I forgot what kind of people populate the other aspects of the fandom. "This looks pretty bad. Buying it day one." YOU ARE THE PROBLEM
Buying it day one, *and* most likely going to hold a giveaway like with Sonic Lost World. Come at me bro.
Well the trailer was cut together nicely and has decent music. Can't really tell much about the gameplay from it though.
Its funny, you never really hear fans screaming "I want sonic Heroes 2!"... ...Yet here we are.... I never played Heroes so Ill probably just avoid this one too. Cant wait to see what Sega will offer after this game!
Fuck, the biggest issues with Heroes were that the second half of the game was rushed as fuck (so rather than level variety we get level length instead, bah) and the controls were glitchy. The first have of the game was really good and given a few more months to tighten controls could have been really good. It certainly felt more like a Sonic game to me than fuckin SA2. Hopefully things won't be quite as fixed to a single track as they look here, but then most of what I've seen so far looks like the intro level? That said, they really have to make the in-level dialogue a hell of a lot punchier if they're going to have that much of it. Most of it isn't very funny. EDIT: Except for that bit with Eggman. That's great.
The gameplay and dialogue resembles Heroes at a glance... The trailers and general idea of the game scream Chronicles to me... And upon first seeing the main baddie I thought "Didn't I not see that thing in Underground?" So, indifferent at best.
"No, Knuckles." Nice to see Roger Craig Smith actually playing the role with more emotion than a plank for a change. I hereby withdraw any and all reservations I had about this show. I'm only moderately excited for the game, but this cartoon looks pretty damn good. I laughed out loud a couple of times.
Good job, SoA.... It's sad that the TV show looks far more interesting than the games do. Actually want to see it.
