Sonic 1 to get the 3DS treatment.
07 May 2013 - 09:11 PM
Just announced for the 3DS eShop, but only for Japan at the moment.
I'm hoping this reaches the US. Until then, we got Taxman's remake coming out soon. -
Shenmue 3 might be funded through Kickstarter
03 March 2013 - 03:17 PM
Yu Suzuki wants "Shenmue 3" to become a reality, and funding it through Kickstarter might make it happen.
Quote
Ever wish you could get your hands on a third entry into the Shenmue franchise? Well, you might just be in luck. A tweet published by Sebstian-Abdelhamid claims that legendary game developer Yu Suzuki wants to crowdsource Shenmue 3. Sebastian works in French TV and is part of the Monaco Anime Game Show, so his credentials speak for themselves.
The tweet is published in French – as expected – but reads, “Yu Suzuki just said that he is thinking about a Kickstarter to fund the Shenmue 3 developement ! #MAGS”

Given the success of other Kickstarters such as Wasteland 2 by inXile Entertainment and Double Fine's adventure title, we're betting that if this does happen, it will more than likely be the largest success in video game crowdsourcing yet. Fans have been awaiting a return to the open-world of Shenmue since the series’ second iteration in 2001. This was when the first Lord of the Rings movie came out, for reference. Feel old yet?
Perhaps the greatest sacrilege that was made can be found in the fact that Shenmue was supposed to be a trilogy. While circumstances surrounding the cancellation of development are unclear, many believe that SEGA didn't want to or couldn't fund its development. The Dreamcast's failing may have contributed to this sort of thinking, but that is simply speculation.
We're extremely excited to hear about anything related to Shenmue. The series is long due for a conclusion, and given the time in between iterations, maybe Suzuki has different plans for the franchise.
So... Do you guys think it'll actually happen? Personally, I think it will. I mean, if TWO games originating here on Retro can get successfully backed (Freedom Planet and The 90s Arcade Racer), then I think Shenmue 3 can get backed too. -
Sega Genesis Cordless Elite
21 January 2013 - 10:46 AM
So while looking around on eBay today, I stumbled across This auction for something called the "Cordless Elite" for Sega Genesis, which is essentially just a wireless controller for the system. Only problem was that this was never released, and only this mockup exists for it. That and this magazine scan for it:

So... Is this worthy enough to get a page on SegaRetro? Just wonderin'. -

Sega just revealed this on their Twitter account.

Yeah, I dunno. This was JUST announced. No screenshots, no trailer, just... artwork! And that's it! Discuss... I think? -
Nintendo Entertainment System Serial Numbers?
15 April 2012 - 07:31 PM
Hey Retro. I need some help in identifying my two NES system's serial numbers. The only reason I ask is because I want to know if they're actually worth any money. If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it.
Anyways, I have two NES systems, one owned by my mom and the other owned by my dad. My dad's NES' Serial Number is N4913238. This one came bundled with the Super Mario Bros + Duck Hunt multicart and the Grey Zapper, plus the texture of the system is plastic-like and very smooth. My mom's NES' Serial Number is N10025248, but here the texture is more rougher than my dad's NES (And it's a more darker grey color), plus she didn't have the Mario + Duck Hunt multicart, nor the Zapper. However she did recall owning the ROB, but she sold it to buy more NES games. This leads me to think that I have one of the original NYC Deluxe Test models in my possession, despite not having ROB in tow. Can anyone help me out in figuring out if that's the case? I would appreciate it!
