The Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Megathread

I was referring to what was grabbed from the Sonic 4 websites assets actually, not the trailer, although yeah, I bet SEGA are kicking themselves for adding 'summer' into the launch trailer now.

As for the new trailer, I think it's great! Not anything we haven't seen before, but still, I'm happy that we've got clean footage now.

 

The trailer is shit, and this 'big news' is shit. Sure, it will get refined more, but surely if they had any idea what they were doing in the first place, they wouldn't need us to dissect leaked videos frame by frame to get a clue of what is best. Seriously.

 

I agree. I'm willing to wait a little longer for a higher quality game. Shigeru Miyamoto's quote about "a delayed game eventually being good, a bad game is bad forever" applies here. While I didn't think Sonic 4 looked bad, I'm all for making it better.

 

Oh gods, I just had a terrible (could be considered brilliant by some) thought, though I'm confident it won't become truth.

Bah, you people are ridiculous. How long ago was it that people were saying they should delay the game...? Bah. Whatever. Unpleasable Fanbase is Unpleasable.

As for the trailer, what did you expect? Trailers emphasize the most exciting-looking parts of any game or movie, which also happen to be the parts with the least substance most of the time.

 

I think this is definitely good news. Delaying = more time to fix bugs, errors and change a couple things that may not look good if it was released on the expected due date.

As far as I care, the best way for them to use this extra time is to fix the following:

- Fine-tune the controls and make that jump just right.
- Remove a few boosters that at this point are likely not needed.
- Change up a couple things with LLZ2 and CSZ2(aka fix that mine cart and make it rings instead of points, or at least cost less points to win).
- polish the art up a bit so it looks more decent.
- Give Jun at least a decent synthesizer for god's sake and then let him try again at it.
- Finally, fix up the homing attack a little so it doesn't generate so much momentum when not being used to hit enemies or objects.

If they can use their time to at least fix these things up, then it'll at least be on par/somewhat better than Sonic Advanced 1. And I am pretty certain that this would be a good thing. :v:

 

I find it completely ridiculous that people are actually COMPLAINING about the game being delayed. When was the last time a Sonic game got delayed, ever? This can only be a good thing, surely.

 

Maybe it wouldn't be so troublesome if they specifically stated what they're fixing to make the game better. But from the new trailer, I guess we can leave the graphics out (which I never had a problem with).

Also, they never really stated that it was because of the "complaints". In fact, they said the opposite - by stating that they received an "overwhelmingly positive response" from it's fans. But if that's the case, maybe they should've been glad for all the leaks then?

But this doesn't mean that I've lost hope though, but I just hope they aren't going to be as SECRETIVE about information as they were before (a new rehashed bandik every so weeks - I mean come on, that's not exciting). That curiosity, plus the fact that they gave it the name "Sonic 4" might've been the reason the game got leaked in the first place.

It's too soon to be saying that this is a good thing right off the bat, for me at least. But granted though, I still would've preferred the game we were "originally" going to get (not including the obvious bugs that would've been fixed if they actually tested the god damn game after all those weeks of it being taken off ParterNet). But it's just the long waiting times I just cannot fathom anymore.

But hey, at least we got Super Mario Galaxy 2 in a few days, heh.

I'm rather disappointed. The trailer shows that they've not done fuck all. There's still speed boosters and everything and they're not going to do anything. People do not want to play a game which is plagued to death with Dimps' silly things. There's also no PC version, which people want. The iPhone is a useless piece of shit and time would be better spent on a PC port.

Fuck you RubyEclipse and SEGA. I'll be buying Rocket Knight some time in the future. You know, a game which was done by an external team and still played good, unlike this "collaboration" which is failing hard thanks to certain elements.

If a hacking team like Team Megamix or SÆGA worked on Sonic 4, it'd be miles better than this.

 

Or they could just do more of the same bad ideas they've been doing, only this time we have to wait several more months than we would have to play it.

 

I am CRUSHED that the game is delayed, and that I will have to wait longer for this game.

I am HAPPY that SEGA is willing to take the time to make the game better and answer complaints about the game.

But still...

 

I'm struggling to think of a time Sega has EVER delayed a Sonic game. Only time I can think of is Sonic CD, and that was so it wouldn't compete with Sonic 2.

 

What? I don't follow you. When did they "need" us to dissect leaked footage frame by frame? They weren't expecting it. They probably decided to do this whole fan-feedback thing to take advantage of the leaks.
As of the trailer. Yes its shit. They only showed stuff which we consider is "bad". However, that doesn't really bother me so much.

What does bother me, is that whilst some are taking this whole thing about delays well and see it as a step forward in Sonic Game development (I.e if they do this with every game, we may never again see another Sonic 2006), there are others who still don't like it. They are trying to do what we want. They are making the game better by listening to what we said, whats so bad about that?

Sad to say, but this is true. Hating a game that may well be improved up to the level of the Sacred Trilogy, means you just have a deep-seeded hatred for the game and will likely never like it.

 

This is what they WANT you to think.

I'll wager this has been done exclusively because of the leaks. They want to make everyone who pirated it THINK that all they have is a shoddy beta, so they'll actually buy the "fixed" game when it comes out.

Of course, it won't be "fixed". There'll be one or two cosmetic differences and nothing else.

Calling it.

 

So am I the first to point out that Sonic doesn't uncurl in the new trailer when he bops enemies without using the homing attack?
