All the complaining about $70 for this is a bit baffling, considering this looks much higher quality (and definitely a much larger budget production) than Team Sonic Racing, which was $50 and honestly not even worth that much imo. What did you honestly expect?
Remember folks, video games are still cheaper than they were pre-CD/DVD. The trend towards higher cost games this time around is definitely due to inflating production costs and production team sizes, so anyone who just says its out of pure greed (at least in the case for $70 games, not sure on $80) sounds a bit oblivious to how radically different game development is now compared to the PS3/360 era days of $60 being standard.

Forgot to mention, the website added some new tracks as well. In addition to the already-confirmed Apotos, we're getting Sand Road from TSR back, along with Mystic Jungle from Forces and a new track called Colorful Mall. Dragon Road and Holoska have also been added to the list of CrossWorlds.

Probably gonna buy this off PSN and split the price with the wife since we use game share.

  4. I feel like this is a bad comparison. This game you're showing off is an indie, not one by a major, big-budget studio.

There are a lot of reasons I wouldn't trust a new NiGHTS game but what does this have to do with anything? You make it sound like he's Victor Salva or something.

I fear a weird discussion is about to come evolving into something has nothing to do with the thread.

I'm curious about how Roger's gonna voice Sonic the Werehog (Who I'm excited is back, but bummed he's a pre-order bonus. Hopefully that changes). He has voiced an ton of characters, but I can't recall anyone at the top of my head that would give an idea of how he'd probably sound. It would be wild SEGA got Griffith to reprise the Werehog, but I know that ain't happening.

So anyways, that's why NiGHTS is my waifu and husbando at the same time and why we should eat the rich.

He voices Arkham Batman occasionally, so yeah he can do Werehog. If you can do Batman, you can do Werehog

Extremely disappointed about the pricing, but it's looking more and more like I'm waiting on this one anyway. The game is gonna be jam-packed with content by the looks of it, even if you don't buy any DLC, but I'm getting a strong impression that there's no room for a single player campaign here. I mean the leakers said as much, but I don't take them directly at their word (one of them said Miku wasn't in the game). I was hoping for even a basic story but it's definitely resembling ASR and Transformed enough that I think it's following their mold rather than contributing anything new to the series' chronology.

Now (most of) these guests I can get behind. Though at a certain point I wonder if they should've just brought back the "& All-Stars" angle. If we're seriously getting tracks for the guests but not the SEGA reps, that's wack. Like a Dragon even had a kart racing minigame, let us cruise through Ijincho. :colbert:

Also, I hadn't considered Roger having to voice the werehog. I cannot wait to hear that. :V

I think it's a guarantee that Werehog will be available for everyone eventually. I think every Sonic game from at least 2017 onward (if not earlier) has made their preorder stuff available a few months later, discounting those that were just extra consumables. No way they don't release a whole ass character that they can potentially make a buck or two on.

Actually, now that I think of it, is the season pass the only way to get the paid DLC? Because even though the 70 dollar base still sucks, filling out your personal roster with only Sonic and SEGA by purchasing them individually doesn't sound so bad.

$70 sounds right... for the full package, that comes with 6 or so on-demand extra race tracks and like 15 or something characters for the extra $20. But they want that for the base game, and $96 for EVERYTHING, on top of whatever your console's subscription service is if you want to play online - and the seeming cause of this would be the cost of the storage medium physical games are on going up, which is... something you can't do for the DIGTIAL DELUXE edition, so they're upcharging you for something they're paying WAY LESS to distribute, with the added spit-in-your-face of the Nintendo Switch edition of all versions getting a discount.

Don't get me wrong. This game is *huge* for your standard racing game. but games with more general content and more assets to create are priced less. The worst part is it almost feels too late to go back on since the Playstation pre-orders are up-front payment likely with no refund option, and they didn't bother to listen to anyone asking for upgrade paths for Sonic Generations Switch to Switch 2, so that's a mess.

Previous Sonics with Digital Deluxe and extended content that gets offered separately are usually just cheaper to get the Digital Deluxe upgrade from there. since this one has an actual roadmap, idk if they'll offer that so you could theoretically go for the base version as a pre-order for Werehog then get everything else through that upgrade later when it was more relevant.

Thank you for proving my point exactly about being oblivious.

That's effectively an indie game made by like, what, 30 people on a rather low budget by modern game development standards. It's an excellent game, mind you, but using it as evidence of anything is nonsensical.

SRCW most likely has, at minimum, 5 times the staff working on it, plus a significantly larger budget, with licensing involved, with a much more prominent marketing cycle. There's a much larger cost incurred going on here.

As long as the game actually has the quality and content to justify the full $70 price, then that's fine.

I mean, how is this any different than any game since the PS3/360 era? CoD + DLC packs were far more than this ($110 for everything), and even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could get super pricey with all the DLC ($85).

As long as the base game has sufficient content, there's literally nothing wrong with a season pass.
