There's something strange and funny I discovered in that demo.
After the beginning, there's that column with a robot on it (where there's that eagle statue that activate the wind route if you attack it). Well, try this: turn the camera so you can see the "road" you'd take thanks to the statue and place Sonic near the rock that are "close" to you. Look up in the sky, you should see an eagle flying in circles. Well if you correctly placed Sonic, the eagle will get stuck in the sky, releasing an infinite number of feather textures, it will look like it's exploding. I don't know why that depends of the placement of Sonic though.

Here in the UK a pre-owned copy of it seems to hold the same if not more resell value than a copy of Sonic unleashed...

pretty sure unleahsed can be found brand new actually, for around £10, yet Sonic '06 costs at least £12 pre-owned...

    Jack shit.
I believe Unleashed had more copies made than '06 and '06 was discontinued some time after it came out.

  4. It may also be one of those situations where people want to own the worst Sonic game ever made, not unlike people wanting to own Superman 64, or to find that Atari ET landfill, for about the same reason.

Amazing how the demo had better homing attack, I honestly don't remember much about the demo since it was long ago but the full game was sold within 2 weeks of christmas when I officially said "fuck this shit" to it all :argh:

Eh, I think the demo just plays a little bit better because most of the stuff is uncompressed...I think anyway, I'm not a big fan of this game (not sure why other people would be either).

I did hear the Japanese releases perform much much better, but I haven't found anything to confirm. NicoNico might have some videos of the game running, of course. It's pretty popular for speed running in Japan for some reason, heh.

It still disappoints me how much potential there was with that game...

...until they announced Princess Elise and the "all-new hejhawk lulz" and Shadow's unwanted presence. Then that's when we started to see things go down.

Only if this would've seen the light of day:

I mean, they just basically took what they had with the awesome previews and screwed up the game so bad that we can't even look at these screenshots anymore without cringing. It's rather depressing.

That would be unbelievably stupid if that were the case.

The Demo plays a tad better?

I'm going to see if I can download it now to see for myself.

That screenshot fueled my dreams in middle school. Oh, what could have been...

  12. Everytime I review Sonic '06's development history, another part of me dies. Especially if there's some new tidbit we've discovered through an interview somewhere. Looking at the list of things SEGA had planned, there was no way they were going to be able to finish the game. They bit off way more than they could chew with that one. I'm sure a lot of us would like to think things would've been different had Naka stuck around longer, or if Ogawa hadn't disappeared with half the team to develop Secret Rings, but we'll never know for sure. For all we know, the project could've been doomed from as early as Winter '05/'06.

I'll probably be speared for this, but part of me disrespects Naka for his decision. Forming Prope was all well and good, especially as a means to (mostly) avoid Sammy's iron fist while keeping a job within SEGA, but I feel the man should've at least seen Sonic '06 through to the end before jumping ship. I'm sure there's more to it than that, especially given his (then) current position in the company and how he personally felt about his superiors and the company's situation overall, but that doesn't change the fact that he flat out gave up. He gave up on the character and brand many would consider his child. Sure, Sonic as a character was originally Oshima's pride and joy, and Sonic's world wouldn't have been complete without Yasuhara, but Naka had outlived the rest of the team as far as taking care of the Sonic franchise was concerned. Naka gave up on his own child to make some bullshit party game that penguins could play. And such a tagline would've been irrelevant if it weren't for the popularity of cinematic penguins at the time (March of the Penguins, Madagascar, Happy Feet, etc.).

Saw it in gamestation the other day, still cracking £10 preowned for a 360 copy, still a bit to pricey for my taste. Espeshally when I could get DOAXtreme2 for £4 >w>

I know, right? He was the one that announced the whole thing to begin with, and he decides to bail out just suddenly because "yeah, I'm tired of that blue retard". Hasn't he ever heard of leaving with a bang? That's exactly what he could've done (especially considering the "back-to-roots" and "renovation" concept behind Nextgen's beginning intentions), but he didn't seem to get the point behind that, so he just up and left.

Psst, guise.. I heard that in an alternate dimension Noato Ohshima randomly came back and took over the project after Yuji left, creating the best Sonic game ever =V

  15. Don't you worry, we'll crack the good ol' multiverse theory someday. Until then all we can do is sigh and think about what could have been, while simultaneously appreciating the much more impressive Sonic Unleashed and smack talking the supposed 'unfaithful sequel' that is Sonic 4.

The fact the demo has been taken down does sadden me somewhat - in the current age of intangible download-only stuff, we're going to lose a lot of gaming history from now on.

I've got a copy of the demo on my 360's HDD actually, for however long that continues to work.

I'm surprised we've not archived the demo within our wiki yet; we got a download link available to us right now. Someone get on it!

Every time I see that screenshot, I wish Sega would make an awesome open-world 3D Sonic game.

That's a CG movie, there was nothing to see the light of day. Development on the game probably hadn't even been started yet.
