Every year since 2011, I've spent June 23rd marathoning Sonic games. Last year, I streamed it for the first time, with hilarious technical difficulties (as the end of the above video shows). This year, I'm doing it again, and incorporating a fundraising drive for TGC.

I'll be playing: Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3 & Knuckles, 4 (Episodes I and II), Adventure, Adventure 2, certain levels in '06 where I can avoid other characters, Unleashed (daytime), Colors (main stages only), Lost World (ditto), and ending with Generations. This may take a few days, or I might get through it all in one...

The stretch goals are listed in the video, as well as the description. All proceeds will go directly back into improving the channel. Additionally, each game will have "bonus goals" associated with it. I've also got some Skype call-in guests lined up, including the marvelous gent who makes those Sonic Spitball videos, ShayMay, and our own Covarr. I believe the first time the image was used was when SNK pulled the Neo Geo Pocket Color from the US. That's the version I'd like to find, and if anyone knows what the URL was, I'd ideally like to look it up on archive.org.

I've seen the image many times over the years. I think it was edited and used when... maybe, Area 51 shut down? I've run all the usual Google Image searches I can think of, and tried to find what the URL might have been via old news archives. Any help tracking it down would be awesome.

I'll never forget seeing the first pictures of Sonic Adventure, playing it at a demo kiosk at Toys R Us in the Summer of '99, the crazy anticipation and hype all through the year, and finally unwrapping it for Christmas. I'd probably go so far as to call it my favorite game console ever. It may not be the best in terms of the games, but it's certainly the one I have the most affection for.

Fifteen years doesn't seem possible. Happy birthday to the Dreamcast, the console that might not have been able to save Sega's hardware division, but certainly will be remembered as the groundbreaking, risk-taking and altogether awesome machine it was.

I'm planning on putting up a little PSO gameplay video later today, and I might do some streaming later on today to celebrate. I just wish more servers were up, I could still do dial-up, and/or BBA adapters won't so expensive. I'd challenge you all to Sega Swirl.
