Oh, well even with that, I expect Mufasa to win. I guess Sonic has his rabid fanbase that will buy and watch almost anything day one on his side, but Mufasa has the legacy of Lion King behind it and one of Disney's best years in a long time going for it. Will be interestng.

Oha-"you" is a pun often used by anime characters, if I'm not mistaken. Or maybe something they mispronounce on purpose because they think it's cool. Like a dialect or something. I can live with that.

I'm more concerned about the infamous "What is this place?" line. I'll deduct points for every time I hear a character say it.

I'm more interested in the Robotniks dancing around in skin tight spandex than the models taken from an older game to make SA2 look older than it is

 

Okay I know I'm a week late on this, but:

My shot in the dark guess is that they're going to do both. CD and 06 are both time travel stories. The films remix game plots and elements however they see fit, so they can mix elements of both for one story. Shadow is probably the last character who has enough hype by himself, so bringing in three new faces could make up the difference.

 

I don't care for the song at all but idk I thought the video was nice lol. Low-poly models are more visually striking and look more 'video-gamey' than the SA2 models would. Nothing will ever beat Tripod Baby though

Studios get a far bigger cut from our domestic market than international. It's also a lot easier to track performance in the US than internationally. A lot more data to munch on when discussing film grosses.

 

It makes sense from a design perspective, and matches literally every other character in the series. And iirc Sega even held a survey about it and most people think Sonic has blue arms in the first place. Sonic with blue arms is just very natural, and the only people who care that much about tan arms... Well we know how that went down.

 

The argument is and always has been that tan arms make his animations more readable.

What speaks against having Sonic stand out against the other characters?

(Blue arms are fine, though I think tan arms are better. More visually separates the character into parts for maximum clarity. I'm also in the Pro-Tan-Eyelids Camp.)

 

I'm not saying tan arms are invalid or serve no purpose. I'm just providing points in favour of blue arms. I could go either way. And my last statement was in reference to people who are strictly against blue arms, which in 2024 really doesn't seem like many, fortunately.

I think for the longest time most people have associated the blue arms with bootleg stuff and animation errors, I could really go either way I think both options are fine honestly. I guess blue arms kind of look like he's wearing pyjamas lol

From a design point of view I get wanting to keep his arms a separate colour from the rest of his body, I'm sure a lot of characters were designed with this mentality.

Other than China, that rarely even allows movies from outside it's country to be released anymore, the United States is still the biggest movie market in the world.

That's why there's always a big focus on those numbers. Alone they sometimes make up the worth of 3 or 4 other countries box office gross.

Not saying it's right or wrong just saying how it is.

 

Yeah if you look up the top 10 highest grossing films (non-adjusted), the average amount the US market brings in is about 37%. One market vs the entire world. That's huge. Click on any one of these films and scroll down to the performance. No one comes close.

US distributors absolutely bully exhibition when it comes to revenue split so they walk way with far more money from the ticket sales over here than they would elsewhere. Especially in markets like China where their were some funny accounting going on.

China use to be an attractive market everyone was chasing after before the pandemic because of how massive the audience was over there. Any funny money they would get back would still be worth pursuing. US market is a juggernaut, easier to control and track, and they get a bigger piece of the pie. It gets far more attention for those reasons.

 

Mufasa is a Disney movie, after all. Lasseter said it himself back in the 90s.
