Sonic Generations Megathread

  1. I am absolutely in love with that Mega Collection remix... dat slap bass, man.
     
  2. Tried making C.Sonic Jump a la Sonic CD. Didn't Work.
    Also, I've noticed that if you die and have used a checkpoint, your timer is the same as you died, not the time you get to the checkpoint. Why did they do this and has this been recently added (Unleash or Colors)?

    Jimmy's re-doing his room right now. Repainting all the walls and putting a new floor in. I know this because we're special friends.

    (Not like the's the only one capable of ripping assets, anyway.)

    I have no idea, but I'm not the biggest fan of it. I can totally see why it's there (to impose more of a penalty for dying, as recent games haven't been terribly difficult), but I wouldn't miss it if they removed this change.

    And yes, it has been added recently. It was first added in Unleashed, and I believe it's still in Colors.
     
  6. Doesn't the fact Omochao is there mean this is the easy mode? He was talking about in harder areas how I'll see red warning signs too

    You can turn him off though, right? There's an option to disable the warning signs and the on-screen button prompts, so I'm assuming you can turn off Omochao.

    Yes you can turn him off. Just can't shut him up in the demo.

    When you say top speed, that's without spindashing, right?

    I've yet to get the demo to try it personally to see - still only 51% on the download.

    I've got to say, the Team has really done a stellar job of tweaking Modern's physics. I always felt like they were WAY too heavy in Unleashed...running around hubworlds like Mazuri felt like you were a rolling barge on ice!

    This feels leaner, lighter and far more responsive. Drifting (rolling in Generations' case) feels VERY organic. It will definitely take some time to get used to the Adventure-style A-button homing attack again and I'm not at all liking that L & R triggers have been dropped for changing rails...but these are pretty minor and easily adaptable (you wanted a challenge assholes? there you go!!) Classic Sonic feels much better overall - the jump has been tweaked just enough - he doesn't feel quite as heavy anymore...not that I mind that he's a little heavier here than on the Genesis! All in all, this is a work of art.

    There's a massive pissing contest going on over at SSMB about this level being an introductory/tutorial stage...WHICH IT IS...but it certainly doesn't play like Windmill Isle Act I...I'd say it's somewhere between WI Act 1 & 2 in design/difficulty. And that's OKAY! We had so few Daytime stages in Unleashed they were right to give us a suitable challenge every time. But with Generations we have A HUGE FUGGIN gamesworth of 'Daytime' levels, Classic and Modern, so it only makes sense that they stagger them in difficulty. I don't think this is a new concept or remotely unreasonable...those who are bitching and calling the game a failure are merely attention whores at this point...IMHO! :eng101:

    So I just went through all of Omochao's voice bank, which includes all his hints from the challenge acts, and posted details in the IRC. Here's a distilled log of that. Spoilers ahoy!

    <Hinchy> there's a team-up mission with Cream, in a level with no rings and the only way to get rings is to call on Cream to throw you some

    <Hinchy> Rouge team-up: heavily armored robots block you, call on rouge to take them out

    <Hinchy> Blaze team-up: level has walls of flame, she can extinguish them

    <Hinchy> Charmy team-up: ...he can make a vortex at your feet. What?

    <Hinchy> and that's it for the challenge hints.

    <Hinchy> there are endless boost missions but you die when taking any damage, rings or not.
    <Hinchy> "YOU CAN USE ENDLESS BOOST HERE! ENDLESS BOOST LETS YOU USE BOOST ALL THE TIME!!"

    You don't even know how happy that last line made me.

    That doesn't seem right to me - that issue wasn't in the GameFEST demo. o_O

    Classic Sonic still feels a little heavy/stiff, and Modern can be difficult to steer. Otherwise, decent demo.

    Granted, this only applies to when Sonic is running on a flat plane, and there's only 1 loop like that. There are 1 or 2 other spots where the same thing happens, though.
