It really should work the reverse way.. tap to dribble the ball, hold to press it down. Just makes sense.

But it's not like the "bounce" in Frontiers is really a bounce anyways. It's more like an awkward auto-jump that restomps if you continue to hold down the button. Really bizarre.

  2. You can do this with the spin dash in Frontiers by cancelling stomp into it and it’s great, movement feels so much smoother when you don’t have to immediately press boost on landing from a stomp and it’s useful for chaining slope launches

Ah well, maybe someone will mod in some more Sonic-like spines for him. Can't really complain, it's still a cool skin and I hope we see more proto skins like Venice for Silver or whatever shadow demon Blaze was gonna be.

Whoever made the model should have asked for another reference. It looks like they saw the forward facing art and forgot what depth was. That's ugly AF.

I think y'all are forgetting that Yuji Uekawa still works at Sega. He was almost certainly consulted on the design, so he must've approved every choice made on the skin.

Those pieces of concept art which depict him with more Sonic-esque quills clearly are a different design altogether, while all art of Terios specifically does depict him with the Knuckles-style quills.

So from this full stream of the PAX demo, it seems like the options screen in Sonic Generations allows you to turn back on the original lives system should you feel the need. Nice that they've given players the option rather than just straight up removing it.

I think hopping on board a competing headcanon train in a bid for speculative authority is pretty silly when we have the art we do have; Uekawa was the one who made the homage to the Terios' knife-holding concept art with the fully-rendered art for Sonic seen above. Did he "Get it wrong" back then, using a clearly different design intended for something completely incompatible with the design of Sonic, of all things? We're citing his presumed involvement now in the present day as if to say "What is he, chopped suey?" as if that doesn't apply in the exact same way in reverse for how he used it in his existing work.

BOTH Hoshino and Uekawa are still at Sonic Team, both of whom worked on Shadow's concept art. That doesn't mean they were consulted or worked on the model to the extent people are claiming, and similarly, claiming all forward facing views exclusively as "They're a different design" while ignoring how they're accompanied with side-views drawn with the exact same details and shading, as if on the exact same page of the artbook, is a BIT much to buy into. I also saw someone suggest how the four fully-rendered pieces of concept art ultimately represent how the character was "supposed" to look as a finished concept, before immediately getting egg in their face when they found out there were two other fully-rendered pieces of Terios artwork, with the one featuring the exact same design as on the sheet, but from the side with Sonic quills.

There are 10 pieces of concept art from the front "with knuckles-style quills", 9 pieces of concept art from the side or other angles with Sonic style quills. Many of those Sonic style quills are iterative on the designs drawn from the front, or have the exact same design, and there are no instances of the more dynamic art showcasing what we have now. The only people suggesting that these forward-facing pieces of art represent completely different designs are the people who believe that the perspective is wholly incompatible with the Sonic-style quills. As Uekawa showed with his finished Sonic art, that was not the case, and the very clear ties between the designs and their more dynamic showcases makes the position feel fairly disingenuous. Even with the rendered stripes-on-quills concept from the front, you can see the bump that makes the larger, higher spine that is showcased in his skating artwork.

    around 10:46 I actually laughed.

They literally have a slider basically asking if you want the game to have momentum or not. I actually can’t with Sonic Teams sometimes. Lol

I mean, that’s one way to do it.

That's actually a very neat option to have. Don't see the issue here.

It’s not an issue. It’s just a little funny to me that they’re still doing a little of the thing where, “Well WE don’t know how you want Sonic to control soooooo you just figure it out.”

I do notice it is not as extensive as Frontiers though. And the general control does look it feels pretty nice.

One thing in the back of my mind is if they somehow were collecting data from Frontier’s configurations to see what people like to find some middle ground.

I don’t have any basis for thinking that. And I imagine people probably aren’t a fan of the idea of any data being collected even though that 100% does happen. I just think it would be the smart thing to do.

Also, if the reception of the controls of things like SRB2 or even the boost game’s controls are anything to go by, I don’t think momentum is something that people actually want in 3D Sonic, at least not casual players. At least not in the air.

Though it doesn’t appear to affect control in the air.

honestly, I just want the momentum of a stomp to carry into going down a sloped surface, that would be so much fun.

As awesome as that would be, there is no point to that in a game with a mechanic that puts you at maximum speed with the press of a button.
