Isn't that title screen shown at the end of the game in the final?

I have an actual Saturn and a Gamebridge, I should be able to capture videos and screenshots when the R proto is done downloading for me.

EDIT: Ok, got all the recording stuff working (I couldn't do it with my Gamebridge), gonna burn the CD now.

I don't remember it being shown, but it was used for the concept box art for Sonic R and was also included on the pamphlet packaged with practically every sega saturn game in 1997.

This game works properly in SSF, including sound.

Is the control this bad in the final release? I haven't played the complete version in ages.

Control seems comparable to the final. Don't notice too much different in the first course - a couple different textures on the ground perhaps but not much else.

Could you please take screenshots without that awful scanlines effect?

No need to get rude - it by default has the scanlines and I was going for speed when posting, not particularly quality (yet).

I'll make a video sometime tonight.

I said "please", is that rude?

Thanks for the screenshots.

I got a 15 minute video of me going though Grand Prix mode (well, what I could have it. "Factory" is incomplete and you're stuck on the first lap forever, they don't even have the music for it). I'll upload it in a bit.

EDIT: Uploading now, an hour and ten minutes to go...

What's the current best Saturn emulator? SSF?

From what I can see, this was essentially the same version used for the October '97 coverage of Sonic R for the SEGA Saturn Magazine - the same levels are shown [Ruins was shown the month after] as well as the 2 player mode with worse FOV. The main difference between the coverage version and this version is that the Magazine pics had no mention of Sonic Tokens to collect.

I was able to find 7 of the 9 tokens in Resort Island. Tokens also seem to show up in the 2 player mode, but are uncollectable.
