It's Microsoft's whole "it's being releases on PSN as well? Well then either we release it before PSN, or we don't release it at all," thing.

"SEGA has finally announced when we can expect Sonic CD to hit digital platforms. As it turns out, it will be released for most platforms tomorrow for only five bucks."

    Let's see...

Xbox 360 - comes out tomorrow.
    iOS - comes out tomorrow.
PS3 - comes out tomorrow, but not in the USA.
    Android - delayed.
    Windows Phone 7 - delayed.
    PC - delayed.

Under 3 out of 6 is hardly "most"... way to get my hopes up first line of frontpage post. :C

Thank you I now get it!

Thats a neat little throwback they did for us. now one of these SNCBNK samples is official again. Wonder if it was Taxman's idea to throw that in as trailer music...

Nobody said the PC version is delayed.

All the "they were used for looping the tracks" is pure speculation, though, even if now they're going to be used for that.

Okay not delayed, but the release is indefinite. "The Android and Windows Phone 7 versions have also been delayed until the new year and there's no word on when the Steam version will be released, though The Taxman has said on the forums that it isn't cancelled."

I'd presume this means it's NOT coming out tomorrow, though I guess that might not be the case.

Chill Hinchy. if you remember Generations the PC folk didn't get it right away either. guess its just how SEGA does things with PC releases but I'm cool with it so long as it actually does come out.

This short wait is going to feel way too long. I can't wait to download this. All of the little additions just make it look so great. :D
This is what I'm most interested in knowing, too.

Except for, y'know, how it's bleedingly obvious for some of them that that was the intended use. Seriously, you're the only one who keeps pooh-poohing the concept.

^ this. The ones that don't fit are probably from earlier versions of the songs, from before the concept got canned.

Either way we'll find out tomorrow :D Likely they were probably used where they still worked and the ones that didn't were scrapped in favor of a different type of loop.

What I'm interested in is what they did with the US past tracks, since, ya know they never really existed. So much love in this game, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw entirely new tracks to fit the US soundtrack. But ya we'll find out tomorrow.

I'd say the fact that several of them directly segue from the CD track to the loop (Sometimes in the middle of a riff, even, such as Stardust Speedway Good Future which literally cuts off on the CD track in the middle of a riff and finishes the riff in the SNCBNK) is more than enough proof.

Then listen to Collision Chaos GF, Stardust Speedway GF or either boss theme, where the audio contained in the SNCBNK files clearly pick up from where the fade-less CD tracks stop. The proof's already on the wiki, as I recall. (At work, no audio, can't verify 100% right now)

How they intended to use the SNCBNK files is one thing, but you really can't deny the audio contained therein was part of the music proper.

Extremely unlikely. More likely it stays true to the source and uses the same audio for the Past stages, as before.

Most of them did loop back to the proper track opening without much problem. There are still a few odd ones out, like Metallic Madness Good Future (how the hell was that one even supposed to work?) or Tidal Tempest which works as a sudden drop-off that alludes to its Past music before going back to the beginning.

Still, very nice to hear them utilized. It made me legitimately smile.

Anyway, I'm triple dipping on the game... that is, if my Xperia X10 can run the Android version.

Great, an actual release date. I've been a busy bugger today, so coming home to hear this is fantastic news, and in less than 4 hours I'll be downloading Sonic CD to rip apart. Also, this whole song-fading/looping business and our very own Wiki page which I conveniently missed is very intruiging!

Lastly, one note to you guys asking about them remaking the other MegaDrive games- it's not gonna happen. I'm sure they've only done Sonic CD because it was the black sheep, they had Taxman show off his own versions a few years ago, and also because correct and perfect emulation of either the PC version or the CD version on all platforms would have been very meticulous and difficult work.

I'll definitely buy this for at least one system.

Does any money from each sale actually go to The Taxman or does he receive his money from the licensing of the engine?

I haven't got an Anroid phone at the moment, but was thinking of getting one.

Was thinking of replacing my N-Gage with a Sony Xperia Play, will this phone play both the Sonic Advance android version and this new Sonic CD release?

    Thanks

wow an announcement ,,,, just the day before releasing the game!?
This release reminds me of the strategy Sega used in releasing the Sega Saturn..
Sega should have given notice at least a few months ahead of time for this game.
its so weird! doesn't Sega want to make any money?
