I'm getting it for the Xbox 360, so that won't be a problem for me. :P

 

Eh. I think Sonic in 3D fits the gamecube controller more, and since its 2.5D and the Revolution has a 4 controller selection, it would feel more at home there than on the 360 and PS3.

I move from denial to acceptance and say:

I don't care about a game being authentic to the old stuff. For some reason nobody complains when Mario doesn't do that.

I want a well-executed and fun-to-play game that is pretty damn fast moving.


Give me the werewolf. But make the gameplay unbelievably awesome.

 

...But that's because Mario games have quite good gameplay.

...and the new characters are based on new youth trends. I'd fucking complain if Mario had a new brother who was a goth.

 

I've yet to see any Mario characters to get a gun or turn into werewolves, to be honest.

But Mario does have relationships to his old games, we see more goombas than motorbugs. I think that Mario has a lot of classic connections, in both main games and spin offs. Sonic only has those classic moments to a minimum, its either a unlock-able or a once in blue moon type of thing - although they have shoved Green Hill down our throats several times.

 

Except they -do-. Remember Mario Sunshine and its waterpack gimmick? Yeah. Nintendo doesn't get as much flak for changing Mario because most of the changes make sense in the context of the franchise and actually function, and in a similar vein, you don't see SEGA getting criticism for giving Sonic a homing attack or light dash. The issue, as Jose implied, is that many of SEGA's gimmicks make no sense. If the next Mario game is announced to be Super Mario Vice City, you can expect complaints.

I agree. Every major console Sonic game has had some stupid gimmick or character addition-- it's stupid. Sega just needs to be straight up with everyone and give us a Sonic game.
I'm including Secret Rings in this criticism too because while it was a decent game, I had no interest in an Aladdin based story. Points for originality I guess, but I haven't met anyone that said, "WOW! COOL! ALADDIN!" Something that didn't turn me off to the game... but something that I didn't fall in love with either.
Most likely will be the same type deal with WereSonic. We'll see though!

One of the things that ruined the 3D Sonic games for me in a sense was the character scripts. Some of the things they say are retarded.

Even in Secret Rings, DS Sonic sounded retarded in some of the things he said. What I liked about the 2D games. The lack of voicing because of the lack of capabilities. One thing that might ruin the game is a bad story that is spoken in an idiotic fashion. At least if the voicing is awesome or its text based, the story won't seem that bad, if it is bad, and the game will make a better impact.

 

I think that happens when they make the game take itself too seriously, but that's something kids seem to like in their anime.

 

Fuck kids. Make Sonic games for REAL sonic fans. :/

 

That's the problem right there. We may be what some consider 'real Sonic fans', but the problem is that we are not a majority. The majority of those who will buy Sonic games are those small children who watched Sonic X with their time traveling Ninja Turtles and like the carryover from the show to the games now that the show is over. Sonic's attitude has changed from what he was with Ryan Drummund to exactly the same from the show.

So I'll repeat my point. SEGA will not make the game how we want it. SEGA will make it for the majority, the unthinking children who will buy it because it has the name Sonic on it.

But really. You'd think that if Sega listened to the people that knew how to make a Good sonic game, namely the fans, not only would they make a good game, they'd be able to make a good game for the mindless kids as well as the "OMG THAT PIXEL IS OFF BY 2PTS" kind of people, raking in MORE money if that's what they really want. Because

1. It will be good.
2. The majority will buy it regardless of if its good or not.
3. If its good, MORE people will buy it.
4. They can make cheap spin off shows of the GOOD products. If it bombs, no one wants anything more to do with it. :/ If it rocks, they the'll make toys and comics and all that jazz.
