I somehow forgot about his incredible work with GG Aleste 3 alongside 3D OutRun, he’d be perfect for it. My apologies.

was just thinking Yuzo Koshiro because he worked on the theme music for the original Mini, and chibi-tech because her M2 original tracks have been fantastic.

EDIT: I just saw on Wikipedia that Manabu Namiki did the Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth rearrangements. Holy shit, those are incredible.

I don't think Manabu Namiki was involved in the recent Mini projects like Yuzo Koshiro was.The point is that anyone competent would be preferable than the crap we got in Origins. For Origins, if they were sticking with using indie guys for development, they had plenty of talent to pick.

Me? Big fan of Savaged Regime.

I'll also vouch preemptively for Manabu Namiki, though I might play it safer with Yuzo Koshiro. I definitely loved what Namiki could do in the past (see Battle Garegga for something Mega Drive-esque, yet fantastic), and that includes his time with Basiscape, but it's been so long that I'm not sure if he still has that energy anymore, not from what I've heard from really small projects, anyway. I should check out GG Aleste 3 myself, now that it's been brought up.

Koshiro, on the other hand, I know can still work magic with FM synth. In fact, I remember talking with friends about how I'm honestly shocked that he's never considered for any classic Sonic tunes. Like, ever. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't he make medleys for the Mega Drive/CD minis? How is it SEGA is aware enough to contract him for those and yet classic Sonic synth always falls into the hands of Senoue? There is no justice.

At the very least, Naofumi Hataya. I'm never sure if he's a full time employee at SEGA or what, but he seems underutilized. I know he was on Sonic Forces, and I assume a lot of people were take-it-or-leave-it on those, but I wonder if it's really any worse than Senoue, especially if he isn't pigeonholed.

Also, seeing Chimpo's post right now, I'd vouch for Savaged Regime as well, though I may prefer John "Joy" Tay just a little more if we're veering into the indyish space.

I was under the impression that it wasn't just the music itself, it was modifying the original ROM to do it that was causing them legal trouble (after all, the unmodified S3 and S&K ROMs were purchasable on Steam for years). The Origins S3&K is not a ROMhack, and uses not a single line of code from the original ROM, so they sidestepped it that way.

In fairness, I'm not sure the "hundreds of unmodified ROMs uploaded to the workshop for free" Genesis emulator on Steam is the best metric for measuring legality in this department.

I played Sonic Origins for the first time yesterday! Amy in S3&K. There were a couple moments in Sandopolis where I thought I should maybe not have been crushed, but otherwise everything felt like it was recreated flawlessly. The Launch Base Zone music sounded different but otherwise I didn't notice any changes there either. The new sprites looked great, and being able to spend coins to retry the bonus stages made all the difference, probably the first time I've ever gotten all the super emeralds.

3 year anniversary is coming up. We'll surely get those fixes this year! This collection will achieve it's intended greatness when that happens! :eng99:

Sega probably already lost the source code to this game

Nah, that's too much effort for Sega these days. They just let the community slap an "ultrafix" on it whike they sit back and collect the profits.

It's like fans literally outlined how to do easy fixes for several things like S3&K's tally making actual mathematical sense, but naaaaaaaaaaah, code is fickle, we at Sonic Team will probably just mess something else up again if we tried it. /s

I believe they should just make the cool bonus explicit in S3K. Who doesn't love getting a free 10K for not taking a hit?

I genuinely think that’s the best case scenario at this point. Ultrafix is a godsend for Origins and its only shortcoming is that it’s locked to PC. If I were John Sega, I’d give Team Ultrafix all the development resources they need in terms of source code and SDK and contract them to port their work to consoles. The lack of Ultrafix is the only thing standing between me and buying Origins on Switch.

As someone who first bought Origins on switch I hear you loud and clear.

I mean how much did Sega let even Origins S3&K's actual development team tamper with the Japan-based Sonic Team's code for the whole collection after initial release outside of suggestions, Plus work and stuff they already gave them? I don't know if mere very cool fan developers would fare any better.

Everything we know about Origins' development points to it being a troubled project, to say the least. This goes for the industry writ large too, but I tihnk a lot of this issues this series has historically run into could be easily avoided by operating the way Nintendo and its subsidiaries currently do - long dev cycles which don't see reveal until a few months out from launch. The most high profile examples of this have been Mario Wonder and Kart World, but even titles by other studios like Intelligent Systems' Fire Emblem Engage benefitted massively from a healthy dev cycle. All this to say that just give Team Ultrafix the time and money solely to port their existing changes to all platforms and I think that'd result in a revival of the collection's sales and a boost in goodwill towards SEGA. And sure, some curmudgeon is probably going to come in and tell me that this doesn't make much business sense for a three year old game, but I think the long term benefits for SEGA and the franchise's image would be worth it compared to some short term profit.

  17. All SEGA would learn from Nintendo to charge the earth for the most basic ports that add little new content, like we saw with Pikmin or The Legend of Zeld A Twilight Princess HD and worst still, look to hide content behind Amiibo
Prime 4 was announced in 2017 and still isn't out; Nintendo is not quite the wonderful, perfect corp people make them out to be.

Xbox leads the way with free next- gen patches and upgrades to their old games and even sends out codes for the ones who bought Gears Ultimate for a free download for the upcoming Gears Reloaded

Good grief my dude was getting banned from the CrossWorlds thread not enough to satisfy you?

  19. So people can take issue with Sonic and SEGA, but not Nintendo? . SEGA does more work on its remasters and HD collections than Nintendo and tends to price them more fairer and also unlike Nintendo does always look to lock up hackers of their games. So there are a number of things Im glad Sega doesn't learn from Nintendo. All that said.... Nintendo quality control is the best in the business and all gaming corps could learn from NCLs Q&A

What does Xbox have to do with Sonic Origins? Absolutely nothing. Stop trying to pick fights.
