Don't take my post as "I'm not a furry but", but I hate this c̶e̶n̶s̶o̶r̶s̶h̶i̶p̶ design change. "Hide your children, a cartoon bat has her back exposed!", I get it, but this look terrible, as if her wings are clipping through her clothes

I've only seen the clips floating around on social media, but my opinion so far is it feels like a downgrade to change a tongue-in-cheek line about Chemical Plant's infamous mega mack and replace it with generic exposition.

Sonic Generation's plot is nothing to write home about, but I feel like its cheesiness was part of the charm. Guess I'll see soon how other scenes are handled.

    I didn't notice that. I wasn't paying attention.

Strange, it's not that way in dark beginnings.

A genuine oversight on this likely new model? I don't know what she looked like in Forces.

I'll say that I'm not a huge fan of re-writing Sonic Generations at all. I understand that it's plot and dialogue wasn't particularly great most of the time or anything, but I'd prefer they just leave it as is; not just because I doubt any new dialogue makes the overall story any better (without adding all new cutscenes), but also because... well, it just doesn't *feel* right, you know? Especially if they change some of my favorite lines. "Scramble some Eggmen, Super Sonic Style!" is cheesy and so Pontaff, but I've always liked it in this case. And I swear, if they change "Enjoy your future, it's gonna be great!", I will be very upset; the ending/credits of Gens has always made me emotional and that line is a huge part of that.

As for the changes we've actually seen so far, things aren't looking good lol. The Chemical Plant end scene is really not an improvement (could argue it's worse actually), and the Knuckles scene really feels like they had to squeeze the added dialogue to make it fit the already made scene (also not a fan of changing the VAs from OG Gens, but I understand it's the easy choice if they really have to re-record and re-write the game). All that being said though, I'm willing to wait to see the whole thing before really making any judgement calls. There definitely is a chance a re-write could make some things better and fit better with the whole of canon (especially what comes after Gens), even if what we've seen so far doesn't exactly seem to do that.

I was going to say I fully support Ian doing what he always wanted to for Generations, but I just saw how they were executed using the same animations and... oh... oh I hope it gets better...

  8. I'm kind of getting a kick out of the reactions to the changes here; this series is never going to ever satisfy anyone is it lmao.

Anyway, Generations has such a nothing story to begin with that I genuinely can't bring myself to care that much. Sucks if you liked the original, but this isn't anything new with this franchise. That said, I do agree that the changes weren't really necessary and are kind of awkwardly done to tie into Shadow Generations. They really should have at least remastered the cutscenes in the same way they did for the Shadow Gens portion of the game to make it more cohesive overall.

Sonic not interacting with any of the cast was weird, but now they're dubbing over that with dialogue that very clearly wasn't supposed to be there. It's incredibly awkward. I'm also surprised they just redubbed all of the cutscenes; makes sense, the original VAs for Tails, Knuckles, Espio, Blaze, and Silver aren't available anymore, or in Amy's case, her voice direction nowadays is completely different from what it was in 2011.

rather than making a trash post i'm gonna say some words
while i get not liking the dialogue it reads as though everyone here is spending too much energy on backlash towards the changes. they're incredibly minor. the original dialogue wasn't very meaningful to begin with

I'm not against the rewriting of the game entirely if this was a new version of Sonic Generations. Which i recognise it kind of is. Although I do find it funny that the major changes ive seen so far are examples of Flynn throwing needless references in. The problem is that the original Generations is delisted and this 'version' is all you can play now.

@Overlord is right. Imagine if SA2 was rewritten, rereleased with new Metal Sonic scenes shoved awkwardly in the main game, then the old game delisted. It would be pretty funny to imagine. 'I found you faker.' 'Woah, I haven't fought an enemy like since I was last on Little Planet!' Lol. Tbh, I can actually imagine loads of Sonic fans loving that which is pretty sad in itself.

this is like... totally not the case. the dialogue in that game is iconic and in service of its narrative, any changes like such are going to stick in the minds of anyone that remembers sa2 even slightly. this game dedicated its dialogue to nostalgia and humor

  12. This is a game that is literally about celebrating the past; reference dialogue is the most fitting thing for this game if we're being completely honest here.

It IS awkwardly done, that much I'll admit, but that's it.

  13. It’s really a shame that most of Flynn’s time with the series beyond the comics is being defined by retcons and exposition that commonly relies on references.

  14. This was literally his first couple of years with Archie; retconning shit from the previous writers.

Can’t say I care that much about any dialogue changes in this game considering the original game’s script was nothing to write home about

The changes probably wasn't necessary, yeah, but I doubt people really cared about the original dialogue either. I would understand the reactions if they were good in first place, but it's just meh. I'm not trying to defend the quality of it here, tho'. But like... as for now, it doesn't feel the worst thing of the world yet. At worst, it's just weird.

I will say the the "go Sonic, you can do it, Sonic!" with the Time Eater cutscene could be a good change, tho'. It's the only part of Sonic Generations that I GENUILY don't like and it feels cringe. Yes, the fanbase overreact saying Sonic Generations writting sucks, when it's "just ok" but the motivation cutscene from endgame I will have to agree is lame.

And I like I said, there's some really high quality animation from these new cutscenes. It feels way more polished and in-par with Sonic Unleashed. Not 100% sure it's Sonic or Shadow Generations, tho'.

  17. Not accusing anyone or anything, but the vibe I get from these reactions is less about the changes themselves, and more being upset at the meaning behind them and being mad that the series isn't treating itself like a meme anymore.

And like... I don't know what to tell y'all. Its weird to complain about changes being made to appease people complaining... when the changes made for the 2010 games were literally created for the same exact reason.

So like... maybe we should focus on the games themselves as they are and not drawing imaginary lines in the sand over this stuff.

Because yea, I do think these changes are unnecessary and pretty awkward, but even if you did like the original game for what it was, I think we can agree the script or "story" wasn't really the main selling point of the game to begin with.

To be honest, I didn’t like the Pontac and so on scripts. I’m kind of okay with this. The original script was unfulfilling.
I get not wanting changes though.

  19. True that’s probably where his fixer mentality came from but in the case of Archie he didn’t have much of a choice but to unmangle what it became.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really mad or anything, and I won't be losing sleep no matter what changes.* It's not that a big deal regardless, especially since I doubt most of the changes will be bad enough to dent the experience (especially especially considering the OG story/script wasn't something to write home about).

*Except, as I mentioned in my last post, "Enjoy your future, it's gonna be great!". It's such an earnest line that I can't help but get emotional about it when I get to it. If that changes, I will genuinely be unhappy.
