Let's just say the source was Ken, in which case, the in-game reason for getting all the emeralds again would be.. to play as Super Sonic. :v:
Wasn't the whole ~canon explanation~ for needing to recollect the Emeralds that they disperse after some form of use? So, Sonic runs around blowing shit up as Super Sonic in Episode 1, then they disperse and Sonic and Tails have to go grab them in Episode 2.
Essentially the reason is that if you had all the emeralds at the beginning of the game, it would suck, be too easy and there'd be no reason for the special stages. And before anyone says lol but hyper sawnik, where would a potential Episode 3 go? Super Mega Death Christ 2000 Sonic?
I beat the game, but I didn't get all the Chaos Emeralds. Odd how they have a screen saying "Try Again" with Eggmans monitor thing, but no reward for actually getting the emeralds, besides Super Sonic.
I tried to win this game from the SEGA Twitter, but didn't win. Sad times. Guess I'll have to wait a while to play it legitimately. EDIT: Tried again... ...failed again
Nice. I don't suppose Ken got back to you, did he? Also, does anyone know who the hell Xeen Software is? They're featured quite prominently in the credits as having created practically all of the art for E2, in contrast to E1's art which was all done by Dimps themselves. I can't find any info on them however.
Did Sonic Generations and Unleashed have random voice clips too? I'd like to hear those as well... -which reminds me...was there ever a Sonic 2006 megathread? It would be interesting to see how the complaints have changed over the years.
You know what I really love about Sonic 4: Episode II? One: Sylvania Castle Boss Spoiler I love how they show you the pillars from Aquatic Ruins Zone from Sonic 2 right before the Boss smashes them. I love how they deliberately show you something with huge nostalgia value, due to it being a game based on nostalgia, and then they smash it to show you this no nostalgia value Boss. They sure got me good. Two: White Park Act 2 Music Spoiler I love how they threw in a bit of Sonic Adventure's Pleasure Castle (Twinkle Park) music from about 36 seconds untill about 48 seconds. That hit me in the head like snowball in January. It had huge nostalgia value to it that brought back memories. Three: Episode Metal Spoiler I love that Metal Sonic isn't slow like I thought he would be! Four: SEGA Finally Got Nostalgia Right Do I really need to recap what I've said? Do you really want me to ramble on for 10 minutes per Zone just about nostalgia? You've got nostalgia everywhere! And it isn't half-assed like Episode I's nostalgia was. EDIT: Five: Sky Fortress Act 2 Music 'Nuff said.
Bitter-sweet. I glad to see Sonic games sell, but at the same time I don't want E2 to do particularly well.
A word of warning to you all whilst we're on about the iProducts. Sonic 4 Episode II does NOT currently work with 2nd Generation iPod Touches. It states it does but it seems to have not been fully tested. Therefore, until a patch is created, I urge anyone in this position to hold off purchasing until it is. At least, I'm speculating it will be, because every other Sonic game works like a charm on it. Secondly, how did everyone find this game in terms of difficulty? Took me four hours from start to finish to get every red ring and Chaos Emerald. Didn't even see any level past the Oil Zone as normal Sonic. Found the last Emerald level a challenge though, luckily there's a restart button.
Same over here in the UK. As of this post, Episode II is only #35 on the Top Paid charts. However it's #25 on the Top Grossing charts.
