Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

The most pointless part of the Sonic 2 movie wasn't the wedding, it was the "pivonka" stuff.

 

But that was one of most fun parts...

 

I disagree. The "pivonka" part served to strengthen the bond between Sonic and Tails.

 

It also served as a callback to the first movie in that the bar scene was where Sonic and Tom began to form a bond. Instead of it breaking out into a massive brawl it turns into a wholesome dance contest. It was definitely for kids though.

 

I know it was meant to strengthen their bond, and it worked, but I still think it dragged on for too long. I can see I'm in the minority here, though, so I'll just shut up now.

Both scenes are pretty poor. The wedding scene contributes very little to the plot and features characters nobody was really invested in. The Uptown Funk dance scene was an attempt to hyper-accelerate Sonic & Tails friendship since they didn't want to give up any real estate on other scenes (like the wedding..) to make room for it.

All this ties pretty amusingly to how little they used Tails in that movie. He gets introduced, he and Sonic become friends in the dance scene, he gets knocked out in the mountains, and spends the events between there and the final act in a coma. That part after the wedding where Tom and Maddie are standing there talking about the ethics of what the GUN guys are doing while Tails is lying limp slightly out of frame.. I don't think they intended that to be the funniest part of the movie, but me and the people I saw it with were losing our shit at it.

 

It dragging on for too long is a different opinion than it being pointless. One I don't think I disagree with.

 

I was fine with the first half of the wedding scene, but I agree later it gets boring. But once Sonic starts begin the focus again, this return getting awesome.

 

Watching the trailer, what stood out most to me was the musical ques of Green Hill and Live and Learn. I want to believe that these could be used somewhere in the movie, but then I'm reminded that Sonic Movie 2 used Emerald Hill in their trailers, but never featured in the final release. At least Movie 1 had the piano Green Hill rendition.

 

Johnny Gioeli confirmed that Live and Learn was licenced to be used within the actual movie like months ago. We're not being teased by trailers here.

 

It plays in the background of the donut shop while Donut Lord is doing his donut run in a throwaway scene. Junkie XL will use the Funimation score for Sonic X as the inspiration for the climax of the movie.

 

I love how it was firstly confirmed on some's random DM.

I really want this to go with the Sonic 2 one. That’s being re-released in a Movie 3 box but the pics I’ve seen his eyes are not right. There’s a gap between the eyes and mouth area.

Mine must have been one of the best to come out. Others I’ve seen are tiny bit squished looking. I might take some pics because he looks so good. I love him.

I’ll say it again why not do a Tails and Knuckles like this?!

 

I kinda hated Tails' whole part and felt like it was unbelievable pretty much entirely, but they wrote themselves into a corner with that ending scene, but I don't really have a problem with that section of the movie in particular. I can't really imagine what would be in its place.

 

Nothing beats the G.U.N. Wedding (obvious answer i know) an horrible way to introduce the organization. Even made the stupid mistake of making it a new thing, that they needed to backtrack in a wonky way starting with the Knuckles series to fit with the third movie's plot, i assume.

Still I'd say was a good call making Tom a member now, makes him closer to the franchise I'd say.

 

The Dance fight would have been so much better if the song was "It doesn't Matter" instead of Uptown Funk.

 

It wouldn't fit with the mood of the scene. At best, a Sonic R song would suit better.

 

honestly i liked the uptown funk haha its one of my favorite songs

the girl i went with to see the movie tho hated bruno mars so she was kinda upset about it lol

 

I just rolled my eyes at the music choice but frankly I'd rather that than a Sonic song. It made more sense in the moment. The actual Sonic songs should be reserved for important scenes i.e final fights. Or even just little easter eggs, I liked that Tom's ring tone was Green Hill, that's fun. But a dance off would not be it.
