Sonic Generations Megathread

This is why people get the impression of just Classic and Modern. Where is Middle Sonic if that Era is distinct?

Really the 'Middle Sonic' is just Classic Sonic gameplay in 3D transforming into something alien (Modern Sonic). By the time it reached Unleashed, it was barely the same thing any more (no power ups, no rolling, hold A to keep jumping, uncurling, homing attack in 2D, boosting, rails everywhere, QTEs, slide under walls, et cetera - all levels feel the same with different art/music).

Most people like Sonic Unleashed? Really? The review scores are generally negative, it sold moderately well but not as good as past titles (maybe on par with Sonic 06 and Sonic Adventure 2?), and it is obviously polarising in the fan base. I see a lack of evidence here.

I also challenge the concept of the 'Modern Sonic fan base'. I do not think the current fans are the limit of the people who can enjoy Sonic, nor do I think that they represent the vast bulk of people with an interest in Sonic. Most Sonic fans (or ex-fans) associate Sonic with the Genesis games, either from buying them at the time, or through emulators and re-releases. I doubt the average person with an interest in playing a Sonic game even played Sonic Unleashed. There is a reason as to why Sonic 1 and 2 put SEGA at #1 in the video game market and sold a console, while Sonic Unleashed is just something people are 'eh' about.

I thought Classic Speed Highway sounded awful too. I really do not like 'Cash Cash' and this style they are using. I actually had to get someone to explain to me that this is what 'modern pop music' is. I had no idea this was a genre of music and not just noise.

Why Classic Sonic has this also confuses me. If anything, Modern Sonic should have modern music, not Classic Sonic. The whole idea here is that Classic Sonic is 'classic'.

Fair enough. I am just annoyed by the levels of positivity going on here.

The Dreamcast era preview was awesome. Saw Sonic running down the building, which gives me hope that Sonic will reach the area of city where At Dawn plays. My excitement level is increasing.

 

So you are not defending Modern Sonic? I must have misread your point then, as Modern Sonic is from Sonic Unleashed.

What exactly were you discussing with 'games that everyone else wants to play' ? In relation to gameplay style.

 

Thought I was going to see some intelligence going on since the last trailer went up. Boy do I look silly right now. In one corner we have the hate mongering Israel bashing Kogen not liking what he sees and complaining about it, and in the other corner we have what should be considered reasonable, logical thinking citizens arguing with him over opinions as though they were facts.

Am I missing something here or is that just about it?

I'd also contribute that the last two pages of playground chat haven't interested me in the least.

Regardless, speed highway looks fantastic. Just Crisis city to go and it'll be interesting to see how the designers carry out the level in an engine that works and doesn't break / glitch kill you at every opportunity.

Then again, it could just be speed highway X city escape in terms of skating section and skyscraper hopping.

Base.com have both the PS3 and 360 CE's listed. However, they're selling them at the full RRP of £99.99 so it might be best to wait and see it anwhere else is going to sell the for £75-85 like Amazon did.

That is about it. Add in 'taking the internet too seriously' with it.

People oddly seem offended at the mere prospect of someone not unanimously praising the game or even simply discussing the gameplay. It is jarring how 'Sonic Stadium' the place has become.

Needs more dickgirl manga pornography and TMNT like Cult, right?
