I'm sure someone told me what it was, but I can't for the life of me remember who or what =(

Hez sent me the same file, but it came from the original source, with various other similar-sounding mp3 files, including a cover of Green Hill Zone and a Streets of Rage tune.

The original filename was "s_opll[1].mp3"

You wouldn't happen to still have that vgz, would you? I'm interested in hearing it. Do you happen to know if the clip I provided was the full version of the song?

[20:49] Sonicguyreturns: OF COURSE!
[20:49] Tweaker: s_opll = sample_opll = sample music for the MSX YM2413 + PSG
[20:49] Sonicguyreturns: The original filename.
[20:49] Sonicguyreturns: So, it's a sample tune?
[20:49] Tweaker: apparently

Mystery solved? Not quite. This actually raises some more questions. Where does it come from? The actual chip? Devkit? Does anyone know? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I can name 3 of those songs.

s_bare.mp3 ; Streets of Rage
s_sonic.mp3 ; Sonic 1 GHZ (duh >.>)
s_mystic.mp3 ; A level of Zero Wing

So, an assumption here, would this perhaps be from some form of game or something that had a compilation of the 5 and had a little audio track and demo video ... perhaps? Just a speculation, not like I have much knowledge to be able to do any investigations or anything.

Why did you rename it to Sonic.mp3, though? That wasn't the Sonic-related tune...

s_sonic.mp3 sounds like a version of GHZ using the Wonder Boy III drums, wierd.

That's because those are the built-in drums to the YM2413 (aka the OPLL), the chip used in the Japanese Mark III (Sega Master System).

So, can we safely assume this is something unofficial?

Also, thanks Hez for the uploads.

I'd think rather than "unofficial" it's more "internal testing", mayhaps?

That's exactly what it is... but it doesn't seem to be what the mystery song in question is running on.

But... why must this be anything official? It could have been made for any reason by anybody in the world. Somebody trying to simulate his favorite videogame songs or anything.
