    >flash game
    You're making me feel old

  2. Shinobi got that flash type look that so many modern day takes on 2D games got like Battletoads, Streets Of Rage Ect.
I so much rather look of Blazing Chrome for retro style 2D and it's a shame that for modern day 2D graphics Rayman Legends is still the best take and it years old

None of those games you listed look like flash games.

  4. Didn't we already have this conversation when these games were first announced?

Hell, we've been having that conversation since Streets of Rage 4 was first shown. It's fine to not like the Lizardcube style, but "flash" as some kind of knock against it is always a good sign to stop paying attention to the person saying it. Just being frank. It was silly then and is silly now.

Can’t believe that I didn’t grow up with the mythical flash games that looked like Shinobi and SOR4. Seriously, go back to old flash games if you believe they looked like Lizardcube’s output. Honestly just an incredibly dismissive and insulting statement to make to the artists involved with Shinobi and SOR4.

Reminds me of how, regardless of the actual fidelity involved, people LOVE to use "looks like a PS2 game" to knock the graphics for a lot of games, when most of the games being called that would definitely not be possible on actual PS2 hardware. The PS2 WISHES it could have looked like some of the games being used for such comparisons!

People need to really stop using such exaggerated comparisons to knock a game's art style. You can describe why you dislike a game's art style without making it seem like you didn't actually grow up in the era of the thing you're comparing it to (making the comparison meaningless). I've done it in the past, I'm sure, but I'm trying to be a better critic.

The art style personally doesn't do it for me, because hand-drawn animation simply isn't really what I'm looking for when I'm playing a video game. My preference is detailed, 3D graphics and textures. Or cellshaded and anime styled, IF done properly (like some of the DBZ games or like the HoYoVerse games). I can appreciate sprite work too, but usually, nothing below 32-bit graphics. I'm honestly a bit of an art snob, but at least I admit it.

Crazy Taxi looks like dumb fun, as it should. Super early days so I have high hopes for it.

Shinobi looks stunning, I love how the characters animate with rough, sketchy line art.

  9. It's just for that Alien Hominid look to it and that's been the case for some many modern days 2D style games .

The other disappoing aspect is Shinobi is one IP that really could be a made into a AAA 3D super game and take on the likes of Ninja Gaiden , DMC and Bayonetta.

Crazy Taxi on the other hand is looking like it's got so much potential and looking so fun even at this early stage even with terrible quality footage . Just worry if will holds one interest more for 20 mins or so play like the earlier games , what we do great to kill a few boring minutes before food ogoing out or to work

I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you that upset when this game is not super detailed 3D environment you were hoping for? Keep in mind they are indie developers. They don't have the luxury of to create AAA games like the big three companies do.

Lizard Cube's games are all unique hand drawn frames on paper, no vector tweening at all. There is no motion interpolation. It's also not done with splines, it's actual old-school style comic book inking done by hand with a pen. It's the complete, exact opposite of flash animation, it's the most painstaking kind of human animation you can get.

The only thing this kind of art shares in common with flash animations is that many flash animations use two tone coloring... which is because most animation PERIOD uses two-tone coloring, and that dates back to the 1940s.

Nothing about Lizard Cube looks anything like flash animations. You're confusing that sometimes really good flash animations approach actual hand drawn animation quality, not the other way around.

Here, let me remind you what Flash animations looked like, and this was a GOOD flash animation from the era:

  12. Not upset . Not happy with the look , but I can put up with that as long as the game plays well , just like with Shinobi on the Saturn.

I would have liked SEGA to have allower Shinobi to have the 3D AAA treatment over Golden Axe myself...

I'm not going to cry since SEGA is giving us a new AAA Jet Set Radio game

Next people gonna say Hollow Knight looks like a flash game because it's no pixelart game.

    Long-term happiness
Shinobi would be far, FAR less appealing to me than it currently is if they were going for the AAA-trash route.

Hollow Knight is a great example of how it this *DOESN'T* look like a Flash game because Hollow Knight is a remake of sorts of a Flash game, Hungry Knight. So you can directly compare what it looks like to a flash-version, and it's night and day difference.

  17. And it does, along with the likes of Wonderboy remakes & sequels

Warhammer 40,000 reminds me of Doom and I remember many games being called Doom clones that had completely different art directions and run on totally different engines

Little disingenuous to the work some developers put into their AAA games, but I guess that is the trending now.
I'm rather happy with the likes of Star Wars, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Bansishers: Ghost Of New Eden Astrobot and Space Marine 2 is rather good too , but also loved AA games like What Lies Beneath & Cocoon so far this year.

More looking forward to SEGA's AAA Jet Set Radio & Golden Axe compared to Shinobi TBH. but I'll give Shinobi a go, hope for the best and hopefully, it be on the cheap side too.

You doing this yourself is literally what began this derail.

Which is what it is now, a derail, as so much of your post has nothing to do with anything this thread is about. We're moving back on topic now.

  20. I only responding to the point being made about AAA trash To paint all AAA games as trash is disingenuous & unfair and at a guess SEGA's big 3D AAA upcoming games will get the most coverage and what will make or break SEGA's new initiative, rather than an AA 2D game, but we'll see...
