    I remember seeing artwork for Special Zone and it looked great, I don't think there is much I can improve on.

    Edit: Now that I posted, I was wondering if nineko, or anyone have the rest of the Chemical Zone background. The one you gave was missing the animated part to fill in those rectangles. I'm just about finished with the lower half of Chemical Zone's background besides that. It was pretty rough too since there were lots of details that I didn't have a clue what it was.

    Here is a look at a composite of what I got. I drew the mega mack(?) pretty quickly, but I think it looks alright. Still working on the background, technically you would be viewing about the middle of the background at this point of the stage, but I hadn't finished it. The bottom is still missing the animated things and I need the sprites I can't find them.

    Shockingly, I approve!

    Though there's some tiling issues with the yellow/black warning tape, and you might want to tone down the red glow on the background. But anyway, yes, I hope to see what the completed background looks like! (Right now it doesn't quite suit the foregound, see =P)

    I figured that I could always render everything separately with its own lighting set up and compile it in photoshop, but as you said, it wouldn't look as good as rendering it all on the same screen so that things are reflecting and gaining shadows from other objects in the scene.

    Elratauru, I actually quite like those effect. Perhaps a tad too strong, but great in concept. I always thought that liquid was glowing:)

    I really like where these 3D models are going. Now, are the models just for concept/guidance, or are they actually being considered for in-game art?

    They're very good looking, but I'm concerned about a style clash. I don't actually hold an opinion on it at this point, I just wanted to know what the rest of you thought.

    If some 3D elements are thrown in every level, they might not clash as much.

    Perhaps you could have a try at Emerald Hill's blocky foreground, to see how it mixes with the hand-drawn grass/flowers?

    I think he should first try to come up with a fix for the color and lighting. If those can't be corrected then the his EHZ tiles will pale in comparison to the tiles that were already that are already remastered and color matched to perfection.

    Emerald Hills art looks awesome and I refuse to touch it. I know I can't best that. Then it would be me trying to force my art to mix with that when it really isn't necessary. Here I did everything in 3D so nothing clashes (besides the mega-mack) as of yet.

    I will say this though, after bringing my render into photoshop I played with levels and applied filters to make it look flatter, not much the change was subtle. Especially with the background because it was so saturated that it was popping more than the actual stage.

    I could do Aquatic Ruin, but the blocks would need to be heavily textured and bump mapped, neither of which I particularly excel at. The entire reason I started modeling the flipping blocks was because I saw test-object's platform WIP and I just wanted to make something that I felt was so blatantly screaming to be done in 3D. Then everyone positive reactions gave me incentive to continue.

    As long as people are excited for my next update, I'll keep going.

    Ow, my eyes. Way too exaggerated there. It'll be better to wait until MaximusDM has more finalized renders to start playing around with things like that. Especially considering they're more than likely going to be set up as templates for remasters. How it progresses on that side of things is really Gambit's call though.

    I don't want to waste all of Gambit's efforts on this - as he's done a *fantastic* job on it - but I was thinking about seeing what EMZ(?)/EHZ's twisted loop might look like in proper 3D, and then we can make a comparison between the two.

    Speaking of which, isn't that only *half* of the loop? I suppose I presume that the bottom half mirrors the top half; if that's so, has anyone attempted to merge both halves together?
