Neither have you! Maybe it's not even worth five dollars! Who knows! Maybe the world will be made out of pudding! This is garbage rhetoric for a bad mindset. If game companies did not want people judging their games based on the information they're giving us, they wouldn't be giving us information. You would never be saying "wait till you play the game" for anyone who likes what they see, so just stop with this.

Have you like...read your own posts back to yourself? Clearly not or else you'd realise how absolutely legless your line of argument is. You're complaining that people criticising the game and its pricing are only doing so for the sake of bashing Sonic, but the only reason you're able to sustain this viewpoint is by actively ignoring evidence of this not being the case and selectively paying attention to only what lines up with your take. You absolute donkey.

Yeah, I was thinking things had improved when I was watching the gameplay myself, so having the comparison to confirm it is nice. Metal Harbour genuinely sounds pretty good now (though I don't think it'll have a patch on the original), and I can even give the benefit of the doubt that the choir may sound better in firsthand gameplay since right now it's just drowned out by everything else and pretty compressed for social media video. We're just over three months out, so I hope we start getting uploads of the music tracks soon for a proper listen. I'd definitely like to hear Rainbow Garden and Water Palace in better conditions.

It's times like these that I'm glad the game is also being released on Switch 1. You know, for reasons.

The rival system eases my concerns about a lack of a story mode pretty substantially, though I still wish there were more of a single-player campaign than the Grand Prix.

If + - Whisper’s   actually in, I hope the Jet and Shadow interactions are glorious.

The current state of the overall economy (bad) and the state of the overall game development industry is making $60 AAA-tier games rapidly untenable. With the production values and the variety of content shown, CrossWorlds is a modern AAA-tier game and likely has a budget to match.

The current state of the overall economy makes $70-80 video games less and less attainable for consumers. Spending is either going to fewer games per year or into freemium games.

Both of these are true. The real solution is to just build smaller and/or less lower production value games, but consumers have responded poorly to this so far. It's a terrible fence-sitter take but it's more or less the state of things. Nobody wins.

People are valid for being upset about $70/$80 and vocalizing their frustrations. People are also valid for thinking that we need to wait and see to understand the true value proposition here. Everything sure does suck right now!

Gaming is already a "luxury" hobby -- and, I wonder if AAA games will truly start to branch off into being the true high dollar items compared to other gaming.

Imagine a AAA Sonic title costing $80-90, whereas something like Sonic Mania 2 is $40. Just making up prices.

  8. It's the usual Sonic bashing and we see it time and time again, its wasn't so long ago people here were having a pop at the price of Sonic Origins and now its over the price of a racing game

Console game pricing do not do down during any economic crash, they didn't during the 90's in the USA or UK and didn't during the Global crash of 2008. In fact like I said if one looks to take into account Inflation console games prices in the Mega Drive and Snes era was over £100 per title you that era were some racing games had a handful of tracks and that's before one moves on the N64 games, never mind how SEGA looked to charge full price for the likes of Sonic R or Manx TT (with one track)

So spare us the donkey nonsense and deal with actual facts

At a guess, I would imagine it will have the same amount of content as Team Sonic Racing if not more and the game is coming in at the price range of most modern-day racing games like F1, Ect
and I've yet to play a SEGA racing game that features a single-player storyline, maybe you have?. I haven't, that has been more of a Codemasters thing, but I'm almost willing to bet you haven't bought GRID Legends

Your guesses aren't my prerogative. And I don't need to justify wanting a single-player campaign in a Sonic game, racing or otherwise. There's precedent for it, and like I already said, Sonic is primarily a single-player series, single player content is good, and stories provide structure to that content and an opportunity for fun character interactions. That hasn't stopped being true just because you ignored it.

It's futile to reason with Team Andromeda. He's just "consumes product and get excited for next products" kind of guy and dismisses any criticism as "bashing" for no reason. You are wasting time.

I'm curious if this pricing is another test like Superstars to see how high they can charge for a game and still move a lot of units. Superstars was famously $60 despite not having a lot of content and not being very pretty, which is why SEGA quickly discounted it to $40 and later $30 (which is how much more physical copies of the game cost now) and it's fortune picked up (even if SEGA was still disappointed overall with how it did)

If this can move a million units in 2 to 3 days like Shadow Generations at $70 - $90 that will show hardcore fans are willing to buy at that price. If it doesn't, I expect a discount sooner rather than later. Considering Mario Kart World sold millions at $80 and the sales of Madden, Call of Duty, and Zelda weren't slowed down by hitting $70, I'm really curious how this will play out given how many Sonic fans are extremely dedicated.

  12. There hasn't been a single player story mode in Sonic racing games, so where you get this precedent from I don't know .

And everyone knows Sonic and Mario are cash cows and you'll see no major discounting being done to any of their spin off games on the consoles not mater how much content or how big the team working on them.

In fact talking of Sonic , let's all remember what SEGA looked to charge for Sonic 3 on the Mega Drive well over 60 dollars in the USA and over 50 quid here In the UK which in today's money is over 100 bucks and that's despite having half it's cotent cut

YES THERE HAS??? All three Riders games, both Rivals games and Team Sonic Racing, which I already mentioned, have single player story campaigns! Are you a government psyop??? Do you actually know anything about the series you're talking about???

None of that makes any difference or matters at all. You are grasping at straws here.

I'm legitimately kind of in awe at this point. Do you have some kind of psychological disorder that makes you act this way? I legitimately want to know because at a certain point I'm starting to feel bad about dunking on your posts, I don't want to antagonize neurodivergent people even if I still think you need to shut up.

Team Sonic Racing literally has a story mode complete with cutscenes. You have to complete unique missions to progress, and can select from various difficulties. ASR and ASRT have similar, minus the cutscenes. The Wii U version of ASRT even suffered a game breaking bug at launch because a mandatory campaign mission had the timer set impossibly low.

And if you go beyond just the Sonic Racing series, there's also Riders and Rivals. Like what the hell are you even talking about right now?

Am I the only one that doesn't care about a story mode in a racing game? I just want the racing to be fun.

It was a fun addition to actually have a story to play through in the game that has a dedicated story mode. The Sonic series benefits so much from character interactions and some casual storytelling, even in spin-offs. But with out without ab story, I have to honest and say that the campaign mode structure of all the Sumo Digital Sonic racing games were real highlights. People have been raving about Mario Kart DS's Misson Mode for years and I'm like "Sonic's been doing the same thing but better all this time".

Here is an interview with some of the game's developers that has a lot of interesting points in it regarding design, how the game was conceived, the open beta, etc. Most importantly to me, they've adjusted the item balance:

I see people are still making the same mistake that Retro did years back by mistranslating Masaru Kohayakawa's name as "Ken Kobayakawa", lol

I was already thinking that items seemed less aggressive in new gameplay but wasn't sure if that was just as a result of being curated, so it's heartening to have it confirmed. Hopefully the complaints about game feel have also been addressed. While I'm still pretty bummed about SEGA's continued insistence on trying to nickel-and-dime us with digital deluxe crap, I no longer have any worries about the base game experience in light of thsi - roll on September!
