Sonic Superstars: A New 2D Sonic Game (Fall 2023)

Allow me to say then that Tails' looks dead-eyed. I think his face is too rounded, and the double-shine in his eyes ain't doing him any favours either.

That Eggman render is perfect though.

 

So wonderful to see the original Sonic 1 eggpod back in action.

He's not usually drawn with them. But regardless, he looks strange to me in the render for Superstars.

 

Man, this may a bit off topic but I just had to point it out. I was reading the comment sections (never a good idea) on some Nintendo websites for articles on Sonic Superstars. Those commenters give Mario a bad name. So much vitriol directed at Sonic and this game. Crazy. I swear most of them are probably ten years old.

But, back on topic. I am really hoping they do something different than the standard Zone archetypes. The new footage from the Nintendo show looked alright but a bit uncertain. Looked like standard archetypes we've seen before. That weird digital-looking Zone seems quite fresh, though.

 

All renders are surprisingly high-quality, and I really wish these were the actual in-game models

But it feels kind of weird in a "but why?" way. I feel like a "space gun" (like the Egg Robos use) should be fine enough to get the point across.

 

I honestly don't know what's wrong with the cork gun he used in Fighters, Mania and the comics. Maybe the focus on the Marvellous Queen is to bring Fang back to his Triple Trouble routes, where that was all he used? If so, I don't think it's a great idea - makes him just another Eggman boss with a different sprite, functionally speaking, whereas in Mania he was much smaller and more agile than the standard Eggman mech.

 

I feel that his cork gun may come back if there's a battle with him, as I doubt he needs it 24/7, in most contexts we've seen him in here, he's usually with Trip, so he may not need a gun if he's not flying solo as well.

 

If Fang needs a pop gun then let Shadow have his MP5

 

didn't Fang have his gun in Sonic Mania? I always thought a pop-gun was so unambiguously cartoonish that it wouldn't cause much problems but ah well, not a big loss I guess

 

Eggman being an arms dealer would solve a lot of the financial mysteries in the franchise. I'm sure we're all dying to know how he finances these world conquests.

 

Something tells me that the fact they used Tee Lopes' tune for the second trailer, combined with the fact it is the last song that plays in the Iizuka / Ohshima overview from yesterday as the logo appears on screen and the video ends, means that's probably gonna be the game's title theme.

 

Which is why he's now Fang the Hunter!

 

Like a bounty hunter, yes? Yeah Fang's weird without a gun. I don't love the pop gun myself but it's pretty much his defining gimmick. It kinda seems like them desperately trying to avoid "ow the edge" backlash which would be dumb since Mania already went there but at least it'll be interesting to see what else they come up with for him. And if he's playable maybe they just didn't want to come up with gunplay mechanics.

 

Mania was made primarily for classic fans. Superstars is made for everyone.
