I'm pretty sure you have to format the usb with the xbox first, then use a program like Xtafgui to copy the demo to the flash drive.

Sonic Generations really puts the 25th Mario Anniversary, 25th Zelda Anniversary, and 25th Metroid anniversary to shame. Nintendo released an SNES rom for Mario's anniversary, have shoehorned an already announced Zelda title into being their "celebration", and didn't even acknowledge that Metroid turned 25. At all.

Sonic Generations is probably the best kind of anniversary game. Hopefully it'll be seen as a turning point for the series. All the momentum is in sega's favor right now.

Those mission descriptions sound really fun. Looking forward to the sign juggling act and the 300% boost act.

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
This is the first time in a long time I can remember people other than Sonic fans being excited for a Sonic game. Feels good.

Does burning this demo to a CD not work? I've tried it twice now the exact way I did with the first demo to no avail...

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Regarding the "Sonic can't get through a loop at top speed" thing, I don't remember having that problem in the first demo, and I've seen two vids of this demo where Sonic falls out of the same loop, which I never had that problem with in the old demo. It may just be a glitch that had popped up in this particular build but wasn't present in previous ones.

I would like to think it is a glitch, Sega may adress that issue before release or after with a patch if it isn't picked up on and fixed before it's released. At least I hope they do.

I said that earlier this year. Sonic Colors is pretty generally agreed to be good, but it felt like the people who were talking about it were the people who always talk about every sonic game. In that sense, while it was a success for the fanbase, it was a far cry from the success that the golden era of sonic games had, where literally everybody who played video games talked about them.

Sonic Generation feels like that. I get the feeling that this is going to be Mortal Kombat all over again - the game which finally brings the general population back.

Sega better hit one out of the park with their next game, because I think everyone is gonna be watching Sega with a sort of anticipation that they haven't had since the Dreamcast days. Sega is pumping out quality stuff again, it feels like they're on the cusp of being one of the big boys again.

After Generations, Sonic 4: Episode II is going to be considered the game to watch for just this reason. If SEGA screws that one up even on the same level as Episode I, the momentum they're building with this game might just wind down before they can really benefit from it.

I'm also worried that Sonic might slip into "Dynasty Warrior" territory after this, with the success the Day Stage style has been enjoying. Not that this would be a bad thing, exactly, but I'm sure you guys know where I'm coming from.

If anything, it's probably already handled. This demo build is quite likely the same build they used for previous convention demos (albeit more recent ones), in order to save time. Since they've done some (admittedly minor) tweaking in the way Sonic moves (I'm referring to his jump height), the idea that some kinks sprung up in unexpected places isn't hard to fathom. Bugfixing and tweaking both have a way of causing other problems in other places.

Although I expect we'll get more insight on that point once the hackers are done their job...

Just tested it- it was the same in the first demo. You can make it just fine, there's simply not enough path for Sonic to get a good run up. Best place to test is the just after the first time the path splits in two, before the bridge crumbles.

As probably the biggest hardcore Classic Nazi here, who hates pretty much everything post Adventure 1. I've got to the point now where I'm happy to buy Generations for the Modern gameplay as well as the Classic. Not only that, but if the next modern offering improves on Generations gameplay yet further I may just buy that too. That is of course contingent on them making a Classic series as well, while I may grow to like Modern over time, the Classic one will always be my Sonic... and let's face it, it's his return that's bringing all this attention to Generations.

Huh. How odd... but then, maybe it's just that our perception of Sonic's momentum usually sees him coming to a more gradual halt mid-loop, whereas in this game he tends to sort of stutter to a sudden halt instead.

...Now that I think of it, the reason I never had a problem might be because I instinctively Spin Dashed the moment I landed on the ledge before the crumbling bridge. The bridge would kill my roll, but I would still keep all of my speed. It's been a while since I've played it, though, so maybe I wasn't remembering clearly.

Heck if I were them I would just go ahead and can Episode II because let's face it, it'll NEVER live up to the standard Generations is setting. They will really need to keep up this level of effort and care if they want to actually redeem the series and their own name for the majority of the gaming community. As much as I wish just one game could do that, it ain't gonna happen. This game is fantastic and unforgettable in its own right but Sega really can't just make a game this incredible for Sonic and follow it up with more Sonic 4.

I think, after generations, people are going to realize the difference between DIMPS and SONIC TEAM. It might be a Call of Duty situation where everyone looked forward to the real CoD games by infinity ward, then accepted the Treyarch games as diversions until the real team returned.

I'd be fine with that, btw. Give the real Sonic Team a couple of years in between games to pump out something of Generation's quality, with Dimps filler in between.

I've pointed it out time and time again, but I'll do it again - isn't it funny how in 2006, everyone was in agreement that Dimps was by far a better developer than Sonic Team, and yet, since Unleashed, Sonic Team has bested Dimps every time they have gone head to head? I don't think anyone in their right mind would call Dimps better than Sonic Team right now.

@Jason*: I don't think it's just Classic Sonic's return, though. I think it's got something to do with the feel of the game too. This isn't Sonic trying to be serious business. This is running through some wacked out places and being a cartoony game. Colors hit the nail on the head, but the platform just didn't give it the exposure it needed. Sega didn't really market it like they are with Generations either, to be fair.

Whoa ho, let's not get ahead of ourselves now. SEGA is doing good, but I'm thoroughly enjoying what Nintendo is doing for Zelda's anniversary quite a lot.

I've got to say, I really wasn't expecting Classic Sonic's gameplay to feel so different. I liked it before, but now it just feels so much more... Right. Modern's stuff is a blast, too. I went through the level twice, once on a typical boosting session, the other going through a bit more slowly and carefully, stopping to smell the figurative roses at points. Died once in the first run when I was trying to figure out how to jump from rail to rail, thought it was LB/RB. (It was that in Unleashed, right? I'm not going mad?)

Anyhow, while there are a few small errors with the loops and stuff, I'm really happy with the demo in general. The gameplay's fun and easy to get used to, the graphics are absolutely beautiful (Youtube clips really don't seem to do it justice, when it's on an HDTV, it's... Perfect. It really seems to have captured the essence of Green Hill. Even if the design has changed since the Mega Drive days, running through it as Modern Sonic just seemed like it was in my mind's eye as a child. Sorry if this is getting pretentious, but I don't think Sega can be praised enough for this. Just can't wait to see the rest of the game.

Well that was just because Sonic Team was in shambles for quite a while before Unleashed was starting to be created and Sonic Team had some fresh blood along with some re-organization. After they straightened out Sonic Team and they got on the path with Unleashed there was no denying that Sonic Team was superior. The only reason Dimps was praised was because they were better than the, at that time, current Sonic Team.

Ehhhhhh. For all the things that Rush Adventure does horribly, horribly wrong, Unleashed does them too, to an even stronger degree (materials vs. medals, for example).
And from what I've seen of Colors on the Wii it doesn't look like that much of a step up over the DS version's gameplay.

Unleashed had you changing lanes with the bumpers, colors used the analog stick. Generations does both - when you're on a rail, the analog stick changes lanes, but if you're on a straight away, the bumpers change your lanes.

I wish they'd have just stuck with the bumpers all together, personally.

Not too sure about that brother, for every "fuck you Dimps" comment out there there's another 100 "fuck you Segas!". To most people, they're all one and the same and all to blame when things go tits up.
