The "new friends" could be the Guardians mentioned in that supposed leak. In other words, they're kind of like a one shot story element like the Wisps. It's not like they're making an Original the Character. -

Oh, I'm sure it will be a platformer. There could be an entire overhaul of how Sonic handles, though. That's what I'm getting at. They still have quite a few different ways to make a good Sonic game. -

For all we know, it could play entirely different from any of those games. This is the first next generation era Sonic game. -
