    Staying sane.
The way you play it is by putting 10 pence and wherever the coin lands is the amount of tickets you win.

Saw that earlier. Splash Hill again, was the theme music. Why don't they use the Sonic 1 Title Screen music already (either the Generations version or some orchestral mix)?

Splash Hill loops much more easily* so they can vamp it over announcer dialog.

*Does anything loop easier than Splash HIll?

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Or maybe they're trying really hard to angle Episode 1 as the Sonic 1 of this generation.

I don't know if it's the source or not, but that image is on the Sonc and Knuckles Collection CD. It's a rather large bitmap titled "omake".

I do believe that was on the box art for the collection in Japan.

I was looking into Maria's fictional condition, NIDS.
Supposedly a year after SA2 was released, symptoms of what would later be referred to as a NIDS began to appear. This "real NIDS" is not said to be terminal, though.

The new NIDS camp use the term to give name to the bizarre 57% increase of children being diagnosed with Autism/ADD/ADHD/OCD and whatnot around 2002, and has since grown to an 80% increase according to their studies. They believe these children actually do not have Autism, that the problem is actually caused by a virus or something that mucks up the brains of infants, and that roughly one out of a hundred babies born may have contracted it.
How concrete or accurate any of this is, I'm not sure.

The acronyms of the two syndromes mean slightly different things, though.

The rl one is Nero Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.
Maria's condition was Nero Immune Deficiency Syndrome, keeping in line with the AIDS parallel.

Well it's not the first time Sonic has inspired a real life medical thingie..remember sonic the hedgehog gene?

Although this one is a bit creepy...viruses that causes autism?

I mainly got this stuff from their website.
Pretty concerning if their predictions are accurate since it contradicts what we know about Autism. Again nothing seems to be concrete, something to keep an eye on as research continues I guess.

Before I'm convinced that there's even an epidemic (and therefore a problem to address) they need to show that the increase isn't due to an increase in diagnoses, which could be due to a) a change in the medical classification of what qualifies as an ASD, or b) cultural changes which make ASDs more noticeable (rise of internet, etc).

I didn't see much to disprove that this is the case other than the “evidence of a virus claim” quote somewhere and doctors saying that the change was “too abrupt to be normal”. It's interesting, maybe this fabled disease will be identified or maybe it is just another wild goose chase, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

I just find it strange to have a fictional disease that accidently shares a name with something a group of people now claim plague a decent chunk of the population.

Yeah it's pretty much bullshit. There is so much autism-related crankery on the web; you'd be surprised. At least they're not recommending heavy-metal detoxification treatments from what I can tell.
