I'm drawing something, not that you'll ever see it.
How did we go from praising this game to heated arguements about why it's not that good? This game is practically a love letter to Sonic fans young and old. And suddenly people are screaming "BULLSHIT" and arguing over Sonic's design again.

Though I respect your opinion, I think a lot of you are being ridiculous. I for one will enjoy the living crap out of this game...That is, if it gets released for PC.

Of course there are some flaws, but it isn't the dissapointment some of you guys are making it out to be. Lower your standards a couple notches, you'll find life is more enjoyable that way.

EDIT: Looks like the argument died down before I completed my post.

Ehhh I don't care about the 3DS version, it looks very "meh". It should be kinda fun to replay the old stages with their original level designs in pretty-ish 3D graphics, but the whole game seems like something that's bound to just not work right. Kinda like Sonic Colors for the DS imo. There's a cool boss here, a cool idea there, but the general picture is just of a really mediocre game. I hope it's because they're too focused on Sonic 4 Episode II, because that's not the level of quality that I want for it.

Okay, stop right there. A few things:

    1) Criticisms =/= let down, and let down =/= load of shit
    2) The GameBoy analogy doesn't work because of expectations. Nobody bought a GameBoy expecting they could watch TV on it, and the light thing was probably a non-issue until Nintendo decided to improve the product

Probably so. All we've seen so far are levels exclusively from the Genesis and Dreamcast eras, particular GHZ, CNZ, MHZ, and Emerald Coast. No Advance stages seen so far.

Please stop conflating Ritz and muteKi with 'people' and inflating their arguments. Somebody else's opinion shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not you enjoy the game and vice versa.

    Jack shit.
Generations 3DS could have been so much more.

It only has seven stages right? And we know of what already? Five?

The light thing was a major issue at the time actually. It was the reason so many light/magnifying glass add-ons were sold.
Looking back, I was put out at a point that I couldn't buy something to watch TV on my GameBoy- I was 6 years old, had heard other things could do this, and thought it was something cool.

Bit of a bitch that the 3DS version might NOT contain Advance levels now though, when they said it would. That was the major draw for me, and also, a possible factor in to buying a 3DS sooner than planned. :colbert:

Radical Highway? Really? Of all of the Sonic stages in SA2 outside of City Escape, they couldn't find another that well represented the game in the parts Sonic actually played in? Final Rush, Pyramid Cave, and Metal Harbor are sad pandas.

    1. I sure as hell am not buying this game. Maybe the 3DS version, since I'll likely get a 3DS at some point, but it won't be a day-one purchase and I'll still want to have played the demo.

    2. Oh yes, the physics. That's exactly what I've been complaining about! Not the awful setpieces that we've seen time and again since SA2 like the single-rail-above-the-pit, the bombs-to-sidestep-while-boosting, the enemies-to-homing-attack-as-platforms, floating-enemies-while-freefalling etc. Maybe if I was talking about Spagonia's representation and not fucking Chemical Plant I could be OK with this. But it's clear that (given an otherwise fairly blank canvas as Chemical Plant doesn't already have a 3D representation) they're already out of ideas and are just reskinning the same goddamn shit from Unleashed. And I didn't like it there!

Similarly, I don't care if half the game (I.e., classic Sonic) is mostly acceptable. That was the case for Unleashed, and I still had to play through the day stages! Why wouldn't it be the same here?

    3. Wait, I'm no longer allowed to criticize certain things? Because why? Why can't I expect a handheld console to be back lit? Why can't we make TV tuners or similar services for our current handhelds? If you want a forum full of yes-men you're going to run out of interesting stuff to talk about very quickly in any case.

    4. What does Sonic 4 have to do with anything here? Why is it specifically the physics that are the issue here, and not stuff like the "GET 10,000 POINTS TO BEAT THE LEVEL"? Are you implying that I somehow have more of a say in Sonic 4's physics, and how the fuck is that even the case?

    5. Again, why do you think I'm going on primarily about the physics in any of these complaints? I've played several games with buggy physics and enjoyed them far more than Unleashed. I will take Pulseman, for example, every day of the week over Unleashed.

And will the 3DS version not include Advance stages? That's fine with me. I got tired of Advance 1's stages after having to play through them with 4 not-very-different characters (shit, at least Sonic 3 had alternate routes exclusive to Knuckles and Tails), Advance 2 had too many unmarked death pits in the second half of the game, and Advance 3 I don't completely dislike...though it's hard to get past the frustratingly slow hub areas, bad switch puzzles (which I also hated in the first Rush), and shoddy collision detection for crushing.

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
I think it's very unfair to say that it's obvious Sega is out of ideas. They're sticking with what most people like. There's a lot of ingenuity here, even if you don't like the game itself.

You should be proud of the fact that you're different! I'm proud of you! You know what you want, and Generations isn't it! Good for you! I feel bad for you though...I don't know how long you're going to have to wait for Sega to make a game that you can enjoy. It seems like they're pretty content with making games that everyone else wants play.

You guys are really, really terrible at being respectful of opinions contrary to your own. Seriously. You can bitch about Kogen and Ritz all you want in this thread, but notice how while plenty of people insulted them based on their dissenting opinion, not once did they actually insult you—just counteract your points. Think about that for a second. Doesn't sound very "trolly" to me.

I'm beyond trying to get you guys to change the way you talk to each other, but consider that a bunch of people screaming and throwing temper tantrums when everybody doesn't agree with them looks far worse than someone who dares look at something different from how you do. Grow the hell up.

Game is looking pretty boss, btw. Classic Speed Highway sounds like shit, though. Worst synth choice in the game so far.

Fair enough. I'm just annoyed by the levels of negativity going on here.

*Looks at MegaDash's link* Good show, old chap.

Anyway, the Dreamcast era trailer made me even more excited for this, actually. Digging that Classic Remix of Speed Highway's BGM.

Actually I think I'll respond a bit more elaboration. I'm comparing Chemical Plant to Rooftop Run because Rooftop Run is already in the game. Putting in the same gimmicks in a slightly different level, changing mainly the skin, is just poor padding. It's a shame too, because there are some ideas in the level that I do like -- though they seem to show up in the 2D segments and are there for classic Sonic as well, from what I can see. Given that people are complaining that all the modern levels are 2 minutes too long, taking all the gimmicks that actually contrasted Rooftop Run with the rest of Unleashed and putting them in a level where they aren't so necessary, just feels lazy at best.

It'd be like making a Sonic game which had two Green Hill Zones (that is, the same act twice, not two different acts), or three different reskins of Route 99 Act 2 (where one of the acts is set at night).

  16. I really want this game..... it is a shame that they are not including Mecha Sonic "Mecha Sonic Mk.II" (whatever its called, the robot sonic from S&K). But it would have been nice is Sega/SonicTeam merged levels from the different eras. For example Flying Battery Zone/Sky Deck, Aquatic Ruin/The Lost World, Holaska/Ice Cap, Sandpolis/SA2 Sand level (forgot the level name), Marble Hill Zone/Lava Reef Zone, SeaSide Hill/Hydrocity...... to name a few.

Hopefully Sonic Generations will be similar to what happend with Sonic Unleashed. Sega/SonicTeam tests the Sonic daytime stages (I still think the werehog was a test for a modern Ristar) and are now testing classic retro Sonic. And from what I have seen the color/music/level design of the classic stages are vastly superior to anything of the Dreamcast and Modern eras. I just have a feeling (I hope I am right) that based on the success of this game and the retro style of Sonic, Sega may make a new Sonic title totally based on the classic designed Sonic titles.

Your point is kinda moot since this is a game that's taking levels from all over Sonic's history, so of course a level from Unleashed, the game that started the current uptick in popularity for Sonic games, as well as a new definable era, gets a level included in Generations.

I'm nowhere near eloquent enough to argue with you so I'll just end this with my opinion. Nothing in this game feels like padding to me. Everything I've seen so far looks like there has been great care taken in every single facet of the game. The Unleashed style of play is popular. It works. The majority of people like it, and there is nothing wrong with that. You don't like it, and there is nothing wrong with that either. But to make accusations like "they're padding the game it's a lazy mess" just seems poorly thought out, to me. I mean, you're saying that they're reskinning Spagonia...well okay. Would you have preferred that they left out Unleashed and Colors levels entirely so as to avoid being accused of padding a celebratory anniversary game?

Feel free to disagree with me and present your counterargument in the hope of proving me wrong/an imbecile, but it won't be any fun. I don't know what else to say about the subject and proven myself to be both of those things on multiple occasions already :specialed:!

No but seriously. I get that you don't like the Unleashed style of play, but I don't get how you think it's reasonable to say that Spagonia is a lazy reskin that shows the Sega is all out of ideas. By your logic (referring specifically to point number 2), pretty much any level they include that's already been in 3D can be considered a lazy reskin that shows that they are out of ideas. Where exactly are you drawing the line?

    Bro... Not cool... ;_;

Green Forest and Crazy Gadget are in the corner crying :c (though to be fair, Green Forest would probably be too much like Mushroom Hill Zone minus the Mushrooms, even if Sonic Team was making it!)
