But then, the whole franchise hasn't gone off the deep end yet, so I guess we're still safe...for now.

Hopefully I can try this out sometime so I can pass complete judgement on it.

Uhh... yeah... wanna explain how Shadow the Hedgehog's game didn't officially send it off the deep end, eh?
And... uhhh... was it really that far in the shallow end in the first place? *Points at SonicCD*
At times I wonder if we hallucinated that there was sanity in the series. The only noticable flaw is a buildup of cannon-fodder characters and no cannons.
Anyway, like most mobile things, I'll probably play this in the year 2022 in 'Sega Ultimate Sonic Museum 22x+50XTREME.'

You kidding?
Look at that level art! It's plain and boring. No effort or Sonic style put into it at all. Even the gameplay looks boring and repetitive.

It's Sonic Advance style, for one.
Secondly, it's not an ugly set of graphics, it's just dull.

No. Even Sonic Advance had some effort put into it. It was professional. This, however, looks like it was done in five minutes. The only thing that IS Advance style is the sprites, which were obviously taken from Sonic Advance anyway.
