What direction does "Sonic" need to go in?

You're not on your own actually; I find it annoying when I accidentally hit a 'past/future' sign, I have to wait until the stars wears off so it doesn't keep on messing around travelling back and forth every 5 minutes - IMO Sonic CD just bugs me to death.

 

You should play in time attack mode more often then.

Unrelated: I'd love to see another 2D game by Aspect. Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble were great, and it'd be interesting to see what they'd do with the GBA's/DS' hardware power, because although most of their games were decent and none would strike me as particularly bad I wasn't too happy with Dimps' style of gameplay. (I haven't played Rush and Rush Adventure yet though.)

 

The style of the SMS/GG games seems too fundamentally different to fit well on a more established platform. I don't think that if Aspect were to make one that it would still be considered "good enough."

 

Which makes me wonder... if we can't even agree on what were good classic games then how can we expect to agree on what are good current sonic games =P

 

I think we can all agree that Sonic Next Gen sucks balls, and that Sonic 1 GBA was a disaster.

 

The second yes, but I'm sure some people probably liked Sonic Next Gen.

 

Sonic CD wasn't bad, but it certainly isn't as good as many people try to play it off to be.

Still a fun game, though. Especially if you get all the badnik generators. :D

Quite high. I play Sonic 3 & Knuckles on a handheld the whole time. It's called a PSP.

 

Not just Sonic Next, but Rush Adventure sold horribley its first week.

 

I think going for the Special Stage is more in line with "the way Sonic should be played" or whatever.

 

Yeah, I am not a huge Sonic CD fan, myself. It is reasonable, but not great. I think easily the best sonic was S3K, but, that is my own personal opinion. Anyway, I DO wish Sega and many other companies would more often listen to the fans, one would think it to be in their best interests, but, alas, logic is often not the way of the world. *hopes this is an acceptable first post as 10 to make a good impression has him quite nervous about not doing well enough*

They do. In fact, Sega listening to its fans is WHY the recent games have sucked so hard—we're only a small fraction of the userbase. The majority ENJOYS the crap they've been releasing, and that brings them a majority of their income. To them, we're not the best economic choice, and therefore it's less profitable to produce quality when they don't HAVE to to make the money they want.

 

Actually, I was under the impression that it's what the younger fans WANT. I dunno, maybe Sega doesn't consider the older fans profitable? In any case, I agree with you that Sonic CD was just average and S3&K was great. Sonic 2 will always be my favorite, though.

What's with all the Rush Adventure hating? I thought that game was pretty good...I loved Blaze, and I hope to see her appear in some newer games. Her, and Silver.

anyway, though, thanks for clarifying, now I feel like a complete ass, cause I am supposed to make a good impression, but, anyway, yeah, did not think of it from the kiddie mindset, I still wish they had kept the really evil SA2 Eggman, it showed that he really was serious so well, instead of the crap now. Ahh well, I suppose, though, yeah, this kinda crap will probably lead to sonic's demise if it is not remedied

 

I think we've been saying that since Sonic Heroes.

Anyways, the evil Eggman concept I felt was at least a LITTLE remedied in Sonic 06, though in the end a bigger bad ass ended up stealing his thunder, as usual. But still, at least he was genuinely going bad things.

Too bad the rest of the game sucked.

 

I agree that Eggman should become more menacing. He has become more bumbling since the old days. I'm not saying that I want the ONLY Sonic villain to be him because the Sonic Adventure series was interesting without Eggman as the last boss. His inability to keep Metal Sonic under his control in Sonic Heroes shows how inappropriately inept he has become. I also don't think that his role as main villain in a game be withdrawn because he was back stabbed by someone at the last minute; he's better than that.

 

Yeah, and didn't he and that princess bitch die because of some plot hole that caused his ship to crash?
