Fannie Doolie likes grinding over bottomless pits, but hates boosting through narrow corridors when that's altogether much more exhilarating and still offers some margin for movement and error. Why do you think that is?

  3. I don't find the entire idea of grinding bad but the fact that they have giant chunks of the level dedicated to it is the main problem, if they had really short grinding parts with long distances between it wouldn't be so bad.

Maybe, but I never liked the stage because I thought it went with anything from the Genesis Sonic games (I never did). I liked it because of how fun it was by itself. It had a stylish, almost organic structure and design to it, and while it wasn't particularly "Sonic" surreal, it was a good start to a pretty good 3D Sonic game. Also, the music was a pleasure despite having cheesy lyrics. And it's among the few stages where the grinding actually made some sense and wasn't a chore.

    Going back to quote this:
Now that would be awesome. Imagine racing through Stardust Speedway in a similar manner to how it is protraied in the Sonic CD ending (3Min 8Sec).

I think SA2 handled it better than any other iteration of the mechanic, honestly. (Except for hopping onto different rails, fuck that glitchy shit.) There were really only a few levels that focused on it heavily, and even they were usually broken up in several segments over the level.

  7. This pretty much imo. I don't think grinding should be scraped all together, well at least for M. Sonic. In generations, they should have it more subtle. Make it more like a hidden reward for keeping up your speed and exploring less obvious areas that blends well with the aesthetics of the level like how on Green forest in SA2 with those vines on the side of the grassy roads.

Well I don't see the problem with the occasional boost through a narrow corridor. I mean what about all those times in classic Sonic where you held one direction for a couple seconds? Same thing IMO

Didn't say I hated it now, did I? When you're grinding you can switch rails to avoid obstacles/collect rings but with the narrow corridors there's even less room for interaction. Not that I really mind though. I like the gameplay style and this is just the first level.

So they went back to the way you lost rings in Unleashed? I hope they change that.

  11. At least we can collect the ones we've lost, so they're meeting us halfway I guess.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
I'm wondering if maybe the ring-loss system differs between hedgehogs. Have we seen Classic Sonic lose any rings yet?

I just fucking hate losing ten rings. Shadow The Hedgehog was okay because you had guns, and it wasn't your generic Sonic game, but games like Unleashed for which you can't really die by the hands of the enemy- there's just no excuse.

  14. This. I could care less (well, I care a little) about how they handle the modern portion of the gameplay. Make it another Unleashed, whoopity whoo. I just want to see the classic done right so that the public sees it as a more captivating game when compared next to Modern Sonic's gameplay.

While it may be important that classic Sonic loses all his rings, I really don't see how modern Sonic losing all his rings is a big deal. I mean I rarely died in Colors from ring related death, same goes for Unleashed.

In one of the videos, Modern Sonic goes from 54 rings to 11. I don't get it :/

IMO what they should've done is have the Unleashed/Generations rings system in Colors and the Colors one in Generations, the way the boost and level design worked in Colors meant you couldn't just boost through everything to avoid damage, I remember a particular section in Aquarium Park that can be particularly difficult if you don't have enough boost, the Interceptor chase, because if you get hit only once you lose all your rings with no chance of getting them back, which can mean death if you aren't close enough to the next rings/boost line, and for some reason you can't jump to avoid the arm swings.

Modern Sonic only looses 50 rings when he gets hit.

I know this probably wouldn't happen, but wouldn't Sonic 2's Hidden Palace Zone be totally baller in here?

I'd rather them not do S2 HPZ in favor of a Lava Reef / Hidden Palace / Sky Sanctuary fusion stage to represent S3K. :v:
