  1. In Topic: Sonic-16 recreation?

Since there was barely anything in the proof-of-concept pitch video other than a Sonic-themed beat-'em-up that just happened to be based off of a cartoon, I would say 'no', but that is because there was so little presented in the concept. I mean, if we had more documentation to go on, like Sonic Mars or some of the other early Sonic X-treme concepts, it could work out, but it would need a lot more polish.
  2. In Topic: Archie Sonic Comic Megathread

I'm kind of starting to hate the direction the comic is going in. It isn't the plot, the plot is still the best it has been for awhile now, but how they decide to use the Genesis thing to act as a reset button for every time they want to make a small change to the world around them, and don't want to dedicate any time to build up to those changes... It is almost like they are sitting in the office and thinking "Well, we wrote ourselves into a corner, let's hit the universal reset button and bring it back to about a few steps ago" or even " We want to redesign the characters, let's hit the universal reset button so we don't have to really explain ourselves and say the plot device did it".

Sure, it isn't like that completely BS story they did to explain how Sonic and Amy got their modern designs (While I might point out at the same time they just updated everyone else silently and without any explanation at all).

I'm all for consistency within the comic's art style, but I feel it could have been done better. Heck, I lived through that phase of the comic where the style changed from issue to issue, and while I would not like that to happen again, It would give us fans something to poke fun at again.
  3. In Topic: Squirrel King - Greatest Game or Best Game?

    27 February 2013 - 03:19 AM

From what I know, It looks like a pirate port of that Chip n' Dale game that was on the NES. Another interesting tidbit is that Squirrel King is presumably the game the pirates hacked into that Super Mario Bros/World pirate.
  4. In Topic: Just remembered why Sonic 1 is my least favorite of the Genesis Four

    13 February 2013 - 02:47 AM

It is quirks like these that make Sonic 1 less of a favorite of mine too, but I have noticed when playing hacks that add Spindash, or make the speed cap behave more like Sonic 3's I find that it is now broken. The special stage isn't really there for anything but an additional bonus in Sonic 1 because it doesn't really reward you other than the extra points/lives/continues you may rack up as you get to the Emerald in the middle, and all that does is change the ending ever so slightly. But then again, the reason why this is like this is because it was the first in a line of "experiments" trying to prove that this kind of fast-paced game can work. By the time both sequels came out, the refined the formula to change how things worked to give you a better experience.

I felt it was an okay attempt, and it falls apart due to the lack of consistent tone. I personally liked it as one of those "Bad B-movies that are still enjoyable" kinda way, and I must admit it would make good material for a 'Mystery Science Theatre 3000' kind of parody.
