    Doing absolutely nothing
One good Sonic game does not break the cycle for me. SEGA needs to keep it up for a good while if they want my trust back.

    Jack shit.
Tails voice is sounding okay too. Didn't know Sakura could sound like that though. =P

You have no idea how satisfying that is.

Also this. People forget that we have had instances of "Sonic is back!" just for another bad game to come out and ruin the momentum. And no, that's not a Sonic 4 pun.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Like when? Every recent game had game-breaking flaws for some people, and was worshipped by others. By my reckoning, Sonic Colors is the first game in a long time that has been almost unanimously praised.

Which is one step in right direction. We don't know if the series will trip on the next step yet. Things are certainly looking up no doubt though.

Yeah, Colors is pretty much a different situation entirely from past titles. Evvverrryone seems to enjoy the game on the whole, with little complaints/nitpicks. I think in this instance, the Cycle has indeed been broken.

But like OSM said, I still want the next few games to be good before I can officially say 'Sonic is Back'.

Personally after Next Gen's flop, I've found nearly every Sonic title (par maybe Chronicles, though it's still playable at least) as passable and somewhat enjoyable. The Cycle may not be gone but it's at least lightened down from before, though I shouldn't jinx things.

That doesn't answer my question. Which game made everyone think "SONIC IS BACK" right before release, when all of the secret additions had been revealed, only for the next game to completely suck? Every recent game has had mixed reception.

Ah, so Sonic is supposed to sound older. Makes sense. It's a certain somebody's 20th birthday in some months.

...Assuming we're not going by fictional age. Which we probably are, because otherwise that would make Tails 19. But whatever.

I've been staying out of this thread until the news cooled down, but I think I might as well give my input on the new voices.

Honestly, I may be the only one (or at least in the minority) to say this, but BOTH voices are unconventional for me. One issue I have with Kate Higgins is that because I watched the horrid Naruto dub (subs are infinitely better, and even THEN I hate the show itself), all I hear from Tails is Sakura. It's hard to get used to.

Not saying that Tails doesn't sound like a boy (Sakura actually sounds very tomboyish in the first place, it's just a bit weird to hear that in Tails' voice): this IS his best voice yet, even better than Cory Bringas if you ask me, especially in actual acting quality. To me, this voice sounds a lot more natural and closer to being 8 years old than the last one, which just sounded like a woman holding her nose.

As for Sonic, yeah, it's very different than anything we've had before. Honestly never expected it. However, I agree that despite it sounding -deeper- and more masculine and heroic, he still very much sounds within his age-range vocally. I know of people YOUNGER than Sonic who have deeper voices than RCS's Sonic. But basically, because of it being so different, it's really jarring to get used to. The acting is great, but for Sonic's voice, it just doesn't seem right. Honestly, this voice would have fit Shadow better, but that's just me. And if RCS ends up voicing Shadow, I obviously expect a deeper voice than this, since he's already gone this deep for Sonic.

Oh, and I sincerely hope that the Colors DS demo gets on the US Wii Shop Channel soon. Even though I still don't intend to get the DS version, I would like to try it out.

Except that to me, -I- hear Sakura in his voice. Maybe I'm crazy. Or too used to the actress' voice, so I make a connection between the two roles I know best.

Wasn't even trying to answer your question, but I'll give it a shot.

Secret Rings actually had very good reception pre-release, and when it was released it's press and fan reception mostly was quite positive. The next game in that series was Black Knight. Granted, Secret Rings had already become less popular by then (it's flaws had really started to show), Black Knight just shat all over the potential. Maybe you could say the same about Rush. It was hugely popular with fans and critics before and for a while after release but has become less popular over time. Rush Adventure was the criticised for being the same game with an annoying gimmick tacked on.

Secret Rings and Black Knight are the best example though. Opinions towards Secret Rings now are somewhat iffy, but at the time it was actually being called a great Sonic game.

Y'know, when I first heard Roger's voice in that video where he was practicing his lines for the Sonic-themed stuff at Alton Towers, I was like "Eh, he's trying way too hard to fit Sonic."

But now that I've heard him in the cutscene, I actually like his voice now. And it's good to see that Sonic Colors is actually a light-hearted game again. I mean, seriously, how can you take a story seriously when Tails' translator looks like it could give Google Translate a run for its money in the Blind Idiot Translation department, and Sonic, Tails, and Talks-a-lot Yacker are all aware of it?

SEGA desiring a new take on the voices isn't new. Apparently Maddie Blustein claimed she voiced her rather different sounding Omega how the directors asked (judging by the use of recycled clips of Jon St John's work in later games, this one didn't take on however).

Also keep in mind some of the rather different sounding English voices for certain characters, eg. Chip, Blaze.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
No, you're not crazy. I can hear Sakura under that voice, too. It's not as overt as, say, hearing a Power Ranger whenever Vergil speaks in Devil May Cry, but it's there.

Personally, I quite like the voices. The script makes 'em out a lil' over-the-top in terms of characterization, but maybe that's just this one scene, and it ain't TOO bothersome, either.

Also tried the DS Demo yesterday and earlier today. And, damn, it's much more fun than Sonic Rush ever was. But then, to me, that's not very difficult to achieve, but, still surprising. Low level of unfairly-placed bottomless pits and those pits that pit that I did find and ended up in, it was entirely my fault to end up there to begin with.
After playing through the stage 6 times, I realized that I never took exactly the same route twice at all... that was a nice surprise. Hope the rest of the game ends up the same.

That cutscene #4 won as soon as Sonic moonwalked back into shot XD nice voices, non invasive music, fairly good rapport between the two and a forth wall moment, excellent

  19. Everyone says there is a demo for Sonic Colors DS on the Nintendo Channel...

But I can't find it! UK only?

There's MORE to Europe than just the UK.

It appears to be available in all of PAL-Europe, though, yeah. <.<
