Yeah a few of the "mini bosses" are pains in the ass. There are a couple in the next island that I think are even worse than the squid one.

You can catch a Chopper, from Green Hill Zone! Damn this game is great. Having so much fun with it so far. For me, this is probably the most fun 3D Sonic game since Unleashed. (To me anyway, please don't start arguing over that statement...)

Ya it’s up there for me too. I mean I haven’t beaten it yet but it’s giving Generations a surprising run for its money.

Hey so you have to use one of the bird enemies to fly all the way over there, hit the side of the mountain and boost up it. There is no other way to get there afaik aside from an underground cavern which I only found after I had already gotten to it.

Also are there multiple endings? I never heard Vandalize play during the credits and they advertised that heavily. For reference I played on hard mode.

Vandalize only plays in Normal Mode for some reason.

Is it just me or do some of the cyberspace stages have completely different behavior for Sonic? There doesn't seem to be any consistency.

For example, there's a level in World 2 that is uses the Sky Rail layout from SA2. Sonic controls incredibly sluggish compared to the sandbox mode. He slides all over the place, his jump is hard to steer and boosting in the air can sometimes be a death sentence as you're sent spiraling in a different direction. But then he controls completely different with tight movement comparable to the sandbox mode in the other 3D cyberspace levels.

    Just wondering if I'm crazy.

I'd say frontiers is a good base for a sequel or two, most games are a little rough when they try something new and then the sequels polish them up (and maybe ruin them with bad decisions)

The Titan bosses are some of the worst things I've ever seen out of this series. Truly abysmal to play in every sense. A messy camera that refuses to turn around and gets stuck on the boss's geometry, incredibly clunky controls, horrible tells for when attacks or projectiles are coming (which just encourages you to hold parry forever until it's time to attack), obnoxious QTEs, Super Sonic frequently clipping through both the Titans and stage geometry, the screamo music..

This is AWFUL lmao. Holy shit.

I have felt my thoughts on this game drop from "this is a good baseline for a future game" to "this is alright but there's a lot of problems" to "this game needed a second or third pass" to "I hate everything about this" in a span of eight hours. I... ai ai ai.

The controls are totally different from the open world. You're not crazy, but Sonic Team is for making this decision.

  10. The screamo music is the best part tho.

I've accepted no one's gonna agree with me on it. I just don't like the genre much, and I REALLY don't like it in Sonic. lol It's all a matter of taste.

Despite my disdain with them, it's the least of my problems with those battles anyways.

  13. They're probably the best boss fights in the series tbh...which yea, isn't saying much.

But if you can't do a well designed boss fight, just focus on the spectacle. Its an approach I can understand.

They're the hard opposite to me. Absolutely not what I want out of Sonic at best, incredibly clunky and at times broken at worst. There was moments with the first titan where the camera was getting caught on his arm and I couldn't see Sonic at all, and for the second one Super Sonic is just clipping through world geometry and the boss itself trying to keep up with the spline he's on. And then right after I failed a poorly communicated QTE (lol) my game crashed, which was awesome. Good.

I think this game is the most out-of-sync I've ever been with other fans and this franchise. I really don't like this game. lmao

I've actually come around on the Super Sonic fights after shitting on them a couple of pages back. Cool that they let you keep your techniques.

And being able to cyloop is satisfying while being Super or use the quick cyloop.

I'm done, and Hard Mode Final Boss is down on the second try. All stats maxed thanks to Big's fishing, every map 100% completed with side stories, only things I didn't clear out were every Cyberspace stage and all the memories per map. And achievements don't give a damn if you do or don't anyway.

Enjoyed the moment to moment gameplay and traversal at max speed generally felt like Sonic's Spider-Man moment to me for how fun it can be, but Sonic Team still suck at really trying to be in-depth in any way and Morio Kishimoto should probably stop directing Sonic games and plots. I liked most of the character interactions and story that Flynn handled, I didn't even mind the excess of references because hey, this is effectively an Anniversary Game, so whatever, but Kishimoto just cannot write endings worth a damn and it severely underplayed literally everything that happened. Yet again.

It kind of made it feel like this entire game is just a $60 prototype, and while I had some fun, I also had frustrations and ultimately really dislike their attempts at subsidizing Boost stage layouts into the open zones that constantly hijack your controls and camera at every waking moment that isn't an empty expanse. This was a setup game to try to clear the slate and get ready for new stuff, and not a lot else.

.. also not a fan of Sonic Team's decisions of the origins of the Chaos Emeralds, either. And it's such a damn negligible footnote without the side stories, nor does it answer anything about the Master Emerald.

Same as the above, 100% on Hard Mode complete.

I mean, the origin wasn't really covered as far as I can see?

The Ancients had them on their world first and used them to flee, and the Master Emerald drew them in. I know it says they were native to their world, but at the same time the Master Emerald was on Earth, so I don't think they're actually native as much as landed on their planet one day long, long before them...

    Did I miss something otherwise?

I'm not saying I missed something or it went unexplained, I'm saying it barely affects anything and the characters don't even talk about it without the Side Story scenes, which are too short to really do much with anyway. And that the Master Emerald counteracting the Chaos Emeralds still just sort of exists without any explanation of its own, which has a boatload of potential implications but.. well, that was that, the game moves on without explaining anything else.

That and I'm just not fond of the general origin at all. I'm tired of space stuff, that was Colors' entire shtick and now it feels like everything but the Master Emerald is effectively sci-fi alien space technology instead of any of the mysticism it used to be. They did in almost all of the wizard. Which only makes Dark/Light Gaia even weirder since it's really obvious the whole "ancient temples that empower Light Gaia, and the Chaos Emeralds splitting the planet and awakening Dark Gaia" were not made in mind with this new revelation.

No, sorry, I'm asking if I myself have missed something, since I don't see anything about the Chaos Emerald origins, just the story of how they ended up on Earth. Which, it was either something brought them here, or they all landed on Earth together one day.

This way at least explains how the Black Arms know of their existence...

Fair enough, I think it just pretty much expects you to roll with, "The Ancients created them," and not ask any further questions.
