ShackNews also mentions that co-op is in split-screen as well.

Yep, but I still think it’s rude. DLC is always a possibility, but if the game isn’t even out yet, why imply the game is incomplete or needs any more?

Anyway, it makes sense wny that
    question is dodge-worthy.

    THANK YOU JESUS

Been stuck in a mind palace the past couple days about how they'd even design the game around a shared camera

It was a legitimate question and he pointed out current industry trends while phrasing his question. Nothing rude about it.
I wonder if the Switch version has anything funky with multiplayer. That would be neat.

Welp, that all but confirms it. Whatever issues this game has, I'm at least happy we've got confirmation this won't be another one-off experiment. I'm glad 2D Sonic is going to be its own thing, and not just a derivative of 3D Sonic.

Also, the Amy costume is technically DLC, so I'm sure there will be more, even if it's just more skins. I think Iizuka is just being dodgy because he doesn't wanna spoil whatever they have planned, DLC is an industry standard.

If 2D and 3D co-exist then that's a good thing. I hope we can transcend the classic and modern timeliness split though. Classic Shadow, Rouge, or even Omega would be fun. Seems silly not to include fan favourite characters. Even Advance understood this concept. I think think we can keep the classic aesthetic while still shifting away from the classic and modern strict brand split.

I think the split will ever exist as a time frame, with Classic being the past and Modern being the present/future. So the aesthetics are still going to be what defines that, and thus we couldn't have a Classic Shadow.

As cool as "Classic Shadow" would be...

Design-wise: in-universe he seems to have been "born" with a "modern" design?
Plot-wise: he's in stasis during the entire "Classic" era

That doesn't mean you couldn't just throw Shadow in, either with his normal design, or with a didn't-happen "Classic" version of him, and have that not tie to the plot at all. But I think they do want to keep these two sub-franchises as fully distinct and separate now. They may not be "different dimensions", or "different timelines", in-universe anymore, but they might as well be.

Here's something neat I noticed about Amy's running animation. Sonic and Knuckles have the classic wheel o' feet, visible at all times. You can always see their legs and feet.

Amy does something different: her feet completely vanish.

In Amy's running animation, her leg/foot grows into existence, swings backwards, and then shrinks out of existence to reappear at the front. Her feet are never seen moving forwards; only backwards. At times, like the above image, she only has one foot visible at all! This combined with her arms flailing around gives the animation a messy and chaotic feel, like she's struggling to keep up. It gives a totally different vibe than the running animations of the other characters.

If Shadow appeared in a classic game he’d have a classic design because that’s the art style of the classic era, regardless of him being shown in his modern design 50 years ago. The characters didn’t physically mutate into modern designs in-universe when they got older, the art style is just to represent each era.

Now I want to see modern Amy with her classic outfit as a Frontiers mod...

(For those curious, here's a decent fan render of what it could look like)

On the topic of characters who could be added as dlc: are the chaotix still modern exclusive characters? I know the japanese Sonic twitter posted art acknowledging the events of Knuckles Chaotix (https://xcancel.com/sonicofficialjp/status/1659710529634725888?s=46&t=S0_YkQ8TRA2Bk54XvKgWfw)but it didn’t show classic Vector, Espio or Charmy. When I think of “classic sonic co-op”, the chaotix crew come to mind so they’d be a great option for superstars dlc.

Now this may be controversial, but when I saw the co-op footage in the trailer my mind immediately flashed to images of Sonic running missions with the freedom fighters. Due to the co-operative nature of Sonic’s dynamic with the freedom fighters I think they’d be a great fit for superstars co-op. Tbc I know the freedom fighter being DLC characters is extremely unlikely… BUT Ohshima does likes SATAM (https://xcancel.com/satamhistorian/status/1563755430907609088?s=46&t=S0_YkQ8TRA2Bk54XvKgWfw). Additionally, art by Spaz (https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/s...chives1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20180811054142) and Tyson Hesse (https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/s...XcAANUT.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170123171554) shows that the freedom fighters can be redesigned to fit into the classic SegaSonic aesthetic.
