Sonic CD was released on the PC in 1996. Nearly three years after the consoles!

a couple of months doesn't count as "so much later". I had to wait six months before Super Smash Bros. Brawl got from the US to the UK - absolutely no changes were made that actually affected me, but I had the entire game spoiled to the point where it was almost pointless to actually buy it. That was in 2008 - Super Mario Bros. 3 took three years to get from Japan to here. Imagine if I had cared.

I think they're logic is that they simply don't care. It's Sega. When have they showed much initiative for Sonic games on the PC? Sure we've got some games eventually, and Sonic Generations came out 4 days after, but they're probably thinking you've had the chance to get it on everything else (pretty much) so whatever it'll come out eventually.

I don't know jackshit about the iOS so yeah...

If that ain't the reason then the only ones that knows this are the people that don't want us to know at the moment.

  4. The PC version is probably taking so long because they're replacing the hidden angel statue with the Dopefish.

Actually Sonic CD is in the Steam registry, but both Sonic CD and the Generations Casino Night DLC are still only listed as Valve Test Apps.

Well, then point rescinded for the Steam comment. I still refuse to believe piracy is the reason. I can't imagine the Retro Engine having compatibility problems with its original platform, so that still leaves either some internal issues at Sega or issues between Sega and Valve. I'm going to go with the former.

Maybe the PC version is incorporating all those bugfixes from the other thread, and they are waiting so they can also release an hypotetic patch for the console version at the same time.

There's something I wonder about the copyright issues with the lyrics. If Sega had someone else, say TJ Davis, to do covers for the intro and ending theme, could they have still included the lyrics?

    Beats me.
I find it odd that they apparently had the copyright issue with the lyrics for You Can Do Anything when you can go download the song off of iTunes from SEGA, so they obviously have some rights to it. I don't get what the deal with this game is entirely. Oh well, I plan on getting the steam version and I'll be able to change it manually.

The best I can tell you is licensing agreements are a very strange things. Look at what happened with the U.S. Soundtrack's inclusion.

For the record, I tried running the Android port with Bluestacks thinking this could be the next best thing to a native PC release, but it seems that Android build is ARM specific, it won't run on x86.

hmm... an interesting idea - have you tried it with an android emulator ?

The emulator in the Android SDK is waaaaay too slow for gaming. It's barely even usable for regular GUI stuff.

At least, that's the way it worked last I used it.

Well... I don't mean this to come off as a whining, but I've officially lost all excitement I once had for this game. Sega really, really screwed this one up. It's a damn shame, because I was all set to spend money a game I already own. Twice.

It's been a month. There is no justifiable reason for not having released the Steam version yet. This isn't a widely-anticipated brand new title, it's a reissue of a 1993 game most of us have already played, no matter how many layers of delicious sugar you coat it in. The multiplatform release is evidently meant for maximizing its success. By delaying one of the platforms, they've made it miss the hype train and effectively sentenced its failure.

Or have they? I know a lot of you are still going to buy it day one. Or day thirty- or forty-something, depending on how you look at it. But that's okay, I've grown used to the idea that Sega can do whatever they want and Sonic fans will eat it up.

Well, if it's any consolation, I'm waiting for the windows phone version, with absolutely NO word on when it's coming out (some people believe it will be later than February)

Delta - would you happen to know if the host machine's hardware affects the Android SDK at all? I was hoping my beasty rig would see better performance than I'm getting :(

Wow...umm...what side of the bed did you roll out of today?

Allot of us bought this game to support The Taxman. y'know the creator of this remake-port and good friend here at Retro?! he made this port possible and it was pretty awesome for SEGA to hire a fan to do something official. Also, it was $5 out of the gate for all platforms ($2 for idevice users first 4-5 days) which is a killer deal for any game.

Those 2 reasons alone is why were all gun-ho for this remake-port. if it was just the standard 1993 final I'm sure there wouldn't even be half of these pages.

Sorry your bent out of shape over the Steam release but I'm sure theres a good reason. its not canceled thats for sure although it is worrysome why it is taking soo long.

EDIT: I didn't mean to come off as rude but it looks like it. basically all I'm saying is chill, a PC release will happen soon. til' then I'm sure theres other platforms you have that can play Sonic CD 2011.

I'm awaiting for Google to allow app gifting in the Android Market. Meh.
