Ah, I see. That's very true. Though again, the rolling physics there aren't anything to go by as "correct" since I haven't seen anyone who can turn into a ball accelerating when going down a slope- Sonic or Jigglypuff- in that mode.

I have no complaints with this game so far. Yeah some things aren't perfect, but when this game is released I'm gonna play the hell out of it. The little things don't bother me much. Honestly, I'll be playing this game so much I'd hardly spot them. And if I do, who cares? As long as I'm having fun with this game, which is the point of any game, I'm happy. :)

That wasn't aimed at you MegaDash, it was simply just an observation from someone who has closely watched the workings of SEGA for years. Also, it's a business, they wouldn't possibly change the physics in Generations, but of course could for future instalments. SEGA, and a majority of people who've tried the demo simply don't have a problem with the physics, and I would believe that because of this, SEGA would not be willing to change these physics in near future instalments.

Thanks for bringing up the stupid bullshit I told people to stop talking about and then starting up the Sonic Cycle shit again. See you in 3 days.

    You too Nora.

Now shut up about cycles and physics already. We are not having this discussion again. If there's nothing new to talk about in that rea then simply don't talk about it. We got some new Chemical Plant footage.

Why don't you actually talk about that.

  5. chemical plant looks amazing, the spindash doesn't seem so over the top to me anymore possibly because these newer levels are so giant and spacey. I'm really digging the creative level design, it seems so wide open, but at the same time bundled tight with awesomeness. The camera also seems to be a little more steady, I was getting kind of dizzy playing the green hill demo. I also noticed the backrounds don't blend into the actual objects as much in this zone. Looks fuckin sweet!

Rolling physics and 3D don't quite instantly get me to any Nintendo products, but if I were to guess, I would say that Greg was talking about the Metroid Prime games (Morph Ball sequences).

    Moving on from physics...

I'm pleasantly surprised with the way Modern Chemical Plant's music sounds. I was crossing my fingers that not every track would have guitar, so for example Sky Sanctuary could have a booming orchestra, Chemical Plant could have some hard techno, etc. Even still, rockn' guitars in the way they have them works REALLY well from the few seconds of audio we have.

It's funny, I'm actually looking forward to Modern Sonic segments a little more than Classic Sonic, not even just because of the gameplay, but how they're going to Modernize the classic tracks and how Modern Sonic would run through classic levels. Love the Eggman's secret base/fortress/obligatory Eggmanland feel of Chemical Plant (as others have noted). And underwater Modern segments!

Although I'm still not happy with the Modern mix of City Escape. Still, I can always rip the original song onto my Xbox HDD, so all is well.

Perhaps a point of discussion to add into...but what do you guys think Information Pod could be? It can't be something completely huge, but since it is a part of the "level" titles, it'd be neat if it was some sort of Sonic Museum, where you'd float around in a pod and look into the history of previous Sonic games.

Maybe, like in Sonic's UGC where you get a brief history about the game when pressing said Button, you'd get a brief history of each Zone in the game.

Come to think of it, that might very well be exatly what it's going to be, given how Sonic Jam, a non-anniversary game, showcased the history of Sonic up to Jam's release in Sonic World, and this game is a full celebration of Sonic's 20 years. Something tells me the red rings might actually correspond to unlocking artwork and music this time around, like it did in Colors.

By the way, guys, I just realized that Super Sonic is more than likely going to be playable in normal levels, if not definitely going to be playable. Take a look at this little tidbit of info from June:
Note the image on the right, the one above the purple circle with japanese lettering. What are those? The CHAOS EMERALDS.

Now, the file name is "ui_common_skill_gp," but I don't really know what that indicates. Though, the lighting bolt, bubbles, flame, and green barrier obviously relate to the Sonic 3 shields and the green shield that's been in 1, 2, and redesigned in Adventure (to the color green, yay). There's also the skateboard for City Escape, the speed shoes, the Motobug with a ring (Enemy Rings?), and both the Rocket and Spike wisps from Colors. That, and a broken watch for some reason...

Just wanted to clear out some uncertainty I remember we had a week or so ago :V

As no-one's mentioned it yet, I'll point out that the Classic City Escape theme in this video is slightly different to the one aired at SoS - there are several small things I noticed, but the most obvious one is the "Oh Yeah" being removed just before the Endless Mine bit kicks in.

    Compare 3:52 of the new video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsKwNWYowwY#t=3m52 ) to 1:00 of the SoS rip ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyF_mi3ndI0#t=1m )

Speaking of music, what do you guys think will be used as the Ending Credits theme? Personally, I'm hoping that they use S3's (My favorite). But thinking more logically, they would probably use a mash-up of multiple Ending Credits themes throughout Sonic's 20 years. Or will it be something completely new?

So when I watch those CPZ videos with my sound system hooked up, I can still hear the bass while Sonic is underwater. Very clearly, in fact. The song picks back up to very fast uptempo right after he falls in the water. That little slow section just before then is only a slight refrain.

I want a Sonic 1/Sonic 2 style ending song where they remix the entire soundtrack into 1 long new song

except I want it to cover tons, and tons of songs from sonic's entire history, even ones not in the game.

That would be a dream come true.

Wow. Just saw the new footage. I was blown away on how chemical plant looks. Screen shots are one thing but, seeing it being played and some of the mechanics that go on in the level is a whole different experience. I would like to thank SEGA for having a decent looking product so far. Chemical plant looks like it will be a freaking decent level.

Edit: Would it kill them to bring back the Super-Peel Out? Does it hurt anything by being in the game?

I wonder what it'd be like if holding X made him peel-out instead of spin-dash. It'd be a risk/reward ordeal, and may tone down the abuse of spin-dashing through everything very slightly.

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
My thoughts on the new footage:

    • Is anybody else getting a Casinopolis sewer vibe from modern Chemical Plant? I simply couldn't get that picture out of my mind while watching this.
    • Not really impressed by classic Chemical Plant music. I mean, it doesn't sound bad, but it also sounds like they were sticking too close to the original; I could see it working great in Sonic 2 HD.
    • Whoever was playing this really sucks. Really. The megamack's attack patterns aren't THAT hard to figure out.
    • I don't remember seeing the classic City Escape skateboard powerup in previous footage. If they showed this off before, ignore it, but it looks like a helluva lot of fun. If nothing else, it seems to be a level-specific gimmick, which is great. I don't even see any advantage versus regular running (someone tell me why it's useful, I'm completely lost here), but it still looks like fun.

As a whole, this continues to look better and better. I'm excited as hell.

Jumping for C. Sonic looks so much better, he doesn't look to be as heavy anymore. Perfect.

Chemical Plant Zone looks absolutely fantastic, holy crap! That modern mix is some SA2 tier shit, I couldn't stop looping that part of the footage.

Why does M. Sonic sound so...quiet now?

I think Sonic's German voice actor is to blame (or praise).

Oh, I didn't know this was the German version. That explains it.

One nitpick: The framerate is looking really ugly in the modern Chemical Plant, I noticed a lot of chugging.
