Isn't that where we got the UFO graphics from? I remember that it was actually a pretty good port, much better than the Sonic Genesis GBA mess.

IIRC one of the developers actually posted on this board about it once.

Well the obvious difference is hitting 2 monitors at the same time. jumping seems off, as does how Sonic interacts with slopes.

  5. Yup, I made some Sonic sprites for the 2600 (follow the link to AtariAge for more sprites) a while ago, and some of the sprites in this game appear to be based on them. LocalH is correct, I don't have anything to do with this particular game (I wasn't even aware it existed until this exact minute!), and I never really programmed anything meaningful of my version either. I imagined a very different implementation, where objects (player, missile and ball) would be used to draw smooth scrolling levels, but the way sprybug did it (level drawn with playfield pixels) worked surprisingly well, I must admit!

There's a java emulator I use to play this version but the music output is incorrect. Glad to hear what it actually sounds like now.

Sonic Adventure: plug some shoes dude edition. Something I came across accidentally

This was a competition done by Sega Europe from the 1st December 1999 to the 14th January 2000. Your task... run around Emerald Coast finding shoes, then get to the end - times are sent to global leaderboards, winners get leet prizes. It's one of those dead downloadable things which I'm not sure has been preserved.

    There were lots of prizes:
1st place got you £1000 and a "Sonic Champion Dreamcast Pod"... which I think is meant to be one of those display kiosks, but personalised

2nd, 3rd and 4th got you £250 of Reebok stuff, plus a gold Sonic disc in a glass frame

5-10th got you a pair of trainers and a framed certificate

    11-50th got you a T-shirt

Source is the UK Official Dreamcast Magazine. We could really do with some proper scans of that thing.

and if you want to pretend you're a winner, you can still buy Reebok DMXes. We live in a world where a pair of shoes costs more than a Dreamcast console.

In the process of scanning higher resolution scans of some manuals and noticed the image here from the Sonic 1 Game Gear manual seems to indicate that there was a debug mode similar to the mega drive debug mode, but I've never come across a code to activate it.

Top right, floating ring of debug mode?

EDIT: Actually, looking at it again, I think it's just a frame of the shield power-up. Nevermind.

Complete coincidence I'm sure, but doesn't this character from Pokémon X and Y look familiar? http://www.serebii.net/xy/az.shtml

I was thinking Ix from Chronicles.

But like with Bark, probably unrelated.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
There's two versions of the Sonic Riders intro music, but I've only been able to find one. I know this because I followed coverage of the game diligently prior to it's release, and noticed immediately that the intro song sounded a little different during an IGN video. I could only find one or two examples of the original version on Youtube back then, and I can't find them now.

Supposedly the following codes add gouraud shading to the GC version of SADX:
    Code (Text):
    1. UBG1-CVU8-ETWUV
    2. F13R-GF93-NDCFY
I lack a GameCube and thus have no way of really testing the accuracy of this claim, and I don't think the fact that it doesn't seem to work quite right in Dolphin is evidence that it doesn't work with actual hardware.

Can anyone with a GC and game copy test this code out? I'd like to see if it actually works. Ideally footage of Sky Deck or parts of the Egg Carrier would be best, as those were the parts of the DC version that used it the most.

    Staying sane.
If I remember correctly, my EU copy of AR MAX had this code and this is going back to about 2005. I never really activated more than once of twice. Being the ignorant 11 year old that I was thought that it was dumb and never used it again. I'm unsure what exactly it was again but I'm certain it just screwed around with certain textures and stuff. I had a code from a long forgotten site that had PAL AR codes which screwed up Sonic's textures and colours.

It was also from that site that I found codes to get in the test level for SA2 and the character swap codes.

I'm sorry that I can't prove all of this, all of my Nintendo stuff is at my father's at the moment and is a bit awkward considering we've had a big falling out. anyway, I'm 95% sure there was a goraud shading code. I'll have to go round and investigate for myself all of this when he's out at work one day.

Okay, perhaps that wasn't very helpful but it was more of a personal recollection. Hopefully, I'm right about this it's just been so long since I used my AR or even my GameCube.

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
If they had gouraud shading working correctly, why would they take out the feature?

FYI: The Ocarina code equivalent is:
    Code (Text):
    1. 038C294B 18000000
    2. 04794854 C08001CE
GCNcrypt says this code is PAL-region, so I don't know if it'll work on US copies of SADX.
