I googled it too, then looked back at the orginal picture and was still all "Why dose this image need that again?" still looks fine to me

No matter how good something looks, there will always be a graphics jockie waiting to say how it could look better, with some unknown filter barely anyone has heard of in the normal world XD

    From the press release:
I read somewhere that the story is written by the writers of Sonic Colours, don't remember the source though.

    I just want to say, this image is the most beautiful thing I've seen in my life. ;_;

That image gives me Sonic 3D vibes, actually, presumably due to the perspective and the presence of a loopy-path-thing (3D had those, right?)

    Working on my art!
If I were to guess based off of packaging and zone popularity I would be guessing the following levels

    Sonic 3- Hydrocity zone
Sonic CD- Stardust Speedway (Honestly that Metal Sonic race is probably the one reason why he's even a recurring character these days, it's safe to say that if they decide to base anything off Sonic CD, it'll be this level)
Sonic Adventure 2- City Escape or Radical Highway

If they decide to be creative with mixing up the level tropes though, they might decide differently, although Hydrocity is pretty unique as far as water levels go. Basically any level besides Angel Island is fair game.

Unleashed is hard to say since all the levels are real world locations. If I were to take a guess I would say Apotos due to the fact that it looks the least like any of the normal Sonic tropes. It could also be Shamar though due to the current lack of a sand level

I'm pretty clueless though as to guessing what level would be based off Adventure. It could be just about anything. However if I had to guess based off current level tropes already used then I would say either Lost World, Ice Cap, Sky Deck, or Final Egg (They likely won't use Hot Shelter since Sonic never actually played that level, in fact Tails and Knuckles didn't play it either)

As for Heroes, that's a toughy since it's whole existence is based on reusing old level tropes only with team work. But also off the same idea as with Adventure 1, using tropes that haven't been used yet we're left with Grand Metropolis/Power Plant, Casino Street/Bingo Highway, That haunted Mansion level, and Egg Fleet/Final Fortress. I highly doubt they would put Seaside hill in. Maybe Ocean Palace, but then you'd run into the problem with the fact that that level looks too much like Apotos.

Only one platform was still before Sonic landed on it, and that's just because you run off a ramp and straight on to it.

You, my good sir, are three years late. It's being like this since Sonic Unleashed. And that's the entire point of the Hedgehog Engine; to provide pseudo-realtime Global Illumination based off of pre-baked GI maps. All the static object, like the scenaries, are lightmapped with real raytraced Global Illulination, Ambient Light, Indired Lighting, Ambient Occlusion and Cavity, while all the dynamic objects, like Sonic, have pseudo-realtime GI, that is based from the aforementioned pre-calculated maps. And lightmapped shadows and dynamic soft shadows are seamlessly blended together with the use of a shader.

Even Sonic Colors impressively uses this technique, although in a more simple manner. So yeah, this is definitely not news. And even myself uses a similar technique in my game engine; that's why I know about it so much.

I guess I've been too spoiled with the constant 16xAF on my computer that I always notice when a game uses anything lower.

I had a similar idea before, but I don't think the two are related so closely. I think, if they were, the toys would be branded Sonic Generations.

Though, thanks for making me visualize Stardust Speedway's Metal Sonic Race in Unleashed 3D glorly. Jizzems.

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
You're miles ahead of me—I barely understood a goddamn thing that article just attempted to explain. Mayhap I'm just retarded. Ah, well.

If someone would care to explain in simpleton's terms exactly what's lacking, that'd be great. If not, I'll just register that I think the screens look lovely even without those silly filters, whatever the hell they do.

    All the bitches.

Without it, it's a shitty, blurry mess, and with it it is a nice smooth transition. You can't even try and say that the game looks fine without it in screenshots, in the closeup pictures Sonic's eyes are solid green because of the mipmaps.

Here's what I gathered from the very first paragraph: it makes blurry images in computer-generated 3D environments less blurry and more detailed at any given viewing angle. So, if you're looking down at a computer-generated image of a 3D environment, as if you were on a plane, objects at any given distance can look blurry and lack definition. It also resolves aliasing issues. If you still don't understand, just look at the pictures. According to the article, anisotropic filters and anti-aliasing are common options in modern graphics cards.

But enough of that shit, the images look considerably exquisite, and the game is still about seven or eight months away if it isn't delayed further. I like the wet sheen effect on the ground there. If I had to say anything about that image, I could say the grass textures could use some more detail and the surfaces more gritty detail, but I'm really not going to notice it while I play the game unless it's noticeably different by the time I actually play it.

Yeah, 'Dash, I got the basic gist of it, I just couldn't figure out what notable effect that would have on the screens in question.

I can and I will—it looks fine. You're either exaggerating or just ungodly picky when it comes to graphics.

So, uhh, when can we get ahold of the model for classic Sonic?

Yes, I mean the mesh. Rigging too, if possible.

You're retarded if you try and defend any of these pictures.

Solid green eyes, textures blurry as hell, the texture for the flower is lower res than an average Wii game texture.

Eyes are messed up, stomach has bad uv mapping, textures are blurry.

Textures almost solid colour from being so blurry.

Terrible, lowres textures on the logs.

Good god, where did those screenshots come from, and why do they look so much worse than the gameplay videos we've seen.

The game is still 7 months from release (if it comes out in November), so I expect that it looks better when it comes out. I don't remember Sonic Unleashed having textures that blurry:

EDIT: Actually, I just noticed. Classic Sonic doesn't look near that bad in my avatar. Maybe the screens PolygonJim posted are from an older build?
EDIT 2: The screenshots PolygonJim took the pictures from are at a much higher resolution than the game actually runs at. (1280 x 720) Here's a screenshot at the right resolution:
You never get that close to the textures when you actually play the game, so it can get more easily away with things like this. It still doesn't look very good, but not near as bad at a superhigh resolution.

Probably because Jim posted the screenshot of the level select map, rather than an actual level screenshot. Although that doesn't explain why both C. Sonic and M. Sonic look so bad on the level select screen... Maybe that's still in beta?

I posted 2 ingame screenshots as well. There's no excuse for that other than them being retarded.

Classic Sonic's eye still looks bad even at the correct resolution, hopefully that kind of stuff will get fixed before release.
