Mario and Sonic Rio 2016
31 May 2015 - 05:54 AM
Announced in the Japanese Nintendo Direct today.
New characters Rouge, Zazz, Jet, Diddy and Nabbit and likely at least one more Mario character. Other than that it's the exact same game you've played four times before.
Who cares, right? -
So That Poll That Resulted in ShTH...
28 October 2012 - 03:18 PM
I've been playing a lot of ShTH lately. God knows why, it's a truly horrible game. But it has got me thinking. Does anyone else remember that poll SEGA ran in 2004 or 2005 before the game was announced? It was quite a big thing, asking the fans directly what they wanted the next Sonic game to be after Heroes. And it was specifically focused around characters other that Sonic himself. I think it was Amy, Knuckles, Tails and, obviously, Shadow. Back at the time I voted for Knuckles to star in his own game with a story about the echidnas or the Master Emerald. Something along those lines.
I'm having a fair bit of difficulty finding any info surround the vote however. Did anyone ever document all the potential answers? It was a closed poll so we don't know how the results really went for sure beyond the fact that Shadow won. It would just be really interesting to look it because it was such cut and dry market research that resulted in one of the biggest stains on the franchises history.
And just for fun, who did you vote for? Did anyone here want a dark game starring Shadow back then? -
New Sonic Chess Magazine
13 March 2011 - 04:00 PM
Sonic Chess Collection
So a new Sonic Chess set is being released over here, only it's part of a magazine set and you get one piece with every issue. It'll retail for £7 per fortnight (the first two weeks are cheaper) and will go for 64 weeks, so that's £216 spread out over two and a half years. The magazine includes details about the piece you get, a character profile, chess academy (a tutorial basically) and cuts from the Archie comics.
They're not the nicest pieces ever, but they certainly make an interesting set with all the obscure and unusual chao that make up the hero pawns. And the badniks making up the dark pawns is really nice too.
And this is presumably the proposed set, pumpkin chao and Jaws included:
Dark Side
King- Eggman
Queen- Rouge
Bishops- Egg Pawn x2
Knights- Shadow x2
Rooks- Metal Sonic x2
Pawns- Chopper, Jaws, Buzzer, Crawl, Newtron, Shellcracker, Motobug, Burrobot
Hero Side
King- Super Sonic
Queen- Amy
Bishops- Tails x2
Knights- Sonic x2
Rooks- Knuckles x2
Pawns- Chaos, Egg Chao, Swim Chao, Power Chao, Fly Chao, Fly/Power Chao, Pumpkin Chao, Omochao
(new Super Sonic render on there, too)
Someone who's got the first issue over at the Bumbleking forums took a couple of pics: 1, 2 -
Wii VGA Cables
30 October 2010 - 05:12 PM
My TV is annoying. It's got full 1080p HD capabilities with HDMI and VGA ports, but no component cable ports. And the other problem is that Nintendo don't make any official Wii VGA cables I often see things like this floating around. A few videos on Youtube show that the video cuts out at odd times, like whenever you kill someone on No More Heroes or go back to the main menu from the channel start up screen, but they sometimes seem fine. Is it worth buying one or are they generally crap? Or is there another alternative? -
Did I just buy a pirated Mega Collection Plus at Morrisons?
13 October 2009 - 12:46 PM
It was my munch break today and so I decided to head down to Morrisons. And I was just browsing about the electronics section, saw MC+ for 4 quid and thought I may as well buy it. So when I get home and want to install it, something doesn't seem right. First off there's no manual and instead of getting an auto-run asking me to install the game, I get this:
Just an RAR and that single "checksum.txt" (which contains only 16D50A30F03D61B6733178F19CFFB692). Confused, I extract the RAR and get this:
What's a UDF file btw? I couldn't open it directly, and tried mounting it with DAEMON which actually worked and everything went smoothly from there. But you know I was still thinking that all this was certainly unusual. Not everybody will have the tools to get so far as extract the RAR, yet alone mount the image. Since when do PC games come like this? Installation finished and I tried to run the game. What do I get? The game asks me for the DVD.
Now I want to ask you smart people, is this even a real copy of the game? Nothing about it is really convincing me. And I threw away the reciept without thinking about it. (But it's only £3.99, so I'll gladly pick up another copy if you think this a scam and can somehow be traced).
Pictures of the DVD/Case for reference. I noticed the CD is totally different to the one shown on the Wiki, but the Wiki only has pictures of the console CDs.

Just to note- the PEGI rating is of the new kind.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't notice the poor quality of the pictures. If you want to see better ones then let me know.
EDIT2: Avanquest published this or something apparently. Their name is on the back cover, and this is the boxart on their site:
