RAGE 2011: Vector? I Hardly Know 'Er
19 September 2011 - 01:23 PM
Yeah, this SAGE needs something. Something involving pie.
RAGE is the "Really Amateur Games Expo" and "iz teh bestest phangayme shocaze in teh wurld" and is SAGE's most popular contest. It celebrates the terrible games that come through this forum every year and the lows of the Sonic fandom, like fanfiction, fancharacters and little kids who think that edgy storylines and terrible gameplay are the best thing to happen to the old blue fuck. Contestants each year are encouraged to make a horrible game on purpose. The game which is considered the worst will be declared the winner by forum poll this weekend during the annual "SAGE Hangover."
History:
RAGE 2007 - RAGE 2008 - RAGE 2009 - RAGE 2010
Somebody made a Retro Wiki article about RAGE. Da fuck?
Last year, the requirement was that you had to put your game in "a post-apocalyptic setting." Since this year's SAGE theme is all about Eggman, RAGE is all about a character as well. This year, your RAGE game has to include Vector the Crocodile as a key part of your game's story. He can either be playable or an NPC. He has to influence the story in a significant way. Examples include him being the main, playable character or the catalyst for some stupid plot twist.
Your shitty games can be made in any medium (KnP, MMF, GM, ROM hack, etc), last any amount of length and must be submitted by the deadline.
RAGE games are due Saturday, September 24th by 11 PM EST
Submit them to bradflick AT sonicstadium DOT org.
Also, feel free to make a post linking to your game here in this thread if you finish early.
Please ask questions in this thread. Get to sucking.

Register for "Sonic Boom," the first U.S. Community Event
12 May 2011 - 03:50 PM
From Sonic Retro's front page:
QUOTEAfter years of wanting a Sonic community event here in the United States, we're finally getting one with “Sonic Boom,” special treat for those in town during the E3 Expo in Los Angeles on the night of Wednesday, June 8th. We will be hanging out, playing some Sonic Generations and celebrating Sonic's 20th anniversary. Best of all: this event is absolutely free.
Sonic Retro, in cooperation with Sonic Stadium and SEGA of America, have 2,000 seats to fill and we need our dedicated forum members to pack the house! This event will be big, so you're going to need to reserve a spot. SEGA is currently letting 500 people RSVP to the event, but both Retro and Stadium have a specific allotment of passes, too, ensuring that everybody has a chance to go.
How can you go as a member of Sonic Retro? Just e-mail me at slingerland AT sonicretro DOT org and you will get a link to sign up through us. It's that simple!
This event will be very exciting. Not only will you be able to play Sonic Generations without having to go to E3, but many recognizable community members will be in attendance! At this time, Chimpo, Gene and myself will be there, along with Jason and Nuckles87 from Sonic Stadium, but we will have some international flair with Dreadknux, T-Bird and The Taxman in the building!
So, come on, America! We've got community members from all over the world coming to this party. You don't want to miss out! Tickets have only been available for a few minutes and they are going fast.
Event details from SEGA of America:

Top 5 Biggest Assholes in Sonic Games
28 January 2010 - 08:30 PM
The Sonic Show Presents: The Top 5 Biggest Assholes
QUOTEWe counted down the top 5 winter levels for Christmas, but now... we're looking at the most frustrating levels, badniks, and objects that can be deemed "the biggest asshole ever." Who will win?
I get a nice li'l sumthin' sumthin' for making videos for The Sonic Show (shit, I've been doing it forever). It's also good practice for motion graphics.
I hope you guys enjoy it. Feel free to leave comments to help improve the top 5 series (I.e. "make it less ScrewAttack-y") or my videos in general. Or, you can talk about your own personal assholes in Sonic games. I don't give a shit. :v
(You don't have to tell me to light my green screen better though. I fired the fucker that said he'd do it well but then did a horrible job. Lol.) -
Sonic Nexus '08 Demo
02 September 2008 - 05:51 PM
Sonic Nexus 2008 Demo

http://nexus.hrook.net
So, yeah, this demo debuts the brand new Retro-Sonic engine and RSDK. That's really about it. It has taken all summer, but now we have a solid foundation with which to make more levels, gimmicks, bosses, etc. If you were anticipating it in any form, I am truly sorry for this lengthy, 2-week delay. It's just the nature of the beast, as I prefer not to release a luke-warm project.
The game is for Windows and Mac. The Windows version is currently available and the Mac edition will be out the door shortly. If you only have a Mac, again, sorry for more wait. It's coming, though.
Controls- Arrow Keys = move

A few things to note:- There are a few layer issues that people people have been encountering. Some I have been able to find and neutralize, but others, I have yet to replicate. We will be striving for finding them all next time around.
- One person encountered an "instant stop" on the tail end of the corkscrews.
- More to come as we find them. I love public demos...the mass beta test!
- If you lose your parachute, it regenerates in a quick second, so don't freak out if you lose it.
- The parabolic zipline gimmick in act 2 uses placeholder graphics, so I don't need to be reminded. :P
- There are a few instances of iffy badnik placement. I know where they are.
I hope that you guys here enjoy it. C&C is much appreciated and highly encouraged. - Arrow Keys = move
