Forgotten Ruin Zone development thread
13 May 2013 - 05:57 PM
Forgotten Ruin Zone is a level made in the Unreal Development Kit, using the codebase from Xaklse's SGDK. I started working on this in January, learning about UDK as I go and I'm ready to show it off properly (and stop shitting up the General Progress thread
)
Obviously, everything is subject to change. It is far from finished, and unfortunatly a couple of bugs can be seen in the videos. Also, I'v been having sound problems within UDK, so some things don't have sounds applied (or are just placeholder) but they will be rectified soon.
There will also be a camera system depending on your input. If you play with a mouse and keyboard, the camera will be 'free' as you can see in the videos. However, if you opt to use a pad, there will be more focused cameras, like in traditional Sonic games. I feel this is a good compromise for those that prefer the standard style, and those that would prefer complete control. Now, without further delay, some footage!

First, apologies for the bad audio quality in the videos. My internet connection is pretty naff, so I had to lower the quality. Yes, the majority of the assets are stock UDK stuff. I'm learning UDK as I go, and I can't create models myself or create materials (although if I do another SGDK project after this, I would learn these skills). Level design is a huge interest to me, so that is what I am focusing on.
Again, I'd like to emphasise this is very WIP. I can't wait to see what you guys think of it!

Fusion / ZNES full screen error
21 July 2012 - 04:30 PM
Just recently I'v realised that Kega Fusion and ZNES do not function under fullscreeen mode. My visual settings are normally 5760x1080 on an Nvidia 590GTX and I have to disable the surround settings (as in, turn off two monitors via the control panel) to get emulation running on fullscreen without a crash. But now, even when doing that, as soon as I enter fullscreen, the program crashes. The latest drivers are installed. I haven't used either emulator in such a long time I don't remember which driver version I had, and even then, I would prefer not to rollback. I have tried lowering the refresh rate from 120hz to 60hz, lowering the colour depth, trying different monitors and reinstalling Fusion. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? -
Sonic 1 Alt
23 February 2010 - 10:33 AM
Please check page 4 for full release download link.
Hello everyone. Since August 2009 I have been working on a small hack of Sonic 1 in my spare time. It's extremely simple - just new layouts. After some real life stuff and also lacking the initial interest I had in the hack, I am going to release what I have worked on early. I did plan to get one more act in before releasing a demo/beta/whatever but I want to see if you guys think it is worth me continuing. If people show interest I may continue working on it. I just started it to kill boredom but now I don't even have the time to work on it!
Sonic 1 Alt
Features
New layouts for Green Hill Zone, Marble Zone, and Spring Yard Zone Acts 1 and 2.
New Palletes for the modified zones.
Very minor ASM from tutorials - 'Press Start Fix', Speed Cap removed, different SEGA screen, 'Ell Presents'
Spindash NOT added. This was a conscious decision.
Spikebug NOT removed. Also a conscious decision.
In the layouts theres a few hidden goodies scattered around, so don't be afraid to explore a little. Also, 'bouncing' on badniks or other objects can sometimes save time or lead to shortcuts!
Screenshots

Bugs
There is an uncommon bug where objects are destroyed before you arrive, like monitors. Sometimes rings and badniks aren't there. So far this only happens in Marble Zone.

If there is anyone else I have missed (I think there is a couple) let me know and I shall edit it!
I'd be intrested to see what you guys think, so let me know! It probably isn't everyones cup of tea, but I can't please everyone
!

Joyride Studios Figures
17 December 2009 - 06:45 AM
Today I decided to search for a place to buy the Nod Flame Tank and GDI Mammoth Tank models, that Joyride used to produce. Of course, I can't find them anywhere, so I'l just have to wait until EA makes newer and easier to purchase models. However, through my travels, I found this on a CnC Website. Quite surprised to see a figure of Sonic and Shadow (with the SA2B logo on the packets), as well as a figure of Beat. While the Sonic and Shadow ones look a little out of proportion, and the Sonic's face looks ugly, the others look fantastic, like Beat, Luigi and Agent Tanya.
Does anybody own any of Joyride Studios' figures, specifically the CnC ones? Because I really would like a Stealth Tank :P -
Why do you like Sonic the Hedgehog?
20 April 2009 - 03:03 PM
When you first saw Sonic, or first played Sonic, was there a particular reason that you liked it? Or a reason you still play the games you played so long ago today?
I can tell you I guess it's a mix of the character and the games. What I mean is, Sonic, as a character, is a cocky, arrogant hero with absolute style. And needless to say, the games are fantastic. That personality just works with Sonic, and I practically grew up on AOSTH, STC and the games, so a mixture of gaming nostalgia and also loving the character has kept me coming back for more.
What about you?
