  1. In Topic: Level backgrounds

What I did to put the Death Egg background into Mystic Cave was take 5 or 6 (don't remember how many different tiles are in the DEZ background) tiles that were junks (messed up graphics in SonEd) and replaced those with the DEZ tiles I needed manually (took a while but I got it). Then I simply changed the deformation index for MCZ to point to the one for DEZ. It looked so-so but only because that background doesn't go with the level. The effect worked perfectly.

I don't like discussions about what they can do when there is no proof they can at all.

I agree but I just found that kinda weird that a fan could do what a company couldn't (in theory).

I think the point that Muffin was trying to make is that if a fan (or group of fans) can emulate the Sega CD, you would think that the company that MADE the system would be able to do the same.

Then something that looked like an abstract buzzbomber and distorted Robotnik/Eggman appeared...then you fall underwater. Or something.

Yeah, that's pretty much right. I always thought that Metal Sonic attacked you (in the S2 one this is) and he was fairly easy to jump over but once in a while you would fall into the water for no reason. Pointless and only good for wasting time when it is impossible to do anything (and I do mean ANYTHING) else. So even if it was possible to emulate, or if you wanted to go through the trouble of simulating it, don't even bother. It's just a waste of time.
