Sonic 06

So, while trying to write up exactly why the story works, I've hit a snag:

Why does Mephiles tell Silver about Sonic and send him back in time?

 

Because he's Dan Green.

No, really, I got nothing other than he's just being evil and wants someone to do his dirty work using knowledge he somehow obtained.

 

That's like asking why does Dr. Robotnik make all of these areas with doors that only open from the direction that Sonic is going to come and attack him from. Villains don't really think about themselves, it's all about driving the plot with them.

 

Okay.

"Mephiles sends Silver back in time because he feels like it, and because the story demands it."

 

Because Silver wants to know why Iblis exists. Sonic DID trigger Iblis to come out in the past, so it makes sense.

 

That's no worse than Sonic 1, in fairness.

Because Silver and Blaze are genuine combattant assets? Better to have 3 assassins running around than just one.
Mephiles may be a demigod, but he's not a tactical mastermind (or even in possession of a regular, linear mind at all), so getting other people on-side makes sense.

We all take the piss out of Mephiles for going through with his stupid convoluted plan before he ends up just KEBABING Sonic... but in fairness, you wouldn't expect a plan that simple to actually work against a hedgehog who's defeated the world's most dangerous scientist a million times. After all, Shadow beats Mephs up loads of times despite his 1337 p0werz, so Mephiles may well not have tried to deal with Sonic himself because he genuinely didn't think he would win.

The fact that he does - and so easily - just goes to show that even villains get lucky sometimes.

 

The present Mephiles anyway. Future Mephiles is never fought until he turns into Solaris.

I guess this is true.

 

Bringing Silver into the equation actually makes it HARDER for Mephiles... but more on that tomorrow when I've finished this page-long essay on '06 and gone to sleep.

It can be hard discussing plot points when the plot was written from the kiss to the beginning and the added to when it needed some sort of cutscene.

Mephiles needed Sonic dead because he was the Iblis trigger however, I take it that he doesn't know of Sonic the hedgehog but just that he sets it off, so he doesn't know what Sonic is capable of so he sends lackey who will stop at nothing to stop (start) the iblis trigger. Mephiles doesn't seem to know if he fought Sonic what the outcome would be which is why when he find Sonic and the Princess he sneaks out of nowhere and kills him, he doesn't come out of the blue to do this all... So... Mephiles is a coward.

 

If you're really gonna question why Amy doesn't hurt enemies by jumping on them in Sonic Adventure, we're really gonna question this.

 

I fear I'm opening a big can of worms about what we think the whole '06 meta-timeline is with this... but wasn't Mephiles Phase 2 (Shadow's last boss under Dusty Desert) 'Future Mephiles'? I always thought Mephiles essentially went straight from that fight with Shadow to the Kebab a'la Sonic scene, and from THERE to the Solaris-fusion scene.

I kind of agree... but did Mephiles KNOW it was gonna make stuff harder?

Future Mephiles only has the Purple Emerald. The present Mephiles got hold of the Yellow and Green Emeralds. Shadow then fought fought him.

Also Future and Present Mephiles look slightly different. Future has blue streaks on his spines while present Mephiles has like...Gray(?) ones.

On topic with the OP:

I originally thought this could've been a great game if they kept the basics; which are the basic idea of the art style (a more realistic Sonic), the superlarge environments, the Egg Gunners, and the new Eggman. I honestly would've loved to see a realistic Sonic be successfully pulled off, if only for just one time and not ever again. Plus, those open environments looked promising and fun to run through, and the day-night system sorta hinted towards a possibility for a sandbox Sonic title. Kingdom Valley was probably only so good because it was the least rushed and thus most developed level in terms of layout.

The only redeeming things about the final version of the game was the music (given), and Eggman and the mechs. No really. That was one of the coolest variations of Eggman ever. Everybody hatin.

You'll get no disagreement from me. He could have done with being a bit more OM NOM NOM OBESE, but even with that minor caveat he's still my favourite Eggman design. The only other one that comes close is SatAM Robotnik.

You do realize that, after transporting himself, Shadow, and Rouge to the future, Mephiles goes and gets Silver, right?
