If they'd look at least in same quality of Shadow Gens or next to it, I'd want to be honest.

I really can't bring it in me to care that they changed Generations' script considering just how bland and forgettable it is. It has a handful of good lines and they seem to have kept those going by the cutscenes I saw. The only thing that bothers me about it is that the new dialogue animations are lazily inserted but beyond that, big meh.

Forces has some really bad writing though, I absolutely would not mind someone try their hand at rewriting it. If there's a chance of improving on it, I say take it.

Yeah, I think the animation are more of a issue than the writting itself, in my opinion.

  4. Just do a full rewrite...don't patchwork it.

It's literally not worth the effort to do anything less.

Yeah, if they were going to change it, then commit to the bit. I'm more annoyed that they wasted their time on something so useless.

It's not even fun like when Symphony of the Night got a full script rewrite for the PSP collection.

So I've played the game, but not yet beaten it. About 3-4 acts in before I take the time to really marathon it more tonight.

It's much more generations than forces, thankfully. Better controls than Frontiers, but more scripted highly polished setpiece stages with at least 'some' branching pathways. Less than Generations proper, more than unleashed/Colors/Forces...

It's... a great companion piece to the original game, no more no less. If you thought boost gameplay was boring and shallow, you won't change your mind here. If you love the rush and experience of it? The presentation and vibe you get from this game is as good as the original, perhaps even more flashy in some ways.

This is not Classic gameplay. It's not adventure gameplay. But these are the best boost stages since Generations, for me at least. The younger crowd will love the hell out of this entire package, and that's great. I'll enjoy it as a nice thing to replay every so often, and for plugging some of the lore holes my teenage self wondered about back in the day.

Whatever we all say about it, I suspect this title will do quite well. It has massive hype behind it, and it's a fun game, deep or not. It's generations for a new generation.

So apparently this is not a glitch, just bad game design. Near the end of Sunset Heights you can homing attack into Doom's Eye. I apparently just ran past him and beat the level. If you don't do this, the game will not let you get the last Doom Power until you replay Sunset Heights and attack Doom's Eye. Lol okay. Would've at least been nice if the game told me to beat him in Sunset Heights instead of the "Doom Zone".

Holy shit the Mephiles boss fight is so underwhelming lol, I feel kinda bad for his legion of simps but it’s also so funny that one of the most glazed villains in the series gets a new boss fight and it’s just him throwing minions at you while force you to use the game’s worst power-up, not to mention him whining tirades that would make Infinite blush.

Anyway, I think the most underwhelming thing for me is having Shadow visit places he hasn’t been to yet or at all and barely acknowledging it. I thought they were going to do something interesting with Shadow going into the future and I thought I’d made a hard read with my prediction that Chaos Island would be used to link the Black Arms to the Ancients which I honestly think would’ve been a great Ian Flynn thing to do (though I’m sure people would’ve still found a way to bitch about it), but nope. Black Doom himself also does nothing interesting.

It’s times like this that I think really show how Ian being beholden to a different scenario writer (I think Iizuka here as well as in Frontiers?) really hamstrings his potential, because while this game does have great dialogue and emotional beats (Shadow crying at losing Maria and Gerald again is so damn satisfying in the context that Sonic isn’t allowed to), the plot itself doesn’t take any of the engaging twists or turns I’d expect from a Flynn-penned story.

It’s hard to be too upset though, because I think this game achieved what I feel a lot of us wanted it to, that being the rerailment of Shadow’s character away from a Vegeta pastiche something more rounded and complex. I’m actually intrigued to see what he does next in a way that I don’t think I’ve ever been outside the Archie comics.

I’ve got more thoughts about the gameplay itself but the story stuff was more pressing for me to talk about.

Pretty funny that you can unlocks Sonic Gens music in a game that comes packaged with Sonic Gens.

The game gave me a map marker at Sunset Heights and a new "objective" popped up in the Act Select screen. It clued me in that I had to do something there. Once I remembered Doom Eye was in the stage I put two and two together and hit him.

Not saying this as an excuse, just telling you what I experienced and for anyone else that's lost.

The line about Blaze remembering Crisis City is still there, BTW.

I'm glad people like it. I loved Generations when it came out. But I just have better games to play. Currently playing through Metaphor. Shadow Gens is doing some new things but it just looks like Boost as always. Nothing really wrong with that. It is a companion to Sonic Gens. But I don't particularly care for it either. I'm not buying it because I just don't really care. The 2011 standards in Boost game design just isn't enough for me anymore. I'll pick it up on a sale though and will probably enjoy it.

I think my problem was that I didn't remember Doom's Eye appeared in that level at all, so I was just confused.

I am so happy this isn't a thing and I hope it never becomes a thing lol
the fan tendency to want everything connected is very fun while you're doing it but in the end just leaves you with a room without oxygen. what's next, dodonpa and the wisps are also related, since everything alien is?

    Sure, why not?

The Black Arms are a warmongering race. The Ancients were peaceful but jacked the fuck out. I expected something like Black Doom saying "we tried to take them on, we thought they were weak, but they fucked our shit up, Shadow".

In a game where Radical Highway is used like five times because of what's certainly the symbolic connection of being Shadow's first level (which im down with, even if i would prefer Westopolis or the Black Comet), it's weird that there is no explanation for Chaos Island besides the functionally but thematically empty reason that White Space would obviously include the future and it'd be neat to have it.

It doesn't have to be groundbreaking lore but there was an opportunity for a fun little tidbit.

That was my favorite boss fight because of how Shadow just outright beats his ass during the actual boss fight and in the cutscene segments. Mephiles is not anywhere in the same class combat wise as Shadow at this point, and that was hella cool on a visual level.

I don't even get why people are upset at his new voice.

He sounded like a drunken and unintimidating moron in '06, he sounds like a drunken and unintimidating moron here.

... Anyone know where the first 2 collectibles are in Kingdom Valley Act 1? I'm starting to feel like an idiot after my 4th run.

I liked his DAN GREEN YUGI MOTOH original voice, but the guy has long since retired from voice acting. Him whining about wanting back into the canon was about all the reverence he needed.

But yeah, great side story with great missions! That said, the last level is pretty nasty to S Rank under certain conditions. They removed the perfection bonus but you basically still have to be to pull it off. But I got em.

There's still so much more to do too. Screw the regular game, Shadow's side is way more fun

When you get to this point (after the 3 rope jumps that leads to the button that drops down the rope), jump to the lone eagle statue on the right side and take the wind stream. It'll lead you to a tunnel that will then launch you into the first collectible.

    Collectible 1.jpg
In the Doom Surf section, (after you make the turn around the mountain after crossing the dam), stay on your right and trigger the eagle statue to get the collectible floating in mid air
